I have a confession: for almost a year I’ve been heavily addicted to the site One Pretty Thing. I check it daily and have been saving DIY projects from it for a long time. I just wanted to share some of my recently featured favorites with the hive.
If you like Mrs. Pineapple’s clay flowers (and you’d like to take them on yourself) check out this Martha tutorial:
In 4 months time, Mr. Joey and I will be getting hitched. To mark the time, I thought I’d share with everyone one of my “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” things once a month until the big day. I’m so excited to share my something borrowed. I just confirmed I’d be borrowing this “something” about 20 minutes ago, and couldn’t wait to share.
A little background info first. My favorite Aunt on my Dad’s side, and possibly in the world, lives in London. Actually, she’s my Dad’s cousin, but to me, she’s my Aunt Marie. I met my Aunt Marie for the first time when I was 18 years old. I was on my way to Italy, and my Dad suggested I meet my Aunt. I was a little nervous to be staying with an Aunt and family I’d never met, but I shouldn’t have been. They were awesome. My Uncle Basil is SOO nice, and my cousins James and Juliette were about my age and really fun. My Aunt was everything my Dad said she would be, and more. Since then, whenever I travel, I try to schedule my layover in London because I want to see them even if it’s only for a day.
When Mr. Joey and I got engaged, one of the first people on my list to call was my Aunt Marie and her family. I asked my Dad for her address and he told me he knew they wouldn’t be able to come. I was heartbroken. Then he told me why they couldn’t come, and not only was I heartbroken, but I was crushed.

Several months prior to our wedding day, I couldn’t wait for it to be over with. Not because I was ready for it to be over with, but because I couldn’t wait to chop my hair off. I did just that on Saturday, less than two weeks after our big day, on my 24th birthday.

I had always seen myself as a vintage limo type of bride. I could see Mr. S and me running off to an elegant classic car while our family and friends cheered us on in my dream… an outrageously expensive dream, that is.

Classic limos don’t come cheap by any means. And I scoured the internet for every single company in the Chicago area that might have classic limos, hoping for the perfect car at a bargain basement price. Let me tell you - the amount of limo companies out there is astounding and overwhelming. I searched over a few months with mounting frustration (and yes, I definitely put the cart before the, err, limo and was working on this side project before my florist, baker, and dress had even been found).
I understand why I was finding such high prices - I can assume that the cost of maintaining these cards warrants the high hourly rate. But spending $700, $800, even $900 on a car (and then gratuity!) was not in the cards for us.

Hello everyone! It’s Miss Beagle here, stepping up to the plate. (Oh my, I can’t believe I’m actually here!) Let me start by saying that I am so exited to have this wonderful opportunity to blog for Weddingbee! I hope that I will be able to provide you with as much inspiration as I have found over the last several months from obsessively stalking this website.
Now, getting down to business, let me tell you a little about myself and Mr. Beagle. We had been dating for almost 5 years when we got engaged last summer. We are both natives to Texas, and have called Austin our home for all of our lives… what can I say, we love it here! We share a love for coffee, NPR, good food, live music, and family. We are in the midst of planning a fall wedding (in Austin, of course!) for our 200+ guests on a budget, infused with details and lots of DIY.

So I guess your next question for me is why did I choose the beagle?

I was interested in having a conversation about strippers and bachelor parties outside of the context of someone who is upset about it and looking for advice.
My fiance isn’t having a traditional bachelor party, but I do still get kind of fired up about the issue on my friends’ behalf. Several girls I know are horrified by their fiances’ bachelor party plans.
I am definitely one of those that is NOT OK with strip clubs for bachelor parties. I really don’t have a problem with strippers in general, but I would not be marrying my fiance if he frequented them during the time we were dating. This does not, however, stem from any kind of trust issues. Here is my reasoning, in a few points:
1. I would not be OK with it if one of my friends or one of his colleagues waved their breasts in his face. I would certainly not be OK with it if he paid a prostitute to wave her breasts in his face, whether intercourse followed or not.
2. I hate the idea of “the last hurrah”. If he wanted a last hurrah to singlehood, he should have taken it x number of years ago before we started dating. He hasn’t been a “free man” since the day he agreed to date me exclusively. I also feel like the “last hurrah” is pretty humiliating to me, the fiancee, because it’s like he’s saying, “My fiancee is this one woman, which is clearly not sufficient. I need to say goodbye to the boundless goodies out there.” I’m sorry—when he proposed, he SHOULD have meant, “You are the best woman out there, and I could never desire another.” The strip club bachelor party nullifies that whole idea.
3. It is humiliating and degrading to the woman he’s marrying. Why go to a strip club to look at the body of a complete stranger when you have a perfectly good set of boobies right here at home, that you get to touch!? I don’t expect him to never look at another woman and find her attractive. I do expect him to be discreet about it and not rub it in my face.
I realize I’ve expressed some strong opinions here, and that’s because I’m interested in hearing the strong opinions of others on the boards. Let’s hear it! What’s your take?

