The Chicago Weddingbee crew had a wonderful night last week! Miss Mascara, Mrs. Emerald, and I met up with readers LatteLove, yogigal, hellopanda, Rinstar, msbelgianian and eileen marie. What an awesome group! We swapped planning and other stories over wine and pizzas, and just had an overall great night.
I think I speak for all of us when I say - can’t wait to do it again! For those of you who missed it, we will plan another meet-up in the summer. Nothing says summer in Chicago better than al fresco dining!
Without further ado, the group!

I gotta tell you, I am getting really excited about our wedding, and the big reason behind that is our playlist. It’s pretty freaking cool. And by cool I mean totally cheesy and goofy - you know, just like us. Our hope is that the night will be filled with, “Oh, my gawd I LOVE this song!”

Really, how can you NOT have a great time at a wedding when Wham and Toto are on the playlist? Most of the credit goes to the mister, who was born about a decade too late. Ready? Here goes…
{They’re not organized in any way, just listed in the order they occurred to us.}

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I am a photography newbee (heh heh). I just point my pretty pink camera towards the subject, press the button, and pray that the picture comes out clear. Mr. Latte, on the other hand, really enjoys photography and is always on the hunt for new lenses and other fancy-shmancy equipment for his camera. So when it came time to find the photographer for our wedding, I left the big decision up to him.
He did a very extensive search of photographers in the greater NYC area and found the super talented Todd Laffler of Laffler Photography. Mr. Latte and Todd spoke over the phone, and after bonding over skateboarding, we booked him right away. Check out his work and you’ll see why!
We love the vibrancy of the colors in his photos. The colors in this picture just POP!
I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for my guy in a suit or a tuxedo. I definitely enjoyed the eye candy on days when Mr. Deviled Egg wore a suit for work or when his groomsman duties put him in a tux in the two weddings he was in most recently.

I’m pretty sure it won’t matter too much what style tuxedo Mr. DE ends up wearing on our wedding day—I’m sure I’ll think he looks good no matter what. But, we still needed to make a decision on his attire.
This weekend, Mr. DE and I visited a tuxedo rental shop to explore his options and figure out some things.

Well, hive, I’ve narrowed it down to three choices for my lovely ladies. You see, I just don’t have a vision of what I want them all to look like, which is making it really hard for me to pick out a dress. What I do know is that I want the girls to feel like themselves, to want to wear the dress again (I know!), and to get it in a color that suits everyone. You’ve seen the J. Crew and Watters trial. Then you saw the custom dress maker that I heart. Now I present to you my three delectable options.
But, first, let me share some color inspiration with you (peach, dusty rose, pink, and gold).

I hate that my parents live so far from me, but I love how easily mom and I can communicate by e-mail. My mom and I spent a lot of time emailing dress links back and forth on the day immediately following my unsuccessful dress-shopping outing. I was trying to find a vintage, modern, sophisticated, or cute dress to wear for the simple parents-only civil ceremony we’re planning.
My mom was on her best “mom” behavior: she vetoed what she thought wouldn’t look good on me, what she thought was trendy or odd, and anything she just plain didn’t like. On one hand, this was rather annoying (I mean, it’s my style and my wedding, right?). But on the other hand, it was helpful. Mom was trying to help me find a dress that would look good not just on the day of our wedding, but also in our photos for years to come. See, my mom doesn’t go crazy with seasonal clothes. Instead she buys classic, simple pieces that outlast the trends and fads. Mom gave the thumbs down to my lacy tiers and my shutter-pleats, instead steering me toward simple ivory a-line and empire styles.
Soon I had several Firefox tabs open, each one containing a dress from Nordstrom, Macy’s or J.Crew. Some were of mom’s choosing, some were mine, and others were dresses we both agreed on. I decided to start my ordering frenzy with Nordstrom’s. I had six promising Nordstrom options but no Nordstrom store within 250 miles. Lucky for me, they were offering free shipping! Even luckier: no Nordstrom stores are located in my state (so no sales-tax). I added all six dresses to my cart, then carefully combed their return policy at least three times before making the most expensive clothing order I’ve ever placed in my life.
The dresses took what seemed like forever to arrive. The order I placed on Thursday finally shipped on the following Tuesday. Soon after that, my dear Mr. Mary Jane received this at his office:

