About Mrs. Gloss

As of my “Who Scheduled Hurricane Season on My Honeymoon” post #2, we were leaning towards somewhere a little ‘closer to home’… this location tentatively being Western Mexico. It was priced right, had great resorts and gorgeous beaches, and since it’s located on the Pacific side, it is supposedly ‘outside’ of the hurricane zone. Plus, I love me some margaritas. :)

Check out the St. Regis @ Punta de Mita – In the words of Tina Fey, “I want to go to there…” (really really bad!!)

Who Scheduled Hurricane Season During My Honeymoon? Part 3 : wedding honeymoon Stregis

I even bought the perfect oversized floppy beach hat from Urban Outfitters. (It’s even more floppy in real life.) Who Scheduled Hurricane Season During My Honeymoon? Part 3 : wedding honeymoon Floppy
And now (and probably then too, but it was less publicized) there is a Swine Flu outbreak. So, I fully declare that this is NOT fair. Not only do I have to deal with hurricane season, but swine flu, as well?

Has anything thrown your honeymoon off course?

Mr. Mary Jane and I were considering Mexico too. My mom’s been there and didn’t have a very good time, so she’s been occasionally dropping hints/comments to dissuade us for months. Now the swine flu is definitely “on her side”!

Love the hat as well! We’re booked for Playa del Carmen… so that pesky swine flu needs to get the heck outta there!

@Miss Mary Jane:
(Disregarding the swine flu for a moment…)
It really depends where you go in Mexico. I have been to Mexico 3 times and I had an amazing time every time. My favourite was the Mayan Riviera– there is just so much to do and see; you can never get enough! I have also been to Cuba and the Bahamas, but I found Mexico to be the best consistently.

Our honeymoon is actually booked in ixtapa/zihuatanejo for mid september. I think the time you have in Mexico is completely dependent on the location. I ahted Cancun during spring rbeak, but loved it off-peak, and LOVED western Mexico. Now this whole drug war (although near the border) and swine flu talk has us worried and thinking of travelers insurance or even rebooking altogether. Not for the fear of catching the flou (lets be honest, media is totally blowing it out of proportion) but out of fear that non-essential travel might be prohibited…what are you thinking of doing?

Regarding this post, the last three vacations I’ve been on have been during hurricane season, but we were lucky enough that we dodged the hurricanes each time. When we went to Cuba, we had to check the weather channels every morning for news about the hurricane. Luckily it passed to the North of where we were so we only got thunderstorms one day, but not the hurricane. When we went to Mexico, we arrived the week after the hurricane passed. So the staff was busily cleaning up all the mess, but at least we didn’t have to suffer through the hurricane! I realize not everyone is that lucky but sometimes things just work out. :)

Oooh…I need to get myself a hat like that for my honeymoon!

I hope everything with the swine flu settles down by the time your honeymoon rolls around. I bet that the Mexican travel industry will really be hurting and by August, there will be some incredible deals! Good luck!

First of all, love the hat. Word of advice: If you’re going to go on a catamaran… don’t take it. Learned this the hard way and lost my favorite hat.
Secondly, I totally feel for you. But why don’t you try something like Costa Rica/Belize/Argentina. It could be fun and cost effective!

Mmm. Floppy hats. My sister and I are planning a girls trip with our friends to somewhere beachy in the next 2 years and we’ve all pledged to buy awesome floppy hats to wear while we’re there. So cute!

OMG!!! I am dealing with the same decisions. We are tentatively going to Puerto Vallarta. But, we are looking at other places now. I don’t know what to do because people are walking around all the tourist parts of Mexico with mask. I don’t want to honeymoon with a mask. What other places are you considering?

We were thinking of going to Cabo… hopefully the swine flu will be gone by that time. And I love that hat- floppy hats are perfect for me and my fair-easily burned skin. :)

absolutely love the hat! i so need one for our honeymoon (next week!!!).

i ditto the other posts that suggest looking into another location. you dont want to spend the time leading up to your trip worried about hurricanes and pandemics. i lived in costa rica for awhile and they have some of the most amazing beaches ive ever seen, plus its very romantic - i highly recommend it! also, ive heard the DR and puerto rico are nice options as well.

I’m going home to San Diego. And there’s AH1N1 there, so I guess I wouldn’t worry about Mexico. Just wash your hands!