A coworker of mine is engaged! She got engaged just a couple of months after we did. It’s so much fun to have someone down the hall to giggle and gaggle with about everything wedding-related. My favorite detail she’s shown me as of late? Her concert poster-inspired save-the-dates are similar to Ms. Joey’s adorable posters, but hers are not full-sized. Instead, they are around 5″ x 7″. I asked my coworker if I could share her STDs with the hive, and she was more than open about it.

When I excitedly called the Glossy Grandparents to tell them my good news that I was engaged, Nana Gloss said that she would like us to have a bar of platinum that Grampa Gloss had bought for her some time ago.

Grampa Gloss had bought it with the intention of designing a ring for her, but she found a ’pre-made’ one she liked in the meantime, and the platinum has just been hanging out in their house for a while.

I loved everything about the wedding band, but was hoping for a simpler engagement ring — one that still mimicked the gentle curve of the Optima prong, and had the same caret-like design under the center diamond. After considering our options, Mr. Bruschetta and I asked for more information about using CAD (computer-aided design) to create a version of the Optima engagement setting without side diamonds.

As the clock was nearing 7:00, the catering manager grabbed Mr. Cupcake, me, and our parents for a sneak peek at the transformed ballroom before the doors opened for our guests. I think I actually gasped when I saw how beautiful it looked. Every little detail had finally fallen into place, and the result was divine!
Here’s a little before and after….

Fiance’s Age and Occupation: 28, Finance

Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Church Ceremony/Reception at The Waterford House
About Me:
I am a true, but rare, Austinite—I was born, raised, and continue to live in this great city! Although I am an engineer by day, I feed my inner creative side through crafting, sewing, and obsessing over Martha Stewart. I love coffee, my mister, NPR, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of Austin. I can’t wait to share my adventures in DIY and wedding planning with all of you!
I don’t know about you all, but I have reached that magical age when it seems like everyone and their little sister is planning a wedding. We’re in our mid-twenties. That means it’s time to get hitched! Consider this: Mr. Powder Puff and I are attending at least three weddings in the next year (all occurring within a few months of one another), with a couple more to follow soon thereafter. In the next few years, we will be celebrating the nuptials of up to eight friends. Phew!
While it would be easy to feel like our wedding might be lost in the shuffle, I’m finding it to be totally awesome! It’s so fun to talk about someone else’s wedding besides my own, weddings with a completely different style and feel to them. It’s so refreshing!
One of my favorites is the wedding of our good friends, Kristyn and Jake.
One of the fun things about this duo is that Kristyn is one of my bridesmaids, and Jake is one of Mr. Powder Puff’s groomsmen!
Their wedding is modern and fresh- totally the opposite of our vintage, garden-y affair. Think greens, black and white. Kind of like this:

Before you look down and see the numbers, I want to say that this is obviously not a budget wedding. I know people have gotten married for a lot less. This is our budget, and we feel like it’s pretty small considering the number of people who are invited and the expectations of our parents.
This is a budget in progress, as we’re not married yet. If a number and line item is in italics, that means the category is closed and we’ve spent all we needed for it. All bolded numbers are the original estimates for the line item. All money leftover in one category was applied to the honeymoon, or another category.
Obviously there are categories we could have eliminated to save some money, but everyone has their priorities.
Reception for 130 people
I’m interrupting the Sea Breeze recaps to bring you this special treat - I just couldn’t wait until they were over. I know, I know… jeez woman, wrap it up already! I’m swear I’m trying, but I have so many projects on the go these days, it’s a bit crazy here in SB Land.
One of these million and one projects is our photo books.
After having made one for Pepperpot as part of her MOH thank you gift, I knew that I wanted to create photo books of all our wedding images not just for us, but for our parents, too.
And then I came across this:

The planning of the bachelorette party, as well as two showers, is in full swing! As discussed previously, my future sisters-in-law will be throwing us a bridal shower in the next few months. My mother and a family friend are throwing another shower, as well! Since the guest list will be rather large, our moms thought it would be best to break them into two separate events. That works for me! My task for the next week will be to come up with guest lists for both showers. I’ve also been instructed by our family friend to pick out a signature drink for the shower that she and my mom are putting together. Again, since I like to do things out of order, I think I’ve decided on which girly drink I’d like served.
Berry spritzers with your choice of champagne or wine anyone?
