Mrs. Ballet Flat's Picture
Mrs. Ballet Flat, New Orleans Age and Occupation: 24, Geographic Information Systems Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, IT Analyst Engagement Date: March 16, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 25, 2008 Venue: St. Charles Borromeo Church/Jefferson-Orleans North About Me: I absolutely love wedding planning, spending time with Mr. Ballet Flat, various crafts, watching football, baking, pop music, bargain hunting and ice cream. My idea of a great date night is dinner and clearance shopping with Mr. Ballet Flat! I currently live below sea level in the suburbs near New Orleans, where I make maps all day, everyday for my job. I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with anything New Orleans related for our wedding, and I can't wait for the big day!
About Mrs. Ballet Flat

Thanks for the Memories!

April 30th, 2009 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

One of the biggest things about a wedding are the memories. My photographer told me she is going to take hundreds of pictures of the big day. Hundreds? I don’t think I have a Facebook album from an event with hundreds of pictures! Heck, in my college days, I thought I took too many pictures… but this just takes the cake (in a good way)!

Well, since I’ve heard from so many former brides that the day just flies by and you don’t really see it all, I decided we should ask for more perspectives from our guests.

So, Mr. BF and I were on the look-out for the infamous disposable cameras. We didn’t care if they said wedding on them, because we are going to have cards on the table explaining what they are for anyway!

So, in our adventures to Target, we found a bunch on clearance for half off. Even better, they are good for action shots. I know our families will be going nuts on the dance floor, so this will be great to capture those random moments (just in case my photographer has too much to capture on her own… you never know with my family, trust me!).

I decided to pretty them up with some invitation scrap paper and pretty ribbon I found at Michael’s. I also Goccoed on some Martha Stewart teal-ish looking “recipe cards”. They will make great cards on the table, in my opinion, and were on clearance for $1! SCORE!

Here’s a picture of the two put together. It’s a little hard to see in this picture, but there is small ribbon tied on the side for people to hold the cameras on their wrists, if they want. I thought it was a cute touch, since the cameras already had the holes in the side for it!

Oh wait! I’m not done. I stole this idea from Mrs. Cream Puff. I decided to make a Flickr account for our guests to share photos from their digital cameras. And like so many bees, I decided to make Moo minicards to give guests the message. I put our engagement pictures on the cards, with the message about the Flickr account on the other side. These cards are super cute! I love how they came out!!

To make it budget friendly, I found a code online for 20% off. I’m not sure if it’s valid anymore, but if you google “moo cards coupon code”, you might get lucky!

Are you asking your guests to share some of the memories they captured of your big day?

It seems odd that they had disposable film cameras on clearance unless the film is about to expire. It’s something you might want to check out - there should be an expiration date printed somewhere on the camera. Expired film can have some interesting effects, but it may or may not be what you’re looking for.

I am totally planning on doing the Moo photo cards with our epics too, but probably won’t go the disposable route since most people have digitals. Love the idea of using ribbon so people can put the camera on their wrists!

When I first started thinking about reception plans, having disposable cameras at every table topped the list of must-haves!

I just wanted to throw this out there re: the cameras. Have you considered assigning a task/type of photo to each table (or per two tables?). I would just think people would take many of the “same” photos (and how unfun is 20 of the exact same photo that your photographer probably already captured well) . So, if you assigned them like, table 1 &12: kissing photos, 2 & 13: photos of speeches, 3 & 14: decor and design, etc.? Just a suggestion!

We are going to do the Moo cards but I’ve heard too many bad things about disposable to make the investment. I’ve always thought it was a good idea, but then my friends have told me they’ve gottne plenty of dirty pics when people are trying to be funny, as well as accidental shots. They’ve also said the cameras are about only 1/2 done at the end of the night so then they have to take more pictures and pay for the developing and it wasn’t worth it.

I think I’ll most likely be hopping on the bee-moo-cards-of-e-pics-with-photo-sharing-info train — it’s getting pretty crowded on there, but it’s a super idea!

I did the moo’s with the photo website on the back! It is an awesome idea! So worth the $20 for the moo’s!

If your cameras don’t get used up all the way, I’m pretty sure you still have then developed only partially used. That way you don’t have to take a million pictures of things you don’t care about. If you take them to Wal-mart you can stand at the photo counter and go through your photos before you buy them. You aren’t obligated to pay for any you don’t want like accidentals, finger over the flash, etc. You just give them back to the photo person and they throw them away, then adjust the price. Just something to keep in mind!

@laurajane: That’s a good idea, but I’d rather not assign our guests to take pictures of something, because they are supposed to just have fun. I’d rather just let them take pictures whenever. I’m sure there will be tons of pictures of one thing, but it’s a chance to take with these cameras. :)

I love the moo card idea too. Will they print the flickr info for you on the other side, or are you doing that yourself?

@kr: Yes, on the other side, they will print text, so we have the Flick’r information on that side. :)
