Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/Savannah Age and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports Reporter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT Engagement Date: December 31, 2008 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. About Mrs. Labrador

My wonderful future sister-in-law came up with an idea for the location of our rehearsal dinner: the Savannah Riverboat! She then proceeded to say things like, “But we can look around!” or, “You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to!” But I absolutely love the idea! I assured her that I think this would be the most fun for the wedding party and limited guests (we’re having a very intimate rehearsal dinner of wedding party and immediate family only).

It’s even better knowing that I don’t have to worry about planning for the dinner. Leslie and her mom (my FMIL) are putting the entire thing together, and my FMIL has offered to foot the bill (as is the tradition of the groom’s parents). I know I can trust them to put together a fabulous evening!

We’ll do our rehearsal less than a mile away at our actual ceremony square, then we’ll probably just walk back to River Street for the dinner cruise. I think we may try to park in a deck halfway between the two locations to split the difference for the walk back to the cars. Parking can be a little crazy in downtown Savannah, and moving the cars may not be feasible.

After the dinner comes the REALLY fun part. We want to go on a ghost tour after the dinner cruise! I’m hoping that our budget will allow us to treat at least our wedding party to the hearse driving ghost tour, but we may have to do a walking tour instead. I’m still not sure whether we will invite the out-of-towners along with us (if we can find the correct wording in an invite to indicate that they’re welcome but will have to pay their own way, we definitely will). I know that traditional etiquette calls for having out-of-towners attend the rehearsal dinner, but I’m just not feeling that. We already have a tight budget and don’t really want a ton of people seeing us “practice” for the real deal. So in place of invites to the rehearsal dinner, we will make sure to give the out-of-towners care packages full of things to do while in Savannah.

What special treats are you giving to your out of town guests?

Fun! I hope you can find a way to invite the out of towners. Ghost tours, etc. are such a fun way to help people get to know a city they are visiting. Plus, it could help your guests get to know each other!

you could put ghost tour brochure with a note about what time/day you guys are going and ask if the guest want to meet up to take the tour too. I don’t think people would assume you guys are paying if you did it that way! Sounds like a blast.

Traditionally the out-of-towners would just go to the rehearsal dinner and not the rehearsal :) JTIS, not that I’m saying you need to invite them.
I would like to do bags for the out of towners’ rooms, but I haven’t figured that out yet. We are inviting them to the rehearsal dinner and the day after brunch, but that is more his parents and my parents. I would like to do something.

NO WAY! I was in Savannah for the first time in March for a convention. We ate brunch on that same river boat! It was AMAZING! We also did the ghost tour. I am not sure which one, but we found the tickets along the river walk. We really did not care for the ghost tour. I have heard there is a ghost tour where you go to the bars which I hear is a lot more fun! Ohh I am soo jealous! Savannah is a Gorgeous city and I hope to be able to go back some day!

“I know that traditional etiquette calls for having out-of-towners attend the rehearsal dinner, but I’m just not feeling that.”

From my understanding, etiquette only says you have to invite those in the wedding(who will be at the rehearsal) to the rehearsal dinner. Inviting all out of towners to the rehearsal dinner might be traditional in some cultures though…

@Gerbera: That sounds like a fair deal! Maybe we could work something out? ;)

@purpleHaze79: Haha, that is TOO funny! Please tell me he’s like Mr. Lab and jumps at everything that makes a noise!

@Nikki: That’s actually a really good idea. Thanks!

We’re doing a private Jack the Ripper tour for our guests the day after the wedding (we’re getting married in London). So I’m glad to hear of someone else doing a spooky tour too! And our wedding guests are being transported from the church to the reception on double-decker Big Red London buses, which will take them past some major tourist sites. I’m kinda jealous that we won’t be riding with them!

Do NOT bother with the hearse ghost tour. If you want to do a good one, take a walking tour. The hearse one was simply bizarre with no real stories or spookiness to them. Total waste of my money and I do these every year wherever I vacation.
