Remember the gorgeous green heels I (sadly) left in the Nordstrom shoe department? Well, as soon as I returned home from my failed shopping excursion, I clicked over the Nordstrom website, and searched.
A promising option appeared that I hadn’t seen in the store: “Devon”, by Glint, a peep toe slingback, in a variety of color options, including black, burnt orange, champagne, and silver. I decided on the champagne, but when I tried to select this color, it wasn’t available in the drop-down box.
Since I’d heard wonderful things about the customer service at Nordstrom, I visited the store to ask about the elusive shoes. With the help of an attentive salesman, I learned that… the internet was out of these champagne heels. Um, what?!
~~~ Mr. Bruschetta, please stop reading now! ~~~
Fortunately, we were able to locate a pair in California, and for no charge, arranged to have them shipped to me. My gown has a semi-asymmetrical train that will need a special bustle, so determining the exact heel height before beginning alterations was a necessity — and the package arrived with just days to spare before my first fitting.
I was incredibly anxious as I opened the box and examined the shoes. And, I later realized, I was actually holding my breath as I slipped them on — if they were the slightest bit uncomfortable, I knew I wouldn’t want to wear them for the wedding. I eased my tired toes into the shoes… and couldn’t believe how comfortable they were! Usually, dress shoes bite, nip and cut into my toes and heels; these shoes, though, weren’t bugging my feet in the least.
I’m considering myself quite lucky: These were only the third pair of shoes I purchased — I’ve since returned the other two — and I’m totally sold on my cute, comfy, wedding-appropriate heels.
(Inspired by Anne Ruthman’s super helpful ring picture post, I figured shoes should get in on the photo fun. I walked along Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill — just down the road from the high school where Mr. Bruschetta and I fell for each other — and selected one of the cherry trees lining the street [seriously, they’re all along both sides of the road!] for my first shot. I must have looked pretty goofy, balancing my brand new heels on the thick branches, and then practically bending over backwards beneath them to capture the shot. So, for my next shot, I kept it simple: the piano at my parents’ house provided the background, and the early evening sun streamed into the room, giving me the ideal natural lighting. Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s tried to get creative with wedding shoe photos!)
I recently had the first true test of shoe comfort (standing completely still for what felt like an hour) at my initial dress fitting (more details coming, I promise!) — and though I might consider adding some Foot Petals to the party, I’m thrilled the slingback style’s allowing my feet to be super comfy!
Are you adding any inserts to make your wedding shoes more wearable? Have you used Foot Petals in the past? If so, which cushion do you recommend?