Normally, brides hope for a wedding day free of theatrics. But, when I marry Mr. Bruschetta, I’ll actually be hoping for a bit of flair. See, our priest teaches in the Department of Theatre at Villanova University — and once spent four years working as a professional actor in New York City.
Father David and I became friendly during my junior and senior years. We both love exercising, and often debated news and current events. We share an obsession with Banana Republic, and it was actually following Father David’s recommendation that Mr. Bruschetta purchased his now-beloved Doc Martens. He’s just really not your typical Catholic priest.
Here we are following the Baccalaureate mass the day before graduation.

I’m in LOVE with my bridal party. They’re all just as gung-ho as I am about the wedding planning! Two of my girls are already married, and a third will be married by the time my wedding rolls around. This means I get to learn from their experiences for free! Who needs a wedding planner?!?
Anyways, I’ve already told them that I want the theme of our wedding to be “Romantic Southern Charm”. In keeping with that theme, we’d like a sort of upscale take on Southern comfort food, but without the upscale price.
Well, my soon to be sister-in-law, Leslie, called a while back to let me know she did some searching of local caterers (she lives in my host city, Savannah). She found out that Paula Deen’s (you may know her from the Food Network) restaurant The Lady & Sons is actually very affordable. We can get the Southern Buffet delivered to my site for $18.99 a head plus tax. We pick from 3 meats and 4 sides (including mac and cheese, my fave). We would also get cheese biscuits, one choice of 3 dessert options, and tea (sweet & unsweetened). We can also get fancy chafing dishes and hire their servers if we wish.
I think this is an amazing price, considering The Knot.com has our suggested per-person food cost at nearly $60 a head. The only thing missing is seafood. Mr. Lab loves seafood, and because our wedding will be on the coast, it’s only appropriate to have some. So Leslie even sent them an email and asked how much more it would be to add items like crab cakes and the shrimp and grits.

This weekend, my FMIL hosted my first bridal shower. I knew she was bringing gifts for all the guests, and since I wasn’t sure what the proper etiquette was, I decided to get quick gifts together for all the guests, as well. Since the shower had a “tea party” theme, I thought a tea-themed gift would be appropriate. I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday to pick up some paper bags, which were kind of expensive… and I also found some at Target, which were really cheap.

Usually there are two criteria that must be met for me to find a LOL-cats image to be funny:
I don’t know. I think I’ve seen the picture above a hundred times and it still makes me chuckle.
Plus, anteaters are surprisingly cuddly. I never imagined that an anteater would be fuzzy, but they’re adorable. I kind of want one as a pet. We could even team up and have our own natural extermination company. That would guarantee some wacky hijinks, which are better than plain hijinks, which are kind of pathetic after a certain age. Man, now I need to go to the zoo this weekend and see if I can bribe the zoo keepers into letting me hold one. I am a bad pet owner, but I love weird animals!

Happy Monday, everyone! Can you guess by the title of this post where we decided to go on our honeymoon? That’s right - Ireland!
Mr. Quiche had an email alert that direct, round-trip flights on Aer Lingus were around $350! Cheaper than flying to L.A. from Montego Bay! We did some checking around, and similar flights on American were just a little bit more, so we decided to book with them in order to beef up our air miles (score!).
We’re flying in and out of Dublin, but are planning a trip through the countryside after a 2 night stay in Dublin. Mr. Q has a friend who travels to Dublin frequently and recommended The Westbury Hotel.

Well, the inevitable has happened. I made my first major bridal blunder. And boy, was it a doozy!
It has to do with our invitations. I have slaaaaaved over these things night and day. Stared at them for hours. Nitpicked over every detail—the fonts, the wording… everything! The day I finally printed them, I dashed over to Mr. Powder Puff to show him the baby I had birthed after many long hours of painful labor. After probably 2 seconds of looking it over, he asked a simple, fundamental question.
“Why didn’t you put the address on them?”
Um, what?!
The fatal error. I’ll reveal the full design when they arrive in our guests’ mailboxes.
