Engaging Locations

April 21st, 2009 @ 11:14 am by Mrs. Beagle

Mr. B and I are will be taking our e-pics in two weeks and we have yet to 1) decide what we are going to dress up in and 2) where we will take them. I know our lovely photographer will produce a great end result, but we would like to take our photos at places that are memorable to us. A few places that I have come up with are:

Our Alma maters (important to who we are now, we spent a lot of time and money at these schools):

UT

St. Edwards

Spider House Cafe (I practically lived here during college studying, plus it’s very eclectic and would make for some interesting pictures… and it involves coffee. We love coffee):

Opal Divines- We would call this “our” restaurant… we love their food, and they have a fabulous beer selection (see all those beers on tap in the background?):

Zilker Park- an ode to the green spaces in Austin, this would be great for some outdoor pics, specifically on this bridge (I love this bridge, not sure why):

And also, I would like to get some pictures in with this guy, our basset hound, Kingsley:

Are you taking engagement photos? Where are you taking them?

I shot some e-pics of a couple I know playing chess in an eclectic coffee house, and those were their favorites! Definitely do the coffee house :)

I wish we could’ve gotten a pic with our dog!!! But 1.) we took our e-pics when we were out of town and 2.) he’s such a huge wuss that he would’ve just looked terrified in all the pictures!

we did all of ours outdoors, in front of some cool abandoned barns and also in a blossoming apple orchard. I say definitely the coffee shop, and definitely the bridge. Including Kingsley is a must!!!

Oooh! I love the bridge! The cafe looks like a fun location, too, especially if both of you are coffee drinkers. And your dog will help to create some fun photo ops!

We ended up taking ours in Pittsburgh. We wanted the city to be the backdrop, especially since our wedding will be farther out of town and we won’t get city pictures on that day.

All of those locations look like they would make for great shots! I love how they all have meaning to you two! That is even better. As for your outfits, make them fun and colorful! You don’t need to match each other, but coordinating colors would be helpful. Have fun!!

We are taking our engagement pictures on Thursday in Austin! We are going to the East side for colorful buildings/walls and a field, then heading to South Congress for more colorful buildings!

Those are great spots! So personal too! We went to downtown Austin near the convention center and on 6th where there are lots of colorful backdrops!

natural lighting is always more flattering for portraits, I would avoid dark restaurants!

FH and I are taking two sets of e-pics. some in DC (our current residence) and some at home. In DC we chose monuments since he proposed there, and some places closer to our house to include our fur-baby. In San Diego, I think we will do the beach (we both love to surf) and maybe our alma mater, which is where we met. Can’t wait to see how yours turn out.

We are taking ours next month. We are doing our alma mater, the beach and some downtown shots. I can’t wait!

I love that you are including your dog, I wish we could but I dont think our hotel would let him stay over since we are doing it out of state.

A word of warning about Zilker Park. Check carefully with your photographer about this location. I tried to book a session with a local photographer there and she was wise in the ways of the photography world that I knew nothing about and forewarned me that there is a park fee for using the park in pictures.

It might not be much, and might totally be worth it, just wanted you to know that you might need to look into it…

LOVE all the spots! A great collection of local Austin haunts!

@cottoncandy: I know that there is a fee for the Zilker Gardens, but I haven’t heard about a fee for the park. Thanks for the advice!

Haha Mr. Sakoro who is a Texas alumni, often tells me about the resident cat at Spider House cafe who spent his days napping in the sun and getting petted by the students. Hmm, might not mix too well with Kingsley…

I can’t wait to see your e-pics, Miss Beagle! I went to UT and clocked in many hours at Spiderhouse and Zilker Park while I was there.

I’m from Austin as well, and familiar with all of those locations. (btw… it’s fun watching you plan a wedding in my city!) we are having trouble trying to think of a place to take e-pics as well. i would like to take them outside, but im worried it will be so hot by the time we take them (prob not till june) that we (he) will be dripping in sweat!

my vote: UT/St. Ed, there are so many beautiful spots on both campuses that your photog could take advantage of. and even though it’s on campus, it doesn’t have to be school-themed.

We did our e-photos in Austin. We chose Amy’s ice cream (on Burnet) because that’s weher we had our first date. I even wore the same outfit. Corny, I know. We also did the obligatory postcard pic and took some in front of the “Greetings from Austin” mural around S. Congress. We were after lots of colors.

Have fun! I want to do my bridal pics (all about me since he doesn’t drink coffee) at a coffee shop. Spider House is a great idea.
