Scantron Time

scantro

Okay hive, take out those #2 pencils, it’s scantron time! Keep your eyes on your own monitor and take your time answering these questions. There are no wrong answers!

Question #1:

A girl and boy (but mostly girl) hunt for pink suspenders for the boy, his 4 friends (let’s call them his “men”) and his 2 little “men”. They finally find them from suspendease, and quickly purchase 7: 1 adult size in dark pink, 4 adult sizes in light pink, and 2 child sizes in dark pink. Upon receipt of the suspenders, the boy tries them on and is left confused. (See girl’s co-worker/model, aka Exhibits A and B, below.)

Do you think the girl and boy should choose:

Question #2:

The same girl and boy also hunt for ties for the same (lucky) “men”. They search for a tie that would tie (hehe) in well with the men’s BLACK tuxes, pink suspenders and the chocolate brown dresses of the girl’s friends (aka “maids”). The girl (yet again!) finds a striped tie (on sale!) from Banana Republic that may just work! She likes that the tie’s predominant color is chocolate brown, and thinks that the stripes are formal enough for a big party they are hosting.

She is unsure, however, if the brown and pink will clash horribly with the black tuxes.

suspenders, tie, dress, tux

Do you think the brown/pink tie and black tux work?

If you answered C (or A or B) to any of the above questions, please explain below. Thanks!

I think both of the suspenders will work really well! I’m not so sure about the brown/pink/black tux combo though…:/. May a different fun colored tie that didn’t have neutrals in it would be a good alternative?

So I accidentally clicked “no” for question #2 but I meant yes!

I think you need a solid color tie. There’s so much going on. And I just hate brown and black together. Sorry. :(

I like the look of the thin suspenders. The thick ones remind me of what older men wear to actually hold up their pants, while the thin ones remind me of guys in the club.

As for the tie I would look for a plain black or pink personally. I just can’t get over the brown with the black. Sorry I’m not much help!

Most fun test I’ve ever taken! ;)
At first I was going to say no to question #2 because I usually hate brown with black, but the more I pictured it the more I felt confident it would work! I think you have to have brown in the ties to tie in your bridesmaid dresses!
Oh and definitely the thinner suspenders!

I think brown and black go well together as long as the brown is a dark one. For the men in our bridal party we are doing black tuxes with a black shirt, dark chocolate vest and matching tie. It looks very sharp on them.

I think the tie/suspender/tux idea would work as a color combo, but I wonder if the striped ties and pink suspenders wouldn’t be a little busy. I voted that I thought they would work, but it would be good to see it on the “model.”

do you already have the tuxes? I fell in love with some new brown tuxes that are available this year

Thanks for your input!
@MissLadyTay: Any suggestions for a color for that solid tie? We were going to go with brown to match the BMs but it looked horrible with the pink suspenders. I’m thinking that the combo may be OK because noone will ever see the entire pink suspenders/tie/jacket combo all together. You’ll either see the tie and jacket, or the tie and suspenders.
@April: We actually thought of going with a pink solid…but I’m not really feeling that much pink for them.

I would find a tie with pink, brown and black in it to tie it all together.

I think if the men are all fairly lean then definately the thin suspenders. Also for the ties why not get a pink tie that has black in it so it isnt a solid pink tie and will work with the black suit.

To me, the thick suspenders make the model’s shoulders look so much smaller. It could be his posture though.

1. A (Thick)
2. A (Yes!) I figure, Tuxes go with everything, right? It’s kind of the ultimate “look good with everything” outfit?

I totally think you can do the brown and black together. Are they wearing a white or pink shirt!? I say you could totally do an all pink tie. We got one for Mr. PT at Pink that is actually pink with some white!? Just an option. Oh, and he’s wearing a pink shirt too.

Love the idea of brown and pink, but agree with previous posts about solid colors for the ties — or at least a more subtle pattern?

Black and brown are both neutral- they go together perfectly! Doesn’t anyone watch fashion shows?

Are the guys wearing vests? I think the tie & suspenders go fab together, but am not a fan of the black tux with them… Maybe because I’m just not a fan of black tuxes? *lol* (what about a brown tux?)

