I Heart Our Wedding Cake

April 28th, 2009 @ 10:57 am by Mrs. Glitter

We finally made the trek to Hansen’s Bakery this weekend to pick out our wedding cake. Hansen’s Bakery holds a special place in my heart because (A) it’s a L.A. landmark (they’ve been in the business for seven generations!), and (B) my mom bought my first birthday cake at Hansen’s. Awwww.

I had two simple criteria going into it. The cake had to look old school and vintage-esque, and it had to taste super yummy. I think we’ve achieved both goals, and I’ll just say that I am in LOVE.

I have a teaser picture of our chosen cake’s “floor model” for you (yes, they had models of their cakes displayed all around the bakery).

I was surprised by how giddy I got about the cake. Honestly, heading into this process, it wasn’t a big deal to me. But I was like a different person in the bakery. You would’ve thought I had won the lottery or something.

Did you surprise yourself and get excited about a planning detail that originally didn’t excite you?

It’s gorgeous! Are the little “dripping” flowers lily of the valley? (If so, that’s my birth flower!)

I’m super excited to see what our invitations will look like — and I’d been so intimated by them for so long, since I’m not amazingly talented with paper and design like some of the other bees!

Oh, that looks beautiful and most definitely vintage! I love the garden roses and lily of the valley flowers! I also like that it’s vintage but not all bright white. It has a creamy glow. Gorgeous!

I’m getting surprisingly giddy about my veil!! I always thought I would just drag some tulle out of the closet, but after finding a veil that was literally MADE for my dress, I’m SO EXCITED!!
PS-Your cake made me hungry.

How did you not pluck off one of those beauties and pop it in your mouth! Sure, since they’re on the model they’ve probably been sitting there for awhile…but I might have been unable to resist. Gorg!

Thanks, ladies, for not making me feel dumb for being obsessed with my cake! :) One interesting thing - before we went for our tasting, I was leaning toward simpler cakes. So, naturally, I end up picking the most detailed, frilly cake I can find…who knew?

I still have no idea what were going to do for our cake, probably something very simple cuz when it comes to the cake I tend to get really overwhelmed

I loooved Hansen’s cakes. Their samples are so tasty, all wrapped in plastic and chilled! They were one of two options for us, and we chose someone else, but oooh, Hansens. How I love thee.

Your cake looks amazing!
