Flower Girl or Flower Child?

April 24th, 2009 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

We are planning on having lots of little ones scurrying around at the wedding. Not only do two of our friends have buns in the oven, but Mr. Cowboy Boot has two young nieces, and I have one young cousin. When I say “young”, I’m talking around four. Beyond that, there are others with wee little ones all the way up to twelve year olds. We love kids and couldn’t imagine our wedding without them. I mean, if we considered dogs, how could we nix kids?

These three lovely little ladies (CB’s nieces and my cousin) will make up our flower girl trio.

And they couldn’t be more excited. My four-year-old cousin, for instance, came along to a dress trial in Los Angeles one day. Somehow, she managed to slip into a dressing room with one of those dresses where the rose petals hang loose in the fabric and high heels that were twelve sizes to large for her. She didn’t want to take any of it off.

No matter her love for $100 flower-girl dresses, I’ve been very adamant about finding dresses that won’t break the bank. Nothing over $50. And, I’m not worried about formal. There’s nothing sweeter than a little girl in a simple white cotton dress with bare feet running in the grass. Okay, they’ll probably be wearing shoes, but you get the idea.

While I don’t have pics of Mr. CB’s lovely nieces, I can only introduce you to my little cousin. We’ll call her the beautiful Cowboy Boot Cuz. Here she is, doing her best flower-girl impression in a couple of dresses she already owns.

While I adore the dresses she already owns, I came across this eyelet number on Etsy.com. AngelWear will make them custom for the girls… for only $28 each! I really want a fun, vintage-y eyelet, and she’s agreed to make them out of whatever fabric I find.

I love their hippie, love child feel. And, with a flower in their hair, they couldn’t look more adorable.

Where did you find your flower girl dresses?

OMG! She is SO adorable!! I love her little red ringlets. Soooooo cute!
We’re going to have 3 FGs (7, 3 & 1!!) and 2 RBs (7 & 4) all of whom are our niece & nephews. =D
I definitely want something they will all be comfy in. I’m on the fence between WaWa FG dresses/simple Easter Dresses or these really cute babydoll dresses I found on Etsy! For the RBs I absolutely love Crewcuts little seersucker short suits!

Oh, and I got my flower girl’s dress (which is similar to what you picked… but more poof in the skirt) at Burlington Coat Factory. This is a great time for flower girl dresses because all of the Easter dresses are our and a lot are discounted.

@Miss Rye Bread: She hasn’t! She lives in Los Angeles and her partners-in-crime are in New York. I’m sure they’ll love each other at the wedding though.

Oh I love it! The hippy love child feel would be perfect for a ranch wedding!!! You don’t want her to wear a lot of tulle and glitter! Natural is best! Great eye and idea, Miss CB!

What a cutie! My youngest nephew (age 2) will be fulfilling the flower girl duties, but he’ll be scattering feathers and leaves instead of flower petals. As adorable as he’ll be, I wish that I could be shopping for little flower girl dresses! The dress that you found is perfect!

I had to reread part of your post because you said that your 4 year old cousin put on a dress with flowers loose in the fabric and I did a double take!! When I went to try on THE DRESS, my aunt and 3 year old cousin went with me. She tried on a dress with loose flowers and was parading around in my shoes! It was the cutest thing ever and I REALLY wish we would have gotten a picture of it!
