About Me: I love the Spice Girls, dogs with underbites, bean burritos, making messes, high fives, avoiding showers, crossword puzzles, blogs, weddings, and blogs about weddings!
Ever since I lost my wedding ring, I’ve been wearing my engagement ring solo. I didn’t plan to replace my wedding ring, but I do admit that whenever I see bees blog about their wedding ring purchases, I feel a pang of jealousy. It feels funny to just wear my engagement ring, and for a while I was paranoid that I’d have to tell anyone that noticed my engagement ring that I was married, and not engaged, and had lost my ring. What a yucky conversation.
Funny enough, that conversation has never come up. When I was engaged, random people would notice my ring all the time and ask me about it. Sure, there were other telltale signs of my engagement, like the fact that I was often toting around a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine in my purse, or I’d usually be shopping for something wedding-related when I was out and about. But I do recall that I’d be participating in my normal day-to-day activities (like going to the bank or grocery store), and people would notice my ring and ask me all about the details of my engagement and upcoming wedding. I was always thrilled when people would notice my ring. I mean, HELLO, that was some shiny hot sh*t! Check it out, world!
I thought about it the other day, and realized that since I’ve lost my wedding ring, not a single random stranger has asked me about my ring.

Age and Occupation: 29, Weddingbee Publisher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Internet
Engagement Date: May 7, 2004
Wedding Date: March 5, 2005
Venue: Westside Loft, New York
About Me: Yes, my name really is Bee! I love my blogging, wikis, and tabasco sauce!
Bridal shows can really be hit or miss, and if one was good a particular year, it isn’t necessarily indicative of whether it will be good the following year. I typically don’t attend bridal shows, but I ended up going to three in the past month, and luckily… they were all great!
First up was BFF Bridal. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the images on my camera from that event, but the venue was great, the food was superb, there was a great selection of high end vendors, and the gift bag was tres awesome. I think it’s a mistake when bridal shows don’t give press attendees gift bags, because how else will we write about them? I always give mine away anyway, but who doesn’t like receiving a little gift?
Next up: The Wedding Salon. This event was packed! A little too packed for my claustrophobic self, but there were some big names in the house!

Mrs. Kitten, Austin/Grand Cayman
Age and Occupation: 25, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Dental Student
Engagement Date: October 19, 2006
Wedding Date: April, 2009
Venue: The Grand Old House, Grand Cayman
About Me: In 2009 I will get married (after a two and a half year engagement!), become an Army wife, graduate from law school, take the bar, move from Austin to Washington, D.C., and start my career as a lawyer! With all this going on, Mr. Kitten and I decided to have a tropical, "stress-free" destination wedding. Nevertheless, my micromanaging, detail-oriented, perfectionist side has prevailed---I am currently obsessed with every last detail of my "stress-free" destination wedding! But most of all, I'm beyond excited to become Mrs. Kitten on a fabulous Caribbean vacation surrounded by my friends and family!

Our day is finally here! I am SO excited to become Mrs. Kitten today, and to begin our new life together! Wherever life (or the Army!) takes us, I know that it will be great because we truly are better together. I never could have imagined a person so perfect for me—you are patient, caring, and always know how to make me smile. Today will be a truly unforgettable day filled with love, friendship, and family, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
XOXO,
Miss Kitten

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Engineer
Engagement Date: May 23, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2009
Venue: SS Katahdin/Lakeside Tent
About Me: I don't like nickels or the skin that forms on pudding when it's in the fridge for too long. I couldn't live without Pantone markers, fountain soda (3/4 diet, ¼ regular Coke), run-on sentences, or ridiculously oversized sunglasses. I will try to DIY almost anything and am just OCD enough to make most of it work. I am truly excited about having all my family and friends together, becoming Mrs. Gloss, and having amazing photos to prove it!
It just seems like cruel irony that the heavy wedding season coincides with hurricane season in the Bahamas/Caribbean. I blame it on the wedding industry – I’m not sure how, but clearly they figured out some way to rule out all the more budget-friendly islands (via terrible weather), forcing us to travel farther and spend more for our retreats. They are clearly very tricky people. (I know this because they convinced me I needed to spend $8 each on something called a Chivari chair.)

Mrs. Bruschetta, Philadelphia

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapy Graduate Student
Engagement Date: November 30, 2007
Wedding Date: August 2009
Venue: St. Thomas of Villanova Church & the F.U.E.L. House
About Me: I’m a self-proclaimed grammar geek who loves singing (like, really belting it) in the car. My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Being super competitive is in my nature, and talking excessively is in my genes. I’ve got a terrible sense of direction, but can always easily find my way into Mr. Bruschetta’s arms.
UPDATE: We goofed! Our previously-publicized location, 333 Belrose, isn’t open in the afternoon on Saturdays — oops. The Philly-area meet up is still scheduled for lunch on Saturday, April 18. But, we’ll be moving the gathering (which will start at noon) to Plate in Ardmore, PA.

