About Mrs. D'orsay

These People Rock!

April 28th, 2009 @ 1:09 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

There are lots of reasons that motivate people to lose weight. For some (like Ash is Fit) it’s a wedding, for others, it’s to be able to play with their soon-to-be born children without getting winded, and for Seth Rogan, it’s to play the Green Hornet. For me? It’s a combination of things. I’m tired of being overweight, and I was blaming my knee surgery for avoiding exercise (it was 2 years ago, I need to get over it). I don’t want my wedding pictures to feature an overweight stranger, and most importantly, I have an audition in June for a local dance company. I want to be back to my fit, healthy, and dancing self.

Here are a few blogs that continue to inspire me:

I first saw Tyler on the Consumerist. I started following his blog, and then I was inspired by him - he’s gone from 344 pounds to 279 pounds in 13 weeks. He writes about his weight loss journey and blogs about his calories, weight, exercise, and everything in between. He even posts pictures about himself and clearly has more cajones than I do. He has run a 1 minute pledge on his blog - for every comment, he promised to work out for 1 minute on the elliptical at level 14 (he ended up with over 90 comments!). Sure, he’s not losing weight for his wedding, but that doesn’t stop him from inspiring me!

My other favorite weight loss blog (which Miss Ballet Flat also loves) is Ash is Fit. I recently checked out her cooking site and tweaked her Chili Bean Burgers. Mr. D (a meat lover) actually begged me to make them again that same week! Ashley has lost almost 80 pounds in 2 years, and was motivated to lose weight for her wedding. I always figure if Ashley can shred levels 2 and 3 back to back, then I can at least do level 1 or 2 back to back.

Of course, no Weddingbee inspiration would be complete without a bit of bee lovin’. Mrs. Avocado continually inspires me as That Wife. A few months ago, I would delete A LOT of pictures of myself - I just really wasn’t satisfied with the way I looked, so I’d delete the photos. A post of hers reminded me that I should keep them so I have some before and after pictures, and that just because I didn’t like the way I looked at something, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

What other bees inspire me? Obviously, there’s Miss Meatball and her Flab to Fab series, and I also Gchat with Miss Ballet Flat daily. She sends me clips of the Biggest Loser, and we gab about our days, diet, and fitness.

I’ve started a weight loss race among my friends, inspired by Budget Beautiful. Instead of starting with 20lbs, we’re shooting for 10lbs, and doing the race in legs, so that the goals are tiny and manageable. Obviously, this race isn’t for people that are at a healthy weight, it’s for people with more than 10lbs to lose. It’s been pretty fun so far. Everyone sends a check-in weight on Friday, and I’m creating little charts for my friends.

What inspires you to be healthy?

Mr. Bruschetta and I are fiercely competitive. We go to the gym separately, but fill each other in afterwards on our workout triumphs — like how much we ran, or how fast, or a new amount of weight we’re able to lift. It’s become a lifestyle change, and it’s definitely NOT just about the wedding…we started getting fit like this while I was 300 miles away in grad school!

I’ve always been an exerciser but finally had to own up to the fact that I needed to change my eating habbits in order to get at those last 10 lbs. It’s not that I eat unhealthy foods, I just eat A LOT.

Miss Snappy’s posts got me thinking about Weight Watchers and after a few messages with her I decided to give it a go. As a bonus, both my mom and sister decided to join with me and we are all having a lot of success.

It was hard at first but after about two weeks I got used to it and it really doesn’t bother me at all now.

Plus I’m dealing with an injury that’s effecting my workouts so it’s extra important to eat well.

I think this post inspired me! I am looking into finding a work out routine that works for me. I’m bad about going to the gym on a regular basis. I bought the 30 day shred. I’m also eating healthier now that school is done.

I have started a blog for weight loss for my wedding too, and even though the wedding is over now, I still post - http://www.becomingafitbride.blogspot.com - it’s got some workouts courtesy of my PT, food recipes, etc. :)

I’m a huge BL fan! That show keeps me going! My goal is not to weigh more than anyone who makes it to the final four! (So far the one to beat is Helen at 162lbs!) I’m still working it. My motivation was my wedding dress. I didn’t want to be stuffed into a “fat bride” dress, as the saleslady was SO eager to do. When I went back for my fitting yesterday, she was shocked I had lost so much! That’s right 13itch!! Now my inspiration is my bikini for the honeymoon (don’t want cottage cheese in my HM photos!) and also my “pregnancy weight.” I want to be at my ideal weight when I get pregnant so my baby has a healthy place to start out. :-)

I just wanted to say that I’m also 5′2 and at my heaviest was 180 lbs. I’m now 135 lbs. I know that if I can do it, you can do it! Congrats on everything.

I love that blog you showed me of the guy from Consumerist. He is very inspirational! I am back in the 240s…only 8 more lbs. until my (mental) wedding goal! I’m excited!

And might I say YAY for you on the weight loss…your results are SUPER impressive!

I am also 5′2″ and about 170… I started working out with a trainer to get healthier. The funny thing is, I look better and I fit in my clothes MUCH better but I haven’t lost any weight. I am a lot more toned than I used to be, but not a skinny as I would like. This inspired me to crack down more on what I’m eating.

Also, I see that you’re vegetarian - so am I, so all my blog’s recipes are all vegetarian!

I think its awesome that you have a buddy system liek with Miss Ballet Flat. I am inspired by my childhood friend. She is constantly motivating me.

Currently she has me hiking two times a week.

I think it really helps to have a buddy. I am constantly full of excuses, so its nice to have soemone to help motivate.

I’m 5′4 - at my highest I was 240lbs 4 yrs ago. I’m now 168 (was 195 in Aug. after a bad knee injury and grad school that keeping me inactive). My goal by my wedding in August is to be 155 - we’ll see….it seems like losing 1-2lbs a week is getting a lot harder!

Good luck with your journey!
