About Mrs. Mascara

Mmm… Delizioso

April 29th, 2009 @ 1:40 pm by Mrs. Mascara

While we still haven’t finalized the menu, we have chosen a caterer and have a general idea of what will be served at our reception. Since Italian food is somewhat of a specialty where we’re from (and a favorite among both of our families), we knew from the beginning that we’d be serving it at our wedding.

(source)

Here’s a sneak peek at our menu! (I will be making the descriptions sound prettier after it’s finalized… if anyone has suggestions on wording, I’d love to hear them!)

Appetizer (if we have one) served during cocktail hour:

  • Thin (as in cracker thin) crust pizza, various kinds

m1

(source)

Salad (plated):

  • Salad (Not sure exactly what exactly is in the salad yet) with homemade Italian dressing
  • Garlic bread

Main course (served buffet style):
Homemade pasta bar which includes

  • Pastas
  • Fettucine
  • Meat and cheese ravioli
  • Gnocchi

(source)

Sauces

  • Red sauce (with meat)
  • Marinara sauce
  • Alfredo sauce

(source)

Meats

  • Italian sausage
  • Baked chicken
  • Meatballs

(source)

Dessert:

  • Cake (flavors yet to be determined)
  • Pizzelles
  • Italian knot cookies (I can’t remember the real name)

(source)

My stomach is growling already. I’m excited to be serving something that is not usually categorized as “wedding food”. I’ve been to a lot of weddings, and none of them have ever served Italian food!

(source)

What do you think of our menu? Are you serving something out of the norm at your reception?

One of my favorite weddings in terms of the food they offered had both a pasta bar (you got a choice of type of pasta, sauce, add ins, etc., and they made it on the spot) and a pierogi bar with all the fixings, for all the Poles in attendence!

Yum! Our RD is Italian cuisine, and I’m so happy about that because it’s my fave! For the wedding, our food is will be a fusion — French and American.

Check out epicurious.com for wording suggestions…though it should be super easy to make your already tasty menu sound as delicious as I’m sure it will be!

We’re doing Italian for our reception, too! Well, Italian/Montana harvest fusion, anyway. I love gnocchi SO much! Your menu looks great!

Yum!

My first friend who got married served Italian food. Better yet, it was family style!

I thought it was FANTASTIC. Some of my friends didn’t like the family style approach, but weddings are about family, right? Why not?

I still remember passing around the platter of italian sausage–and the wedding was eight years ago. ;)

Best Wishes!

That all looks delicious, but I must admit I’m a little sad you aren’t having my favorite UP food—pasties!

@Cole B: I’ve been thinking of how I can add in pasties somehow. My latest thought has been mini pasties served as a late night snack? We shall see. BTW, I am so impressed that you actually know what pasties are! Here’s the true test… how do you pronounce the word pasty? :)

That sounds sooo delicious. I have a serious weakness for Italian food.

That sounds great! But just so you know, salad is supposed to be served at the end of Italian meals, not at the beginning!

Yum! Everything sounds so good! I’ve never been to a wedding with Italian food, but this is what we almost did, but our small budget lead us elsewhere.

Mmmmm.. That does look good!

We’re serving vegan soul food “ribs”, mac ‘n cheez, cornbread, greens… And of course, wedding cobbler for dessert. Don’t know if we take the cake on out there wedding food… RD is going to be Transylvanian, just because who eats transylvanian food??

This post made me soooo hungry, Love Italian food and I think it’s cool that you are breaking away from the chicken, beef, or fish limitations of most weddings.

Your menu sounds amazing! I love Italian food, I feel like many people shy away from it for weddings because of red sauce, but if I didnt have catering as a art of my venue, I would definitely consider italian!

Your menu sounds yummy! We are doing an Italian station at our wedding. It will have antipasto, pizza, and pasta with three sauce options. We’re also serving ravioli as our vegetarian option. My FI is Italian, so I wanted to make sure we had food that represented him.

@Miss Mascara: I really hope you get this, I didn’t think to check back, maybe I’ll pm you. Pasties are pronounced pah-sties (not like the nipple covers-ick!) AND my favorite are @ Lehto’s just west of the Mackinac Bridge on 2
AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of little pasties, I have Lehto’s recipe if you need one
