Mrs. Perfume, DCAge and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, ConsultantEngagement Date: May 13, 2008Wedding Date: May, 2009Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, VirginiaAbout Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
I love Weddingbee because everyone is just so nice. I get great advice and suggestions about everything from Fray Check for my ring pillow, to figuring out a better florist situation, to ideas on invitation designers (you readers are the reason for my invitations)!
And every so often, I’ll get a PM or a comment from a reader who thought of me for some reason. Like, reader, mrspaetz sent me a link (on my post on photography no less) to a great pair of shoes, citing how the pale blue and deco design made her think of me. So. Nice! Read more…

A Yooper girl somehow displaced in the Chicago suburbs, planning a wedding from a distance, and counting down the days until I marry my best friend.
I have no clue what song we will dance to for the first time as husband and wife. I have no idea what song I’ll walk down the aisle to in the last moments before we get hitched. The only song that I have written into the little Excel spreadsheet that is our playlist is for the father-daughter dance.
Before getting engaged, I had always imagined my dad and I dancing to “Daughters” by John Mayer. I’ve always loved John Mayer, and I think that the song is perfect for a wedding dance with daddy. Bonus points are in order as well for it not being overdone and overplayed. I thought for sure this was the song that we’d be playing for the father-daughter dance.
That is, until my dad mentioned that he’d really like to dance to “It’s a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. At first, I didn’t know what to think. Of course, it’s a classic song for the occasion, but this song has some history for my family. Read more…
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/SavannahAge and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports ReporterFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT
Engagement Date: December 31, 2008Wedding Date: November 2009Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah StationAbout Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
I have a confession. I didn’t come up with our wedding theme of “Southern Romantic Charm” all by myself. The truth is, the city of Savannah did most of the work. How could anyone have anything BUT a romantic, Southern wedding in that city?!?
Our choice of venues reflects our theme perfectly. For our ceremony, Mr. Lab and I chose the charming Whitfield (or Whitefield) Square in historic downtown.
How gorgeous is this?!?
It has this cute white gazebo right in the middle that will be the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. It’s also on a residential block, so we won’t have to worry about tons of ugly office buildings in the background. The first time I ever visited Savannah, I knew I would get married on this square one day. Read more…
Mrs. Glitter, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 27, Research Consultant/WriterFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, AccountingEngagement Date: May 6, 2007Wedding Date: June, 2009Venue: Millenium Biltmore HotelAbout Me: I was born and raised in West Los Angeles, California. I spent eight years in the Northeast working and completing my education. Having split time between two sides of the country has given me a true appreciation for both coasts. It has also provided an overabundance of cross country drives, flights and long distance relationship fun/misery! I love my family, my doggy Emma, fabulous wine, Anthropologie, politics, reading, being outdoors, exploring new cities, and good movies! My fiance and I are complete opposites, but somehow we have managed to fall completely and hopelessly in love.
I’m not well-versed when it comes to buying bras. I usually wear the same Calvin Klein or Gap Body underwire bras I’ve been buying since college. Which leads me to my next wedding-related challenge. Allow me to be frank with you, hive. The “girls” will need some wedding day enhancement. They aren’t the biggest girls in the world, and I’d like for them to really fill out my dress.
(CAUTION: Anyone reading at work, there are undergarment-related photos ahead…)
Here are some of the options I am exploring.
Victoria’s Secret Seamless Bustier: A simple multi-tasker (holds in the tummy, too). It seems low maintenance and easy enough for me to handle.

