Old-Fashioned Summer Fun

April 26th, 2009 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

As Mr. Bruschetta and I learned during our engagement session, props serve a dual purpose: They give you something to do or hold, allowing you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera, and they make for fun, whimsical pictures.

Since we’ll have time between the ceremony and reception, I’ve got high hopes of capturing bridal party candids in the streets surrounding our reception location. And there will be props.

What kind, you ask?

Anything that epitomizes summer is a possibility. So far, my list includes a jump rope and beach balls… but I’m continuing to brainstorm — and welcome any and all suggestions!

Are you planning on incorporating any props into your wedding pictures?

What about chalk? That way people could write cute messages (like a photobooth) and your can play hopscotch

You could do water guns, although you might not want to put water in them.

What about big, funky sunglasses, a kite, sidewalk chalk, a scooter, bikes, or plastic pails and shovels?

For food props you could also do pitchers/glasses of lemonade, sandwiches, hot dogs, or popsicles. A group shot of everyone in the wedding party eating a popsicle would be really cute. Maybe you could even hunt down an ice-cream truck.

What about…

bubbles
Popsicles
a sprinkler…. okay… maybe not that! :)
a kite

sounds like an awesome idea! My good friend had her wedding in a park and she provided a basket of fun games and things for people to play with. Everyone loved it.

Hahaha, I love the hula hoop idea!

Don’t know how much help I’ll be in the prop department because when I think ’summer’, the next thought which pops into my head is ’slip-n’slide’. :)

How fun! We are getting married on a golf course, so we will definitely be borrowing some golf carts and maybe some clubs. :)

Bubbles! Especially if you could find some “tools” for making the big, person-sized kind.

we had our engagement pictures yesterday and I really wanted to have huge balloons to carry around, but the fiance thought it was stupid and now I regret not doing it. my photographer said it was a cute idea too.

so you can use that idea :)

Oh man, a frisbee! What a great idea.

What about fun candies? A picture of someone blowing a really big pink bubble-gum bubble, or carrying a giant lollipop or eating cotton candy might be fun.

Balloons also sound like a really cool idea. And if you want to go all TTD, there’s always a slip’n’slide. ;-)

Umbrellas make for some really cute pictures. We used one in our engagement shoot even though it didn’t rain (luckily). Our photographer’s assistant thew fall leaves up and our photog. caught them falling on the umbrella but you could do the same with bubbles or rice!

We had fedoras, cowboy hats, glow necklaces and feather boas. Everyone was thrilled and it got them on the dance floor pretty darn fast!

Frisbees,Seashells, Visors, Sun hats/Bonnets(if you want some quirky old-timey photos), Yo-yos, Sand toys(pail,shovel,sand-molds), Giaganto beach umbrellas, ICE CREAM(yummy :p)

What a great idea!

The hula hoops look great in the shot you have here, but I would be that girl in the back who can’t hula. I also like the frisbee suggestion — we play a lot of frisbee — or whatever else you do outside with your friends!
