All Made Up

April 28th, 2009 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

I’ve been looking at a lot of makeup inspiration lately. I have a trial with Katelyn Simkins in Denver in about a month to see if I want to hire her for the big day, and I want to come armed with photos.

Project Wedding’s makeup gallery has been a great source, not only to sift through, but to clip pictures to when I come across looks I like via Googling “red-carpet looks” and “celebrity makeup”. While in the grocery store last week, I was completely mesmerized by Vogue’s May 2009 cover. The girls were glowing from the page, thanks to their dewy, warm, almost natural makeup. Take a look for yourself.

This is the closest I’ve seen to what I’m aiming for (sans Photoshop, of course). I also love that there are so many variations on the looks for different skin/hair/eye colors. Now, if only they could have included a redhead…

Where did you find your makeup inspiration? Please share. I’d love some more resources!

Good ol’ Google. I searched for celebs with my coloring, and found a few red carpet looks that formed the basis of the conversation I had with my makeup pro for my trial!

The make-up in those pictures is beautiful! I like that it is not overdone. Google, the knot and brides have all been helpful

I searched through all the Bees’ previous inspiration blogs. I found all the models/famous people with my hair and eye color and made a pretty inspiration board. Then I forgot it when I went to my makeup trial. Then my MUA made me look…really bad. Like when I was 6 and used to play with my mom’s makeup. So when you find inspiration, DON’T FORGET TO BRING IT!! (Too bad I hadn’t heard of your MUA before I left Denver!)

My inspiration was the celeb that I have heard a few times that I resemble (similar hair and skin color, similar face shape, eyes and mouth). Of course I’d never say that I look like her, but if friends and acquaintances see a resemblance, I’ll take it!

Leighton Meester rocks some gorgeous looks and is never over-the-top - just classy and very “fresh.” I’ve got a folder of different looks on her, so my makeup artist will not be short on inspiration :)

I found our inspiration by just asking around! I ended up at the Laura Mercier counter and love all of it! :)

I had found my wedding inspiration for makeup through personal use. I love dramatic eyes so I brought in pictures of how I do my own makeup on “nights out” and actresses or singers that have dramatic makeup.

A few weeks ago I did a makeup consultation at Sephora. It’s free, they have “real” artists on staff and there’s no hard sell (which is unlike what I’ve experienced at dept. store makeup counters). My MOH came with me and had one done too.

My artist had some MAD skillz and she turned me on to some products and colors I would have never considered/thought of. I told her what I was going for — glam look, late afternoon/early evening wedding, more emphasis on eyes than lips.

Now, I am a longtime makeup fiend and thought I already had some pretty good skills of my own — I always get lots of compliments on my makeup, even from pros. But let me tell you, this woman SCHOOLED me. Taught me how to use brushes I didn’t know even existed. My awesome MOH took notes and lots of pictures.

I’ve been incorporating her “lesson” and new products into my everyday routine and amping it up on nights out. I feel comfortable doing my own makeup but I am SO glad I decided to get this done!
