Another Project

April 30th, 2009 @ 6:22 pm by Mrs. Mascara

Please excuse me for not writing an interesting post today. You see, I was busy all night making one of these.

A 20’ long teal taffeta table runner (how’s that for alliteration?). One down, twenty more to go. They are kind of a pain to make, but look at how shiny they are! Please excuse the random threads, the fabric frays easily so I need to clean up the edges.

Here’s a rough mock-up of what they’ll look like on our tables, except the table will be twice as long and all of the chairs will be white.

The flowers will also be different. These were just leftovers I had around the house.

What do you think? Are you planning to make your own table runners?

i found them super cheap online, so i’m buying them myself… actually i decided to do organza overlay instead because that’s actually what was super cheap (putting it over white table cloths that are already provided)

@Soon2BeeMrsLewis: where did you find them? I’ve been thinking about table runners or overlays.

Me likey :) Good job Mascara!! Its going to look nice. We’re doing black tablecloths with different shades of blue either table runners or overlays (depending on what shape table we get).

Your ambitious! We are using chair sashes as table runners at our reception. Only $1 a piece, so I couldn’t pass it up!

I love it…it’s blue & shiny!!!! Beautiful! We just talked earlier today about having long tables instead of rounds for our wedding…but I can’t sew to save my life. My mum is excellent with a Singer though so thanks for the inspiration!!

Love that shade of blue, it’s so beautiful and rich. I don’t have sewing skills, but seeing that sure makes me wish I did!

OMG, I did just this for my wedding. SOOOO much work because of the fabric I chose. At the end, we used super glue for some of them. I had dark brown, turned out super nice.

I am doing the same thing - I have purchased the fabric already, but have tackled cutting them yet. How did you cut them to make sure they are all straight?

I have 16″ tables so they are going to be some LOOONG runners too!

@Eva: I’m making three runners out of each width of fabric, which means they are 15″ wide runners (they end up being 14″ after sewing the hem). First, I unfolded the fabric and cut it to the correct 20′ length. I left the fabric folded in half width-wise (making sure the edges were aligned by pinning them together). Then I put my cutting mat underneath and measured 15″ up from the bottom edge. I used a quilting ruler as a straight-edge and a rotary cutter to cut the fabric, and kept moving the fabric until I had cut the whole length, making sure to measure 15″ up from the edge every time so it stayed straight. Not sure if that makes sense, but I can post a tutorial eventually if it will help.

They look great!! :) I was going to make mine, but since mine were a standard size, I just bought them online for $4 each.

Those are pretty!! I’m planning on renting mine at the moment…unless I can find the material cheap enough then I’ll definitely make my own (very handy with a sewing machine) or find some online to buy maybe??!
