I learned how to carve linoleum blocks in high school, and I’ve made a new one every year since. I used last year’s to print our post-wedding thank you cards. Linoleum takes a little more muscle to carve than rubber blocks, but you can put a lot more detail into a smaller space. The result looks a lot like a wood block print and the overall effect can be textured and rustic looking.

Mr. Beagle and I had picked out and bought *the* ring together about 3 months prior to our formal engagement, so I knew the proposal was coming, I just didn’t know when. I knew he wouldn’t propose on our anniversary, because we don’t have one.
I thought (*hoped) he might propose on an upcoming trip to the beach we were taking to celebrate a family member’s graduation. However, my parents were in the process of moving back to Austin and would not be home until after our return. Mr. Beagle, being the gentleman that he is, really wanted to speak with them in person before the proposal to satisfy tradition. So I waited. And I waited. And I waited. My birthday was approaching, and I kind of put the proposal out of mind because I knew he wouldn’t do it then. When we talked about the proposal shortly after we bought the ring, I casually mentioned I didn’t want a proposal on my birthday—I told him I wanted our engagement to be on a day that was uniquely special to both of us, and not one that already had a special meaning to one of us. So naturally, that sneaky Mr. Beagle planned to do it the day before my birthday, to throw me off guard. Which he did.
On the day of the engagement, we started our morning with breakfast at the local cafe we love. While we sat enjoying our coffee, Mr. Beagle mentioned that it would be nice to visit a nearby winery later that afternoon. I said that might be nice, but honestly, I was really not that interested in going.

Hi Hive! My name is Miss Labrador Retriever and I’m so excited to be a part of such an amazing community of creative wedding planners!
I was so happy to find out I was the newest bee, and equally thrilled to snatch up the coveted Labrador icon! The timing of the doggie generation couldn’t have been any more perfect. You see, Mr. Lab and I are the proud parents of 3 (yes, THREE) Labrador Retrievers: Dixie (yellow), Madie (black), and Gabby (chocolate). I’m sure you’ll hear a lot about them during our wedding planning (doggie table numbers anyone?).

I always tell Mr. Lovebird that the only features of his that I am jealous of are his long, plush eyelashes. Albeit, his droop down naturally to cover his tiny Asian eyes, but if I had those puppies, I would certainly make them shine! The first things I notice about a person are their eyelashes. I’ve got crazy lash envy. Heck, I’m even especially jealous of babies who all seem to have more plush lashes than I do!
That being said, I always knew fake lashes were a must for my wedding day!
Now that the wedding is over, it doesn’t mean my lash envy has ended. I saw something on TV yesterday that piqued my interest, and I thought other lash-challenged ladies around the hive would find it interesting.
What is it you ask?

Glossy Mom volunteered to make homemade jam as favors! I’m super excited - I’ve always thought it would be a great idea, but I felt terrible asking someone to make allllll that jam. She picks all her berries wild, thereby making the BEST JAM EVER. She suggested it, and I jumped at the opportunity.
Obviously they have to have some sort of super cute label:
And then be tied with a swatch of fabric on top with a bit of twine:

I heart wedding blogs. One of the first that I discovered after our engagement almost a year ago (eek!) was Snippet and Ink. The inspiration boards are an amazing source of creativity, and this one caught my eye as the perfect look for the mister’s and my wedding.
Vintage-y? Check. Lovely? Check. Garden pastels? Check. Perfection? Check!

Alas, my beloved Canon Powershot SD1100, which I bought less than a year ago, has decided to stop loving me back. As of yesterday, all outdoor pics are horribly overexposed — to the point where they’re all white. Sigh. I’d so hoped to show you pictures of our backyard (aka ceremony site) where my honey has spruced up the trail with bee-yootiful gravel. Oh, and did I mention that we spent the weekend clearing loads (LOADS) of underbrush, freeing poor neglected shrubbery from crazy vines, and that OUR CEREMONY SITE WAS SUDDENLY AND FABULOUSLY AWASH IN PURPLE FLOWERS? Yea. And there were cute puppies rolling around in those fields of flowers, all for you.
Argh. The more I write about it, the more frustrated I get.
So, I’ll find other things to write about while I come up with a camera solution that hopefully doesn’t involve my buying a new one. With six weeks to go until our wedding, though, I can’t really afford to wait weeks to get my camera fixed under warranty.
ARGH!
Your turn. Are you dealing with unexpected expenses or other frustrations on this (for me, anyway, cold and dreary) Monday?
As you might already know, I make maps for a living. So, of course, I had to make our wedding directions map for our invitations! While this map wouldn’t serve as impressive to my colleagues in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), I think this was a pretty good map for our guests, considering I couldn’t use my work’s GIS software!
My Photoshop skills are limited to none, so I used Microsoft PowerPoint to make the maps. I will admit, while it is time consuming, the steps are rather easy. It took me about 3 hours to perfect this map to my liking, but if you aren’t as picky as I am, it shouldn’t take that long! Also, it’s pretty hard to tell you how to make these maps by typing it out, so if there is any confusion, please comment and I’ll try my best to help!
By the way, my apologies in advance for the fuzzy picture examples. I don’t have Photoshop to make them perfectly clear, so please accept my meager Paint/PowerPoint skills here in showing you how to make this wedding map.
Here’s the finished product first:
As always, good things come in pairs! You met Miss Beagle this morning, and now say hello to our newest Southern Belle bee, Miss Labrador Retriever!

About Me: I’m working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I’m a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I’m in front of it! You’ll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a “Southern Romantic Charm” wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I’m not extreme in anything except moderation… and wedding planning.
Now that I’ve successfully teased all of you with our e-pics, I guess it’s only fitting that I reveal the goods!
Back in February, I got an email from my wedding hair and makeup artist, Susie Chhuor, about participating in an engagement shoot with Herman Au, an amazingly talented Los Angeles photographer. She introduced us and even offered to do my hair and makeup for the shoot. Thanks, Susie!
Last weekend, Mr. G and I strolled around the streets of Pasadena, California with Herman Au of Herman Au Photography.
We started in a back alley walking amongst trash bins.
At Sister Bruschetta’s wedding, Stevie Wonder crooned as Daddy Bruschetta swayed and spun his firstborn around the dance floor. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that evening, a Bruschetta family wedding tradition began.
Although the song was released a few years before Sister Bruschetta was born, “Isn’t She Lovely” maintained its popularity into the early 80s. Inspired by the idea of a father-daughter dance song that recalls the bride’s childhood, I set out to find a birth year ballad.
It looks like our wedding invitations aren’t the only invites circulating among our guests. Recently, I was giving an invitation to my bridal shower!

My bridesmaids are working together to throw me a bridal shower at the end of this month.