Mrs. Hot Cocoa, Boston/Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 31, JD/PhD StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Medical StudentEngagement Date: May 30, 2008Wedding Date: March, 2009Blogging Since: April, 2008Venue: Ritz Carlton, Marina Del ReyAbout Me:
I am a professional student by day and an amateur cupcake taster, bargain shopper, and wedding planner by night. I am obsessed with NPR, the Food Network, paper, dance shows, Anthropologie, post-structuralist theory, Weddingbee!, "The Office," and celebrity gossip. When not procrastinating from my dissertation, I spend time catering to Jellyby, our overly anxious shih tzu, and getting to know Mr. Hot Cocoa. We have only been dating for fifteen years, so it's like I'm in love with a stranger! From the East Coast, we are planning a Jewish-Chinese Extravaganza in L.A., where we both grew up.
Jellyby, our shih tzu, is 50% sweetheart, 25% spoiled princess, and 25% psycho. When she’s with people, she’s all sunshine and lollipops: loving, gentle, and happy.
But dog forbid she gets left at home by herself.
Without company, she becomes completely unhinged. She’ll squawk like a dying chicken, attempt to claw her way out of whatever room she’s in, basically have a total, Telemundo-style meltdown.
We’ve tried a dog shrink (”a canine behaviorist”), expensive medications (liver-flavored Prozac, anyone?), natural remedies (Mr. HC’s still giving me a hard time about my purchase of the “anxiety wrap“), Kongs and other puzzle toys… all to no avail. It’s okay, you can laugh: I have reconciled myself to the fact that I am more Meg Swan than Cesar Milan.
Anyway, this self-flagellation is just context for why we ended up not taking Jellyby with us to our wedding. I wanted so much for her to be “Canine of Honor” — I even bought a darling pearl collar for her from a fancy schmancy pet store — but because of her separation anxiety, we just couldn’t figure out what we were going to do with her post-ceremony. So Jellyby stayed behind in Boston with her godparents, our wonderful neighbors, who spoiled her silly while we were off at our Chewish wedding.
Mrs. Joey, SeattleAge and Occupation: 28, Project Administrator for Public Health NGOFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, High School History TeacherEngagement Date: June 24, 2008Wedding Date: August 2009Venue: Eastside Catholic Chapel and Lake Union CafeAbout Me: I'm a Seattle girl through and through except for the fact that I don't drink coffee. I love my job most of the time because I get to travel and work with brilliant people who are trying to prevent Malaria. I love DIY projects of all sorts, cooking, and watching sports. I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
Week 4 of the Brown Dress Plan didn’t go as I had hoped. I did manage to get in about an hour of lifting and abs, and almost 3 hours of vigorous walking, but the spin classes did not happen. I’d like to say I was lazy and enjoyed some other activities in place of working out, but that would be a lie. I didn’t fall off the wagon; I got kicked off… hard. What kicked me? This:
Mrs. Cheese, KnoxvilleAge and Occupation: 29, Engineering ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, CAD DesignerEngagement Date: July 31, 2008Wedding Date: May, 2009Blogging Since: October 16, 2008Venue: Our home and the two acres it sits onAbout Me: I’m an emotional girl who loves sentimental things, parenthetical asides, and trying to do things herself. I can cook, sew, am a whiz at planning, terrible at delegating, and totally in love with my fiancé (who will be my second husband but first love of the rest of my life). For our home/ garden/ DIY wedding, we’ll be moonlighting as interior designers, home improvers, and gardeners with the help of our fabulous friends and neighbors. We can’t wait to be married, and are learning how fun getting married can be.
I like to think of myself as our little family’s CFO (that’s Chief Financial Officer). Giving myself a title frees me to be detailed and business-like about our finances, helps put me in the right frame of mind to update my guy, and makes me a little less grumpy about the time I spend paying bills, calling the stupid cable company because they’ve screwed up my bill yet again, and keeping track of mountains of paperwork.
And I even have an office with a view (oh, and it IS in the corner of the house!). Now if only I was cool enough for an assistant…
Anyway, I see my role as the family CFO as extremely important. Not only do I handle the tactical stuff (paying bills, checking balances, filing records), I help frame and recommend strategic decisions. Do we want to take a yearly vacation? What’s more important to us, eating out or keeping the Home Depot stock afloat? Should we rent or sell our extra house?
Today, for example, I will update our net worth spreadsheet (which feels like a facetious title right now, but won’t always be that way!), look at our list of projects and wants to see what will fit into the budget, and then meet my guy for lunch to do a quick review. If anything weird shows up on our statements, our balances hit a fun target (we watch our mortgage closely), or I pay something big off, I’m sure to share.
See, I’ve always done this - well, at least since early in our relationship. But during one of our arguments, it was mentioned that one of us did everything around the house and the other did not.

