About Mrs. Joey

Mr. Joey, Is That You?

April 24th, 2009 @ 12:17 pm by Mrs. Joey

So I mentioned before that Mr.Joey was apparently inspired by the last wedding we attended. Never has he willingly wanted to discuss the ceremony apart from what music will be played. Now he talks of readings, personal touches, and traditions we can add. I’m blown away.

And then I was blown away again. Last night I came down with another awful sinus headache after dinner and went straight to bed. This morning, when I checked my email, I saw one from Mr. Joey, titled “rings”. I opened it up to find that last night while I was asleep, he searched online for his wedding band. He’ll do wedding research, but I have to ask him to do it. He researched rings all on his own. Um, hello? Is that really you, Mr. Joey?

He not only looked up rings but he also asked married friends about their rings. After collecting all his data, this is the ring he decided on:

image

I think it is very him. It’s not flashy, but it has a little something special to it. His musician friends told him a Tungsten comfort ring is great for playing bass or guitar. They hardly notice it. His carpenter friend said it takes a beating and still looks great. I think he’s sold, and amazingly this ring is less than we budgeted for. Goodness!!

How did your FI or husband select his ring? Did he ask friends, or did he just try some rings on?

We found FI’s Tungsten on Amazon for $30! It’s really nice, and looks just like the ones we saw at the jewelry store for $300. He loves it!

My fiance has a tungsten ring as well. I think we paid $50! so easy and cheap, and he’s happy as a clam with it.

Mr. M and I went to the same jewelry store he got my engagement ring from for our bands. He found one he liked, and we bought it! It was a pretty simple process!

This ring site was featured on Budget Savvy Bride’s blog a little while ago and my FH was sold on these rings right away. They are a great price and I’ve heard they keep their shine no matter what. Also, if you want to engrave something in them they can for $30 or so.

We picked it out together, but ultimately, the decision was up to him! He kept asking me, well do YOU like it? And I kept telling him, YOU are the one that will be wearing it! Get what you like!

My guy has been told by his friends to get a tungsten ring because you can use it to open beer bottles and it won’t ruin the ring. He likes that it has various functions/uses.

@Miss Red Head: I like the thought that Mr. Joey may have stumbled upon this ring by browsing wedding blogs. He probably didn’t, but that’s the image I’m going to hold on to.

@redbullfanatic: That’s hilarious but I may not share this info with Mr. Joey :)

I don’t know how true this is, but we went to a jeweler (who sells tungsten rings) and they said that while they won’t scratch like, ever, if you drop it onto a hard surface (like a tile floor) it can chip or shatter! Just something to keep in mind - tell Mr. Joey not to take that ring off ;)

Good choice Mr. Joey! Is he raving about the Salk Institute wedding or the Darlington House wedding?

FI bought his Tungsten ring from the same engagement jeweler. Believe it or not, his ring process took a bit longer because of sizing issues. According to the jeweler, gold or platinum rings can be sized, but Tungsten cannot be sized. So, if the ring is too big or small, you have to order a new one. We went through this process 3x, and we just got his ring yesterday, and we’re ready to go next weekend!

My finance honestly selected his ring because the jeweler (apparently) is the one that used to provide the silverware prizes on The Price is Right. Seriously, that’s what really got him excited. Although, to be fair, it is a really nice ring.

My FI hates going shopping so he didn’t want to mess with going to any jewelers, so he just ordered it online, its a simple white gold band, and he got the “comfort fit” since its a more square band then rounded.

When we got it, its SO shiny! He doesn’t really like how shiny it is, but its white gold so it’ll fade over time :)

does anyone worry about a tungsten ring not being able to be removed in the event of a swollen finger emergency? fg likes tungsten but i’m terrified of not being able to cut the ring to get it off if necessary!

We went to look at rings together and brought our bands form the same store. My FI got a Tungsten ring as well.

@fippiebride: It’s a myth that you can’t cut tungsten rings off if the event of an emergency.

Also, what sort of emergency requires a ring to be removed? I mean, I’m sure there are some, but isn’t that like never going near flowers because you might be allergic to bees?

The mister and I really need to finalize our ring decisions soon! I think it’s so cute Mr. Joey searched and picked all by himself! ;-)

Hubby has tungsten too! He loves it. He thinks it feels like a cog wheel from machinery or something, but in a cool way (He likes that kind of thing).

Tungsten carbide is wonderful, we both have rings made of it.

Mr. Nice also picked Tungsten. Here’s a post he wrote about it:

He told me what he was looking for, I found quite a few different styles and he chose one from that. He got a tungsten band with the infinity design etched into it - originally $300 and I got it for $80 :)

Mr. Latte wants a tungsten ring too. It surprised me how picky he was about his ring, but shouldn’t considering how picky I was about mine!

Dear Fi here, posting incognito on M’lady’s profile. I had HER ring custom made from my Grandmother’s band and my aunt’s diamond, very green and very personal.

Well, it was a little different for me. I hate to admit that we went to a large chain store, but we did. As we perused through the rings there was the ooos and aaahhhhs that one is nice… etc etc. and then POW!!

Just like you said, it was very “ME” just a little bit of bling and fit me and my personality perfectly.

Because I have gargantuan hands, we had to special order it. The day I drove down to pick it up, I wore it all day and finally took it off just before bed. I still pull it out of the box once or twice a week. I can’t wait to get to wear it forever!!
