About Mrs. Mascara

A Grey’s Wedding

April 24th, 2009 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Mascara

Grey’s Anatomy has been one of the only shows I’ve ever watched religiously ever since the first episode. I love the medical/soap opera combination… I also enjoy seeing the products that my company makes in each episode (I’m a nerd like that). Tonight’s episode added another element to the formula that made me enjoy it even more! That’s right… weddings!

Here’s the synopsis (at least for the wedding part of the plot):

Meredith and Derek are getting married, and Izzie throws herself into planning the wedding in hopes that it will help her avoid the side effects of chemotherapy. Meredith wants a simple wedding, and her and Derek joke that they want to get married in their scrubs and hold surgical instruments as her bouquet. Izzie tells them a large, traditional wedding is a requirement, and sets up a makeshift bridal boutique in her hospital room, forcing Meredith to try on poofy white dresses against her will. Meredith obliges because she feels bad that Izzie is sick. All in all, it made for a pretty entertaining episode!

I’ll admit though, I was a little surprised when Meredith came out in “the” dress. I was envisioning her in a modern gown with no beading or tulle and made of luxurious fabric, like this one from Melissa Sweet.

Instead, she walked out in this dress.

Whether you think the dress fits her style or not, I don’t think anyone can argue that her hair and makeup in this picture is gorgeous! File it away in your inspiration folder!

Thank you, Grey’s Anatomy, for being my unexpected source of wedding inspiration today. I don’t know about you, but I hope they are going to show the actual wedding on the show!

I’m not sure what to think of it. It’s a pretty dress; I just don’t think it really fits her personality on the show. What do you think?

umm.. I didn’t see this episode, but does anyone else think that this dress doesn’t fit her right? It looks like the dress is wearing her, rather than she it.
There’s no denying she looks incredibly happy, though! :)
Great find, Miss Mascara!

I don’t know if I love the dress (something about the waist) but her hair and makeup sure is amazing!! I want mine just like that!! Into the inspiration folder it goes!!

Also, Mascara, I work at a med-tech and I have to say I feel the same way about watching shows like Scrubs and House and seeing the devices I work with on the show! It’s kind of exciting, but I feel like a geek!

yay for grey’s! I’ve also been an avid fan since day 1. i LOVE it. and even though my hubby used to make fun of me for it, after we married, we watched it together and now he’s hooked!

on to the matter at hand, I don’t think the dress matches her at all. She needs something simple. She even said it to Derek that she’s not the poofy white dress bride. I don’t know about you, but that dress looks poofy to me! :)

There’s some twists coming for sure, but I hope they show the wedding!

I didn’t like any of the dresses she tried on! It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting!

@Miss Rye Bread: I don’t watch the show, but from Mascara’s synopsis it sounds like she’s just supposed to be trying on the dresses?

I watched the episode (just now on abc.com actually!) and I didn’t think the dress matched her, either. I pictured her as a j.crew bride: simple and elegant, with not a lot of embellishment. The hair suits her though - I would die for those perfect messed up waves!

hrmm, I think you picked the perfect dress for her!! Suits her much better than the last one… but yea, those first 2 were hideous, but Izzy did say that she made her try those on cuz she thought it would be funny, haha.

i think that with a static picture it doesn’t do the dress justice. when i was watching last night i was like WOW!

Nope, I don’t think that dress suits her at all.

But then again, I’ve never got Grey’s Anatomy. It seems like the worst tv show ever to me.

I love that dress but I think a girl as skinny as her should flaunt it with a sheath.

Let’s just hope it turns out better than the Christina/Burk wedding…

Meredith is pregnant in real life and must have started to show when this was filmed, which is why they chose such an odd looking waist!

I agree, hair and makeup are definitely gorgeous and inspiring! The dress…meh, I’m not really a fan of embellished dresses in general and I don’t think it suits her character at all.

However I’ve heard that it might not be Mer/Der who gets married in the end so she might not be wearing that after all!

I totally agree. This dress is not what I would expect for Meredith at all. The fit is off as well. Love the hair and makeup though. She’s actually glowing.

I’ve been hooked on Greys since season one as well, and I agree…it doesn’t quite suit her character. Too many sparkles. But when she twirled around in it, it looked kinda perfect. :) Also, why can’t my hair and makeup magically become perfect when I try on “the” dress?? No fair.

I agree. All the dresses were horrible on her but I do love her hair and makeup too.

I picture Meredith in more of a hippie whimsical dress. Something more reminiscent of Mamma Mia characters dress. hmmm.
