About Mrs. Powder Puff

Whoopsey!

April 20th, 2009 @ 9:35 am by Mrs. Powder Puff

Well, the inevitable has happened. I made my first major bridal blunder. And boy, was it a doozy!

It has to do with our invitations. I have slaaaaaved over these things night and day. Stared at them for hours. Nitpicked over every detail—the fonts, the wording… everything! The day I finally printed them, I dashed over to Mr. Powder Puff to show him the baby I had birthed after many long hours of painful labor. After probably 2 seconds of looking it over, he asked a simple, fundamental question.

“Why didn’t you put the address on them?”

Um, what?!

Whoopsey! : wedding invitations stationery Img 016 The fatal error. I’ll reveal the full design when they arrive in our guests’ mailboxes.

Yes, that’s right. I failed to put the address of our venue on the invitations. Noooo!

After hemming and hawing over what to do, I decided the best way to fix this problem would be to design a map. A nice, simple map.
Whoopsey! : wedding invitations stationery Untitle02 Thanks to Google Maps and Miss Taffy’s lovely invitations, I whipped this baby up in no time at all. Presto, chango, problem solved! Our invitations will have an extra piece to them, but that beats our guests not knowing where to go!

Did you find any major mistakes on your wedding invitations? What did you do to correct them, if anything?

No mistakes, but now that I’ve mailed them, I wish we’d made our ceremony time a bit later. Oh, well.

That map looks great! What a way to save it. I forgot to put the year on my date on the invitations, which I printed myself. I did catch it after only printing a proof, however I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to add it in after I had perfected the design and spacing without it. I ended up using digits instead of spelling out the date and year. Oh well!

I originally didn’t include any information about parking and our ceremony/reception is in a downtown location. I hadn’t printed them yet, though. So, I was glad that someone reminded me about it.

oh, don’t worry! actually it’s really common to not print the address on the invitation at all and to only include it on an enclosure like you did. no one will think you made a mistake. i got a wedding invitation last year that didn’t have the date on it– not THAT was a mistake :)

Oh NO! I love your fix though. No one will know it was because of a screwup. ;) [Sounds like my master's thesis. Slaved and slaved. Got all printed. Turned it in. THEN my mom looks at it for like 2 seconds and points out that I spelled a word wrong IN THE TITLE. ACK!]

Don’t worry!! According to Crane’s Wedding Blue Book (aka the invitation etiquette bible) “the accepted rule on the use of the street address [on the invitation] is that it’s inclusion is optional unless there is more than one facility with that name in that town, in which case it is mandatory” or if you have many out of town guests, but you can get around having it on the invite by including a map, which you did. Good job on the map, it looks great!

My blunder is putting 4:30 in the evening and not afternoon.
Boy was I crushed when I realized that :( I wanted to have the invitations reprinted, but my Fiancé thinks that is crazy and the people won’t notice. I am a perferctionist so this is very painful!

when i did my sisters invites,i printed out one after designing it and asked everyone in my house to proof read it, and still no one noticed they had the wrong day on them until the night i was planning on sending them out when i gave the people in my house their copy. so yeah, could of been worse, i had to remake them all in 2 days

Oh wow, If I got your invite I would never even think that was a mistake at all. I would say your invites were that much cooler with a map instead of the address! And the fact that your map is super adorable!

I forgot to include an RSVP date because I got caught up in how brilliant I was to ask people to RSVP by phone or email to save a bit of money on the return cards/postage. I thought about having everything reprinted, but we had enough space on the card to add a clear label with the date in a font close to the original. It is noticeable, but I’d rather have that fix than pay another $75 for reprints!

I think we’re getting married on the same day!

Anyway, I made little inserts for the rehearsal dinner that were dated June 10th. (The wedding is in July.) Having people practice the ceremony a whole month and a day early seemed silly (although I considered it for a second!), so I just reprinted the cards. Probably cost an extra fifty cents. I’m so glad I made the invitations myself. Having them professionally re-printed would have cost a fortune!

I’ve made other bridal blunders–buying three veils, four pairs of shoes, two wedding bands. I’m a little indecisive. It’s all coming together though! Good luck with the rest of your planning! Can’t wait to see more picture.

Yeah, I’m with the camp that doesn’t think that is a mistake. I think it is very common to have the information printed on an additional enclosure so that the invitation itself is more clean lined. Which doesn’t mean you CAN’T include the address on the invitation itself, but rather that it isn’t a mistake not to.

I don’t think you even made a mistake! I’ve never seen an address on a wedding invitation. It’s more common for casual invitations to include an address, but all of the wedding invitations I’ve ever seen have had just the venue. Then there was either a map included or I just knew where it was. So, they’re perfect! :)
