Multi-Tasking My Clothes

April 21st, 2009 @ 12:10 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

I am the type of girl that is all about buying beautiful things I love, and then wearing them to death. Flipping through my personal photos is like repeated deja vu. And let me tell you, sister, I love it!

So when I make a purchase, I justify it by making sure I can wear it on multiple occasions. Recently I was visiting my other boyfriend, J. Crew, when I stumbled upon this gorgeous little number:

Multi-Tasking My Clothes : wedding dress 13 1

I immediately accosted my fainting couch, because this dress gives me a case of the vapors! It’s knit, so it can be casual or dressy, and the little ruffles around the neck make me want to swoon. When you have a reaction this strong to a piece of clothing, you don’t question it, you just buy!

And the best part is, I can multi-task the h-e-double-hockey-sticks out of it. This dress, plus an adorable pair of gold flat sandals I own, will be a swoon-worthy outfit for not only my bridal shower, but also a friend’s wedding in August, and probably our rehearsal dinner, as well. Get used to this ensemble, hive, because you’re going to be seeing many MANY pictures of me in it!

Do you buy clothes with multiple events in mind?

i do! i do it with dresses. i don’t usually wear dresses so i like to get something that is event and church appropriate, even if it means just adding a cropped cardigan or something. so far so good!

Yup. People must think I only have 2 or 3 dresses! But I hate to buy something and only wear it once.

Right there with ya sister. I am a huge multi-wearer. If only I could find another event to wear my wedding dress at?? That’d be awesome!

Haha, same here! Right now I’m considering outfits that could work for wedding events, but that I would definately wear as a Mrs. too! Cute dress, by the way.

Oh I wish I could say the same thing. For some reason, I just don’t like seeing myself in the same thing more than a few times. When I buy something, I usually LOVE it. But if I’ve already worn it one time during the month, and especially if I have pictures of myself in it, I’ll try to find something else to wear. It’s so stupid, I know. Maybe I’ll try to take a page out of your book, Miss PP. Way cute dress, by the way :)

I wish you hadn’t shown me that dress, now I’m scrambling through my head for a good excuse to cough up the money to buy it. =P And yes, I’m all about buying items you love and getting the most wear out of them. The dress I bought for our e-pics will most likely be making an appearance at a friend’s wedding in the fall, as well as our rehearsal dinner.

That’s how I make any clothes purchase these days! I even plan on doing a TTD shoot just so I can wear my dress for more than 1 day :)

YES! Every frock i buy now is justified as having at least 2 wedding related events attached. Anthropologie and I are on a first name basis as a result.

I also might have to copy you and buy that dress, and you can’t beat the price!

I also love wearing clothes to multiple events. I get a little hung up, though, sometimes, when it takes on a certain meaning. (Like, the dress I wore to a funeral, or the dress I wore on a nice date with an ex, etc.) I love your choice and knocking out so many outfits with one quality purchase!

I’m right there with you. I love to splurge on things I really love and then wear the heck outta them! I’m currently wondering if it’s ok to wear the same dress to two bridal showers if no one from shower #1 will be at shower #2?

That’s a cute dress! I shop the same way. Right now, I’m trying to find a dress I can wear for my shower that will also serve as my “get-a-way” dress at the reception and something I can wear on our honeymoon.

Sorta like multitasking clothes: When I find something I lurve…I buy it up in tons of similar colors/styles. So, I hear ya on the deja vu wardrobe, and I’m totes fine with it! ;-)

I do love to wear a good outfit multiple times, but I have a rule - no one can see me wear the outfit twice out of the trimonthly rotation! I know, quirky? But I live by it. I once had a good friend who bought the exact same dress I did, and she wore the crap out of it - I mean, every freaking Sunday, like it was the only dress she ever owned. I tried to wear mine once (ONCE!!!) to church - and totally received about 5 comments about how often I wear that dress! It has set a standard for life!

@ggsb: ABSOLUTELY!! I would wear it even if the same people were going to be at the event, if I loved it that much. I have no shame, lol!
