I Heart Fabric

April 23rd, 2009 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Beagle

(a lot)

And I “collect” it. Yes, I’m one of those people- a “fabric hoarder”. As is evidenced by this:

I wanted to incorporate fabric into the wedding because, well, I love it… and I love to sew. Conveniently, since I knew I wanted to avoid using fresh flowers if at all possible, I had a solution. I decided to make our (and by “our” I am including the bridal party as well) bouquets and boutonnieres from fabric. I searched many sources online (including Martha Stewart and Etsy) to get ideas on what fabric bouquets and flowers should look like, but I really didn’t find anything that inspired me enough to produce an exact replica. The solution? I worked from scratch to create my own design.

The fabric:

I Heart Fabric : wedding decor Img 19801 I Heart Fabric : wedding decor Img 199 I Heart Fabric : wedding decor Img 19901 I plan on using dark and light purples in my bouquet, and browns, ivory, and shades of pale blue for the ’maids. I tried to choose fabrics that varied slightly in texture and color and complemented one another. Carrying bolts of fabric around Jo-Ann’s was the simplest method of accomplishing this. I also picked up some green fabric (mostly because it was on clearance):

I Heart Fabric : wedding decor Img 19902 I’m not sure if I will work it in or not.

I created a “trial” ’maids bouquet (not yet sure if I will use it):

I’m still working out a design for the stems and I like the overall shape and color scheme. Originally I was going to make all the ’maids’ bouquets the same, but I think I’m going to vary each of them slightly. I’ll keep the same color scheme, but I will be using different textures of fabric and different flower forms. As I continue the process of making/adding onto the bouquets, I will post them. I haven’t come up with a solid idea for the bouts yet, so I think I will wait until all of the bouquets are finished and then make complementary bouts for each bouquet. :)

How have you incorporated your hobbies into your wedding?

Oh, WOW! Those are beautiful! You have mad flower-making skills, Miss Beagle! Great job. I’m really impressed! The feathers and berries complement the bouquets perfectly, too.

What a GREAT idea. I really like that bouquet! Are you creating the stems out of fabric too? You could use a thick floral wire for the stems(although i’m not sure how thick and sturdy it would be) or you may be able to spray paint some twigs green and somehow attach them to the flowers so they look like stems.

Wow! I tried to make fabric ones, but they didn’t come out anywhere near as yours did. So I’m having a bouquet made of ribbons instead. I love the idea of having a bouquet that can be kept. Mine is going to my Grandmother who unfortunately can’t make it to the wedding. Are you keeping yours or doing the traditional bouquet throw?

If I am completely honest, I have to say I want to PAY YOU to do this for other brides!! Those look AMAZING. If I didn’t have a florist booked…you should think about doing this for a living. Love them and please post a tutorial sometime in the future!!!

@Luvbug6315: the stems are currently wire wrapped in brown floral tape. I’m probably going to wrap them in ribbon or fabric, but I’m not sure what it will look like yet.

Thanks for all the kind comments! I’m still debating on a tutorial because I may want to start an etsy shop… but I promise y’all will be the first to see the tutorial if I post one!
