Mrs. Kitten's Picture
Mrs. Kitten, Austin/Grand Cayman Age and Occupation: 25, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Dental Student Engagement Date: October 19, 2006 Wedding Date: April, 2009 Venue: The Grand Old House, Grand Cayman About Me: In 2009 I will get married (after a two and a half year engagement!), become an Army wife, graduate from law school, take the bar, move from Austin to Washington, D.C., and start my career as a lawyer! With all this going on, Mr. Kitten and I decided to have a tropical, "stress-free" destination wedding. Nevertheless, my micromanaging, detail-oriented, perfectionist side has prevailed---I am currently obsessed with every last detail of my "stress-free" destination wedding! But most of all, I'm beyond excited to become Mrs. Kitten on a fabulous Caribbean vacation surrounded by my friends and family!
About Mrs. Kitten

Lucky

Lucky : wedding music 3120248 Source

During the course of our wedding planning, Mr. K and I had a really hard time deciding what song we would use for our first dance. The closest thing we have to a “song” would be Such Great Heights (by The Postal Service or Iron and Wine–we love both versions!) but it’s not a great song for dancing (the Postal Service version is too electronic and the Iron and Wine version would put people to sleep!). We also didn’t want to pick a song just because it seemed like a good first dance song. For example, I love the song At Last by Etta James–it’s a beautiful, classic song, and fitting for a couple that has had a 4.5 year courtship, but the song just wasn’t “us” enough to be our first dance song.

Last fall I heard I’m Yours by Jason Mraz and fell in love with the song. It definitely has an island-vibe and the lyrics are just so sweet and happy! But again, it had the same problem as “Such Great Heights”–it’s not a great song for dancing. Not that it’s impossible to dance to, but Mr. K and I aren’t the most skilled dancers–we need a song with a good dancing beat to help us out a bit!

In October Mr. K and I went to see Jason Mraz in concert. He played the song Lucky, live with his opening act, Lisa Hannigan. I remember both Mr. K and I loving the song at the concert, but I somehow I promptly forgot all about it later. Well, just a few months before our wedding, I saw the music video for “Lucky” featuring Colbie Callait, and I actually teared up while watching it (this is BIG, people! I am NOT a crier!)! The lyrics to the song are sooo sweet, and they perfectly describe us Kittens! Plus, the song is about a long-distance relationship (something we’ve had going for almost four years now!). And to top it all off, it mentions a rendezvous on a beachy island. It was the PERFECT song for the Kitten wedding!

How did you choose your first dance song? Is it a song you had planned on using all along or something that hit you during the wedding planning process?

Oh, I gotta share this post with the mister — he’s such a Mraz fan, and has a favorite Pandora station built completely around that type of music!

LOVE this song!!

But the Mr. isn’t a big Jason Mraz fan… although I played this for him, and he agreed that the lyrics reflect our relationship.

=D This is our song too. We heard it for the first time together the morning of our proposal and thought the lyrics was perfect for us.

My Mom heard this song and called me right away to tell me about it, unfortunately we already have our first dance song but this will definitely be played during dinner. It is a really beautiful song!

ooh actually this is the song i want to have as our first dance. as an ldr couple it’s perfect. especially the line “every time we said goodbye i wished we had one more kiss.” your reasons are pretty much the same ones why i want this song too!

We’ve been looking for the perfect song and we keep going back to “I’ll Follow You Into the Dark” by Death Cab For Cutie. We’re a little hesitant because it starts off talking about death but we love that no one is using it. Our minds aren’t completely made up though. We really liked the DCFC song because I introduced him to them early on in our relationship and he was hesitant to give in but now he really likes (some of) their songs.

Mrs. Kitten, I’m jealous! I LOVE this song and I think it would be absolutely perfect for our first dance song. I planned on having it as our song, but now I’m worried that it might not be the best since my cousin and his wife just used it as their song at their wedding this February. I was so disappointed when I found out they were using it! :(

The first time me and my mister heard this song we started dancing, and of course, I cried. It’s perfect for long distance relationships, and perfect for a first dance. Great choice!

Instead of a First Dance we had a First Song, and this was ours too!!! We did change one word, however, to make it more… us. :)

Love the song!! I’ve got the biggest crush on Jason Mraz! If we weren’t going for a vintage feel, it would totally be on the list of first dance songs!

i LOVE this song!! it was on our list of first songs…but it’s not really the boy’s type of music….so we might be using it before the ceremony, for prelude songs.

That song is great! And the tempo and sound are so beachy and perfect for a DW.

The first time I heard this song on the radio - I thought it would be our first dance song. I got it off iTunes as soon as I got home, but the FI wasn’t as into the music itself. I think we’re going with Ray LaMontagne’s “You’re the Best Thing” because it’s more of “our” musical style.

This was our first dance too!! So fun to dance to. We actually were thinking about “At Last” too, but then DH heard this song over the summer and we switched! We were in a LDR, too– perfect song. :)
