Help From a PRO!

Guess what? The wonderful Lo of Lo&Co offered up some fabulous makeup advice for me and my big day. I’ve been searching for someone to do my makeup, but seeing as we are getting married in the middle of nowhere, it has been a challenge. So, I emailed Lo and asked if she had any advice!! (BTW she is SUPER sweet!) I figure I’ve got about 4 months to practice. :)

Here was her response:

Miss Gloss,

You are too cute! You look really great without makeup, and it will be easy to make you look even more “natural” for your wedding. First of all, your eyes are gorgeous, and you have great skin and bone structure. Let’s just even out your skin tone and add a little definition and dimension. I love your inspirational photos and this is what I refer to as a “classic eye”. It is all about a sheer shimmer shadow and a tight liner across the top of the lid. False lashes can add extra glam. I did this eye on Carissa in a previous post, which has a detailed product list. The only difference is doing a pink lip instead of a deep berry.

I think this will be a great complement to your halter style dress and summer wedding venue. However, since you don’t wear a lot of makeup we need to see how comfortable you are with this eyeliner. I want you to go to a Bobbi Brown, M.A.C. or Stila counter with these photos and ask an artist to show you how to do this eyeliner. All of the aforementioned brands have a gel liner that is perfect for this and easier to use than liquid liner. I recommended trying a dark gray liner instead of black - it will be a little softer.

For the lip try out some of the Bobbi Brown pink glosses layered over a lip pencil. I love Bobbi’s Petal, Pink Beige, and Rose Sugar gloss. I have used these on countless brides over a neutral lip pencil. You can adjust the color with the lip pencil. If you want more pink in your lip, go with a pinker liner or for more depth use a darker pencil under the pink gloss. Experiment and find out what you feel best in.

Finally, if you feel that the liner is too strong you can smudge the liner and soften the look. Simply apply a medium gray shadow (M.A.C’s Print shadow) on a small eye shadow brush, and blend it into the liner. This creates a smudged smoky line which many women feel more comfortable in. There is no perfect look for everyone; it is all about what you feel best in. Trust your instincts, and don’t worry, as an expert I guarantee you are going to look gorgeous no matter what!

xoxo,

Lo

You can see the whole post here on Weddingbee PRO! (And check out all her other great tips too!!)
This is me, sans make-up after a LONG day of work… just so she could see what we are working with here.

Help From a PRO! : wedding makeup For Lo

After I got her response I went STRAIGHT to Nordstrom after work and picked up her suggested products with a little help from the Bobbie Brown girl – It took like 2 hours to find the right under eye concealer/corrector at Bobbi Brown, but I think we finally got it right.

@MAC: blitz & glitz gel liner, lingering eyebrow pencil, and print eyeshadow
@ Bobbi Brown: Concealer Kit in Ivory, Corrector in Light to Medium Bisque, Blush in Slopes, and Lip Gloss in Aubergine

I decided to wait on foundation since my skin color will most likely be tanner by the time August roles around. So here’s what it kinda looks like. Mind you – I did this myself (except for the under eye corrector) and I’m not sure about the lip color yet; it definitely looked better at the store, but now I feel like it might be too much… the light pinks all looked really coral-y and not so great. I’m also not sure about the liner on the bottom lash - but I knew I needed things to be heavier to show up better for pictures.

What do you guys think? Will you be doing your own makeup for the big day?

SIDENOTE: I LOVE the gel eyeliner!!

BEAUTIFUL! You definitely dont need to tone down the gloss, its gorgeous. Youre probably just not used to a color being that heavy. I am anadvocate for more of a glossy tint, and I think that is gorgous (considering going to try it out for mine!!) To be honest, you may not need foundation…you have great skin. I like the liner on the bototm lash, though a bit lighter (I know what you mean about needing it to photograph.

Truly, I think the overall look is gorgeous.

I think it looks great! I would either skip the liner on the bottom, or just do it lighter. I do LOVE the lip color on you though, it looks perfect!

You look great!!! If you try it with a lighter lipgloss, post a pic.

Where can I get her e-mail? I sent her two e-mails and they bounced…

FANTASTIC!!! Your eyes just pop and all the colors are perfect for you! I don’t think you need liner on the bottom–it would look cleaner and more retro without it. Again, just lovely!!!

Doing your own makeup lets the real you shine through. If you’re a no make-up girl, that’s cool. If you’re a neon-eyeliner girl, good for you!

If someone else does it, who knows what you’ll end up looking like! It’s your day, so be true to yourself. ;)

You look beautiful just the way you are!

Best wishes!

The make up looks great and I think the lower lid eyeliner is totally natural and good looking…. I am doing my own make up too and went for a lesson with this amazing makeup artist around here. I have a new favrorite thing: a crease brush! She said to get one shaped like a candle flame and then just dip the tip in your crease color. Then, with your eyes open (??!!–yup!) move the tip of the brush back and forth like a windshield wiper from the middle of the pupil to the edge of your eye. It makes such an AWESOME look—totally awesome way to put on shadow and it really makes it look professional. It might help you…. you can find them everywhere but here’s one example of what they look like: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2094053&productId=VP12117&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80086

Hope the make up on the day of goes well! I’m sure you’ll look amazing!

Love the lip color! I’d go lighter on the blush though with maybe more blending?

You have amazing eyes and that’s going to look amazing in pictures. Maybe yes on the lighter undereye liner.

I like it a lot, but would forego any liner on the bottom lash line - don’t need it and it changes the look. You don’t need anything but a light foundation which will look like your skin only a smidgen better. When you apply a light foundation and set it with a little powder the blush will blend better into your skin. I like the lip color a lot and since you probably won’t touch up your lip much, this color will be pretty light after an hour. I really want to see it without the liner on the bottom. Great job!! xoxo, Lo

I’m nowhere NEAR talented enough to do my own wedding day makeup — but you did a great job! :-) Also, super jealous at your makeup free face…I’ve got huge undereye circles and a super rosy tzone! :-(

Great job! I don’t wear make-up at all. I once decided to go to a counter and pick out a lip stain and what a disaster. I was at the counter for 30 minutes and left the store empty handed. So I will be having my make-up done for me.
