I’m back from my first fitting! And let me tell you, it was a whirlwind—I laughed, I cried… I went through a whole range of emotions. So come along with me on this little journey into the wonderful, and sometimes dangerous, world of bridal gown fittings.
First, the giddy laughter.
After an hour-and-a-half drive in the dreary, rainy, Michigan spring weather, my mom and I arrived at the bridal salon, and I’ll admit it—I was nervous. I couldn’t wait to see my dress! Would I still love it after all these months? After a frightening couple of minutes when the saleswoman seemed unable to find my dress in the back room (eek!), she finally emerged with it and I nearly ripped it out of her hands. I wanted that dress on my body, STAT!
When it was finally on and zipped, I popped out of the dressing room to look in the mirror. And…

It’s been nearly two months since my last recap, which ended with me unveiling that I had realized I made a terrible mistake just before I was about to walk down the aisle. How’s that for suspense? (That’s how I roll.)
It was around 5:15 PM when the museum coordinators decided most of our guests had probably arrived. I stood in the back of the Chinese Rotunda, behind a line of beautiful bridesmaids, arm in arm with my dad, who was definitely having a Steve Martin moment (Father of the Bride fans, what what!). The moment I had been waiting for was literally just around the corner. I was shaking and trying to tell my cheeks not to turn red like they always do when I am nervous.

You’ll be happy to know our florist still wants to work with us, even after I dropped the ball. When she sent me an email confirming the flowers we had discussed, I realized our flowers still went along with the old color scheme instead of the new one!
Oopsies! So the hive shall receive more flower searching inspiration from me. Our florist asked what boutonniere Mr. D should wear to complement the bridal bouquet, and I realized that with no calla lilies in the new bouquet, it would be kinda silly for him to be wearing one. The new bouquet will be made of lavender hydrangea, lavender roses, lavender stock, lavender lisianthus, and variegated purple dendrobium orchids (but I’m seeing if I can switch in other purple flowers instead of the orchids) with gray berries.
So, I thought he could maybe wear a little thistle with gray berries? It seems pretty manly… I mean, as manly as flowers can get…

Earlier this week Brooklyn Bride had posted about One Elf, a charming lil’ Etsy store that sells the most adorable cuff links, charms, earrings, etc. Seriously, how cute are these?!
Mr. Cowboy Boot and I have an appointment with Devil’s Thumb Ranch to suss out our catering contract over Memorial Day weekend. It’s got my wheels spinning. While I should be thinking about our BBQ menu and whether we want braised collared greens or bison rustic chili, I’ve only got my mind on one thing. Beer. No, this is not Mr. CB writing in place of Miss Cowboy Boot.

I love beer. That’s right. After a long hike, while paddling down a river, around a campfire, or at the end of a ski day, there’s nothing better than an ice-cold brew. This favoritism over other, more girly beverages could be a result of the fact that I live in a mountain town. Everyone here drinks beer.

Now that we’ve explained how StumbleUpon works, we thought we’d talk a bit about other popular social media platforms.
Most of you probably have a Facebook account, so please be sure to join Weddingbee’s fan page! To share any of Weddingbee’s posts with your Facebook friends, click on the little
under the post, log into your account, and send the article off to friends or post it on your wall.
Kirsty is similar to StumbleUpon in that it helps you share your favorite finds on the web, except that most of the users are women. You’ll need to sign up for a membership, then if you’re the first to add a post, you leave a short teaser description to describe your find. If someone else has already done that, you’ll simply be adding a vote to the count and helping generate more excitement for that post! To share a Weddingbee post on Kirtsy, click on the little
under the post.

We’ll be sharing Weddingbee posts that we think are Stumble/Facebook/Kirtsy worthy in the coming weeks. Hopefully that brings more visibility to some of our best posts!
What social media platforms do you use regularly?
Don’t make fun of me… there is just something about a little hint of bling that makes me super happy. Heck, when I was a kid, I wanted a BeDazzler SO incredibly badly. My mom was smart not to get it for me. I probably would have blinged up my school uniform!
Now, I’m going to bling up my bridesmaids in a way they NEVER thought they would be blinged up. Yes folks, I blinged out some Old Navy flip flops for them! I wasn’t about to give them a plain pair of flip flops to relax their dancing feet!

