It has been so long since my last update! I know I promised recaps, but I’ve been so busy lately. Mr. Martini and I agreed to stay at our current apartment for about 4-6 months so that we could take the time to get rid of some things and eventually move to a smaller place, but just a couple of weeks ago we found an awesome apartment and decided to take the plunge and move now. So, just shortly after unpacking my things, we’re suddenly re-packing everything for our move this coming weekend.
Because the last couple of months of wedding planning was so hectic, and because we haven’t gotten our professional photos from our photographers yet, I did want to catch up and post about a few things that happened before the wedding date in the meantime—especially the bridal shower and bachelorette party.
I truly have the most amazing friends.
That deserved its own line.
I never wanted a bachelorette party. I never wanted a shower. I hate being the center of attention, and I didn’t want to inconvenience anyone. But my MOHs refused to give me that option, so I wanted to make it as painless as possible, with minimal cost. I would’ve been happy with just a low-key dinner with close friends, or maybe even a slumber party with lots of alcohol.
After much begging, I was able to get them to agree, but in return I wasn’t allowed to complain about anything else they planned for me. A few weeks later, I was given instructions to go to the Hilton Hotel in NYC at a specific time, and instructions to bring a change of clothes, but no other information other than the fact that it would be a variation of the slumber party I had wanted. As Mr. Martini dropped me off in front of the hotel, he joked, “If a ’cop’ comes knocking, don’t open the door!”
When I walked into the hotel suite, I found all my friends there, decorations everywhere, a whole section reserved for alcohol, and a table full of Joe’s Pizza. It was all I could ever ask for. After we had our fill of possibly the best pizza in NYC, Mrs. Bee started pulling out cheese, meat, crackers, and grapes from an icebox. If anyone would be pulling out cheese and crackers in random places, it would be Mrs. Bee (LOL!), so I didn’t think too much about it and just assumed that she was still hungry. Not long after, there was a knock on the door. My heart leapt into my throat and I had this sudden fear that it was going to be a “cop”, but instead, a gorgeous, super-tall woman walked through the door. She came in carrying cases and cases of…
Wine?
My first surprise of the night was a private wine tasting from Wineside Out!
I was ecstatic. What a thoughtful and fun surprise! We spent the next hour or so tasting 6 wonderful wines—three white, and three red. We all love wine too, and we and totally bombarded her with questions. Ever since then, I can recognize the taste of a Pinot Noir without looking at the label, and I’m subconsciously scanning liquor stores for 2005 wines. Of course, wine knowledge is an endless pool, but Wineside Out is perfect for anyone who loves wine. And I LOVE wine.
Joe’s Pizza!
Goodness, I guess penis straws are a staple for bachelorette parties.

The next surprise brought tears to my eyes. About a week before, my MOHs gave me a tightly secured envelope with instructions to pass it onto Mr. Martini and his roommate at the time. I wasn’t allowed to open it, was asked not to drop it, and was ordered not to ask any more questions. I finally found out what it was when they pulled out a laptop: inside the envelope was a camera with instructions, including intimate questions about our relationship for Mr. Martini to answer for a Newlywed game with a “bachelorette twist”. The hilarious thing was that his roommate recorded him answering the questions!
Of course, the game wouldn’t be the same without alcohol, so the MOHs added their own rule - if I got the question right, everyone else took a shot. If I got the question wrong, I had to take a shot.
The suckers taking a shot. (But I think I probably took every other shot after that. LOL!)
The next game was a Jeopardy game. Of course, I wasn’t allowed to play, but I had such a blast watching everyone else try to get the answers. I didn’t even know some of the answers to the questions, and they were about me!
I seriously felt so lucky that I have such amazing friends that made me feel so special, and I had so much fun drinking and hanging out with everyone. It really couldn’t get any better this, I thought… but then they threw me a bridal shower, too.