I love crafting, blogging, laughing and dreaming. I know every word to the Anne of Green Gables and Little Women movies. I own every single Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine and have been dreaming of weddings since I was little. I believe life is about doing what makes you happy. If you aren't happy re-evaluate what you are doing. You should never look back on your life and not be proud of what you are doing. If you want to travel - travel. If you want to sing - sing. If you want to start a company - start a company. If you want to blog – blog!
Mr. AC and I are excited about our honeymoon and we have made NO decisions on where we are going. I must say that whoever created the “honeymoon” should get a wedding invite, because it is such a great idea: A vacation after the best day of your life. For Mr. AC and me, having spent years apart, the idea of days together as husband and wife is just so exciting.
BUT… we have a dilemma. Where should we go? We keep changing our minds and finding new places, and I would love to get ideas and thoughts from the community.
Honeymoon Idea Numero Uno
Renting a gorgeous cabin somewhere in the mountains of NC, TN, VA or WV. The cabin would be large and beautiful. It would have a great view, a Jacuzzi, and be located near an adorable town where we can wine and dine.
These aren’t real homes, just log home mock-ups, but you get the idea!
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, NDAge and Occupation: 26, Instructional DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead ProgrammerEngagement Date: February 28, 2009Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: City HallAbout Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
After Mr. Mary Jane and I had ogled dozens of ring photos online, we decided to go see some rings in person. For me, this outing really solidified the process. “Wow. We’re really doing this.” Because anyone can look at photos of fancy things on the internet, but going to the store was for real.
On our first trip out ring-shopping, we ran in to a couple of roadblocks. The first was entirely expected but somewhat insurmountable: we do not live in or near a heavily-populated area. Seriously. Go to the website of any dress designer, ring designer, vendor finder, or other huge nationally known organization and type in 58203. You will probably get nothing. You might luck out and find one or two results (usually in Fargo, only about 1.5 hours away), but generally the results look more like this:
We’re sorry, no results match your query. No retailers within 250 miles of your location. The location you entered does not exist. Please try again. (Ouch!!)
What did this mean for our ring-shopping excursion? We weren’t going to simply traipse in to a Tiffany store and ask to see their bridal collections. This lack of widely publicized options will remain a trend throughout the planning of our day. I try not to see it as an inconvenience, however. I look on the bright side and focus on our opportunity to have a unique occasion. There may not be any Men’s Warehouse or PaperSource locations nearby, but we’ll also probably save money and still look damn good doing it. And, I always have my best friend: the internet. Read more…

My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Being super competitive is in my nature, and talking excessively is in my genes. I’ve got a terrible sense of direction, but can always easily find my way into Mr. Bruschetta’s arms.
If you’re in the Philly area, consider stopping into Plate in Ardmore at noon to hang out with food-themed bees Mrs. Cupcake, Mrs. Sushi, Mrs. Candy Corn (and me!), and other local hive members.
Feel free to comment below if you’re joining us, so we can have a general idea how many people will be buzzing by. Hope to see you there!
Mrs. Gloss, Boston/MaineAge and Occupation: 24, Designer/soon-to-be ArchitectFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: May 23, 2008Wedding Date: August 2009Venue: SS Katahdin/Lakeside TentAbout Me: I don't like nickels or the skin that forms on pudding when it's in the fridge for too long. I couldn't live without Pantone markers, fountain soda (3/4 diet, ¼ regular Coke), run-on sentences, or ridiculously oversized sunglasses. I will try to DIY almost anything and am just OCD enough to make most of it work. I am truly excited about having all my family and friends together, becoming Mrs. Gloss, and having amazing photos to prove it!
One of our biggest DIY projects to date has been the creation of our wedding website—and to think, I almost forgot to blog about it! A website was important for us since it will be a ’destination wedding’ for roughly 90% of our guests. The pre-made wedding templates just really weren’t cutting it for us. I think I searched them all, and they just didn’t feel ’us’ - so, in true Glossy fashion, we made our own!
The concept of our website came from my wedding planning notebook. I have a small black moleskin notebook that I carry everywhere with me (because who knows when wedding inspiration will hit!). It’s small enough that I can carry it all the time and barely know it’s there, and it holds all my random wedding thoughts, vendor contacts, and everything else, from the guest list, to the style of the b’maid dresses.
Using a ’notebook’ concept as the basis of our design, we came up with this as our intro page:

Although
I am an engineer by day, I feed my inner creative side through crafting, sewing, and obsessing over Martha Stewart. I love coffee, my mister, NPR, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of Austin.
I can't wait to share my adventures in DIY and wedding planning with all of you!
I love shoes. I think this post is evidence of that. Almost as soon as I found the dress (okay, maybe even a little before that), I started thinking about what shoes I would wear with it. I think I may have even considered finding the right shoes to be almost more important than finding the right dress!
Have I mentioned I love shoes? When I started my shoe search I was looking for a unique style, preferably in satin, with a small to medium heel… bonus points for any bow or flower ornamentation.
I thought about purple (to coordinate with our wedding colors):