Now that I’ve revealed our invitations, I’m ready to get into the details. Since our invites were closely related to our save the dates, let’s do a really quick inspiration rewind. Our main inspiration was the string tied around the finger motif from a (slightly creepy and not pictured) “don’t forget”-themed knick knack that I had found at a thrift store, and the graphic from our cake:

We loved our save the dates, and I was so pleased with how well the black string and bow graphic ties in with our bridesmaids’ dresses.
You may remember that we were very lucky when it came to our STDs:
I’ve raved many times over about my fabulous cake topper. I was so lucky to find a great option that not only fits our personalities, but also will be a great keepsake after the wedding.
If you’re not having a cake, you can still have toppers! If you’re doing a cupcake tower, you can still have a Goose Grease topper created in your image, but created in perfect proportion to a cupcake, or to the mini tier you’re cutting into.
If I were cool enough I would have begged Mr. AC for these kick-butt invitations that one of my favorite bloggers/designers/printers posted on their site. Studio On Fire has the most kick-butt stuff on the planet. I drool over their stuff weekly.
Check out these totally rad invitations that one couple had designed and letterpressed. They really are incredible. The details, the idea, the design, the colors! The designer (according to the Studio On Fire folks) is Adam Ramerth of Price of Design. I am in awe of the talent.

Summer Fresh by emmacunningham14 featuring Dorothy Perkins brooches
When I first started planning for our wedding, flowers were the least of my concerns. I’m not a big flower person (they die quickly, so what’s the point?), but I do want to have bouquets for all the girls in my wedding. Because I’m not a big flower person, it took lots of research and time to find a flower I would like to carry in my bouquet down the aisle. I finally decided on an all-white (technically, cream) bouquet of peonies. The more I looked at pictures of them, the more I fell in love.
*SWOON.* If flowers were celebrities, the peony would be Brad Pitt. MANY women want them in their weddings. But like Miss Cowboy Boot, I found out that the peony is not in season in November. I was devastated.

We’re still a little worried about our registry. We seem to take more off it than put on it, and it seems that over 60% of what we managed to put on it costs less that $15. Hmm… we don’t want to register for the sake of registering, but we want to give guests options. Our solution? Books. Well, more specifically, cookbooks.
Mr. Joey and I love food. I’m not sure we would call ourselves foodies, but I’d maybe put us on the rung below that. We have a little collection of cookbooks now, mostly ones we’ve been given as gifts. Among our titles are the Silver Spoon, 1080 recipes, the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, various regional cookbooks we’ve picked up on trips, Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook, and Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home Fast.
So now we’re trying to add to our cookbook collection. We’re looking at titles we know we’ll actually use now and in the future. We’re also looking for cookbooks Mr. Joey would be comfortable using. He’s responsible for 3 dinners a week, and lately they’ve been the same things every week. He gets intimidated by a long list of ingredients and the use of more than one pot.
I’m looking for 2 types of cookbooks. Ones with recipes I can prepare fairly quickly, and ones with lovely options for our big Sunday dinners. We decided a few months ago to end (or start) the week with a big, interesting meal that may take several hours to prepare. We’ve been doing various roasts, but I’d love to move beyond that. I’m also looking for cookbooks on the healthier side (sorry Paula Deen).

Since Mr. Mary Jane and I had already decided on marriage, it seemed odd to now have to discuss rings. The ring budget wasn’t a problem; it was the shopping itself. Would I go with him? Would I just give him ideas? Or, would he surprise me entirely?
I tend to wear a lot of different types of jewelry, so we decided I would give him some ideas of my “style”. I started by sending him links to photos of rings I liked. I knew I wanted white gold, and side stones, and I was leaning toward a square (cushion or princess) or oblong (emerald or oval) diamond. A few of my online inspirations were…