I really like the thin suspenders, the bold line is too strong and dominant. Super cute choice with having suspenders by the way. With question number two, the tie is cute but is too neutral for the black tux. I had a similar problem with the fact that black isn’t one of the wedding colors, so I bought a tie that had black in it so it would “tie”-sorry- the tux in with the rest of the colors of the wedding. If the tie had some black it would be perfect. Or if you got a tie that was solid chocolate or something? I don’t know if I helped. It is all imho.

Love the thin suspenders but they seem to sit weird on the dude’s shoulders. It looks like a halter top. :) BUT that may be how they look - I dunno.

My wedding colors are pink and brown too and I have grown to love the brown and black together. I think the brown and black combination catches people a little off guard at first. But that’s because brown and black could either be awkward and taboo or totally chic. Our groomsman are wearing black tuxes with brown vests and ties and the groom will wear a black tux with a pink tie to set him apart. (Bridesmaids will be in brown dresses.) I say, go with your gut instinct. If you like the pink and brown with black tuxes, do it! :)

@KM: Stacy and Clinton just talked about that the other day… I watch ;-)
I voted yes on the ties going… I think they go great :)

@brighteyes6608: Haha! It is probably his posture. I accosted him as soon as he stepped foot into my office and basically threw the suspenders on him. He was pretty caught off guard. :) But you make a good point…the thick ones tend to block him out a bit.
@Miss Peep Toe: They’ll be wearing white shirts. I really wanted to keep brown as the primary color, and pink as an accent. I will check out Pink! Although for 4 guys, it may be way too pricey for us.
@KM & @Miss French Bulldog: Yes, Stacy and Clinton do mention that quite often. I should’ve paid better attention. Thanks for the reminder.
@NixLapi: Nope, no vests. I have yet to find a brown tux that I like…any suggestions?
@august2009: Haha Sorry!!! Congrats on finishing though!
@Vic004: Great point. I think I will try to look for a brown tie with hints of pink and black. I just wonder how hard it would be to find something like that.
@grumpybear722: They do look funny! It’s because they’re the kid sized suspenders. The “X” in the back is literally digging into the back of his neck in the picture, which is why he’s pulling them down in the front.
@bri the bride: Brother Latte’s GMs wore brown vests and ties with black tuxes and they looked GREAT together!!! I don’t know why, but the vests just tied it all together. And we seem to have a similar color scheme… :)

Hate to say it, since the tie by itself is awesome, but I just don’t think I’m feeling the black/brown combo, along with the pink. It’s a lot going on!

I think you need solid–brown or pink. My FI wore a brown tie with a black tux and it actually looked great (their bridesmaids were in brown, too).

OR, if you want a stripe, how about ivory and pink? It could mute the bright pink color while keeping the vibrant shade, and still look good with tux and suspenders.

Calvin Klein has brown tuxes. . .why not go with those? It would look much better with the brown dresses.

I like the thin suspenders a lot, and I’m sure I don’t have to say this, but please don’t wear them with a belt.

I only have a strong opinion on question 1. Thin is the way to go.

There’s something about thick suspenders that make me think of paunchy old men. Like Fred Mertz from I Love Lucy.
Thin is modern, sophisticated and a little bit trendy. Gotta give it to the thin!

Do a more taupe color than brown and it’s doable - otherwise, too much clashing.

A solid color tie. Champagne won’t clash with the tux but will compliment the colors the girls are wearing.

As far as the suspenders go, I think either would work fine…just close your eyes and choose one!

With the brown/black issue though, I actually had the same dilemma last month! The ladies are all wearing chocolate brown dresses, and the gents are wearing brown slacks/white shirts. We eventually went with a chocolate brown tux for my mister.

Keep the white shirts, though. I made the mistake of holding an ivory shirt against white just to see how it would look with my dress. *shudder* looked downright dirty. However, brown with white looks awesome!

Can you do chocolate brown suits instead of tuxes?

Hey girl, its your friend, Fuego.
I disagree. I’ve been at weddings with Brown with Black tuxes and I think it actually looked REALLY SHARP…ie your bro’s wedding. Brown tuxes? no way. If the only thing that you will see is the tie and the jacket, I think it will look fine. You have to imagine that if its hot, then the guys will take their jackets off and they’ll be wearing the suspenders ( my preference is the thin ones) and the tie with black pants. I think it will be fine. I like the tie…maybe you should consider brown suspenders….too late?

MISS YOU!