Mrs. D'orsay, Baltimore/Lancaster UK
Age and Occupation: 24, nonprofit communications
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Web site developer and designer; co-owner of men's skincare shop
Engagement Date: August 10, 2008
Wedding Date: August, 2009
Venue: Oakland Manor
About Me: I'm a Maryland raised environmental policy wonk/activist/organizer and communications aficionado. In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!
… it’s good enough for Mr. D. You see, Mr. D isn’t wild about the idea of “man jewelry”, but I’m slowly convincing him to wear a wedding ring. After checking out men’s wedding rings, Mr. D and I were relaxing with a glass of wine when he realized that David Beckham wears a wedding ring (so clearly, it must be manly?).
Mr. D assumed Becks would have a simple, classic style wedding band, so we set about Googling “David Beckham wedding band” until we found a picture. This is what we found:

While weddings can certainly be all-consuming, I honestly can’t wait until the ceremony is over and I can finally call Mr. Powder Puff my husband!
I got the magical call. The one that everyone anticipates for FOREVER, it seems. Yes, that’s right, my dress is in!
Holla!

Mrs. Joey, Seattle
Age and Occupation: 28, Project Administrator for Public Health NGO
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, High School History Teacher
Engagement Date: June 24, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2009
Venue: Eastside Catholic Chapel and Lake Union Cafe
About Me: I'm a Seattle girl through and through except for the fact that I don't drink coffee. I love my job most of the time because I get to travel and work with brilliant people who are trying to prevent Malaria. I love DIY projects of all sorts, cooking, and watching sports. I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
Over the weekend Mr. Joey and I met with the priest who is marrying us, and the chapel’s wedding coordinator. We weren’t looking forward to this meeting at all. We knew there were a few housekeeping issues that needed to be taken care of.
When we first asked about getting married at the chapel, we were told its use would be free to us because Mr. Joey is a teacher at the school. When we finally met with the school’s priest, he mentioned that the fee was now $500. Hmm. I should have said something then, but Mr. Joey said to wait and he’d check it out.
Using the chapel for free was probably the number one reason we decided to hold the ceremony there. The chapel is out of the way and not really convenient unless you live east of Seattle. When the other teachers at school heard about the fee, well, let’s say they we’re less than happy. They had also been told it would be free. I don’t think anyone else is thinking of using it, but I think they like knowing they had that free option. Many teachers and staff lobbied on our behalf, and because of that (thanks guys!) we were told the administration would review the fee and we’d find out what it would really be during this housekeeping meeting. Oh great, a confrontation with a priest.
The meeting went OK. There were some highlights and some lowlights.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Process Engineer
Engagement Date: July 27, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Catholic ceremony, reception at local armory
About Me: A lover of Mr. Mascara, crafting, baking, Gossip Girl, diet soda, and all things wedding. A Yooper girl somehow displaced in the Chicago suburbs, planning a wedding from a distance, and counting down the days until I marry my best friend.
My cousin Heather is planning a fall 2010 outdoor wedding, and has asked me to help her plan it! She wants to incorporate some of the traditional fall colors. I found this gorgeous color scheme on one of my favorite blogs, 100 Layer Cake, that I think would be perfect for a beautiful fall affair. It incorporates some of the traditional fall colors (red and gold) while bringing in a some unexpected shades of plum and midnight blue.

I am in love. That is, if it’s possible to be in love with a color scheme. I think it is.
What’s your favorite color scheme?

Wedding Date: May, 2009
Venue: Coyaba Resort, Montego Bay
About Me: I love Chicago and can’t imagine living anywhere else (Well, except Paris. Or anywhere in France, for that matter!). I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. Mr. Quiche and I are “Partners-in-Crime” and cannot wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and closest friends. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).
Following in the footsteps of Miss Glitter and her amazing engagement pic teasers, here are a couple of ours from a Nashville photographer - Hannah, of Hannah Elaine Photography. She happened to be in town for a few days a couple of weekends ago and lined up a few shoots after posting on the Weddingbee Boards!
We had a blast with her and love the outcome. I am so glad we did this, as we were a little nervous at first. It was great practice for the wedding!

Mrs. Taffy, Ann Arbor

Engagement Date: May 9, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2009
Blogging Since: September 14, 2008
Venue: University of Michigan Union
About Me: I’m a girl who is crazy about Mr. Taffy, sewing, dancing, almost all types of sweets, and our cute pet canaries. I dislike touching fuzzy fabric of any kind, eating somewhat squishy food, and Michigan winters. Mr. Taffy and I are having a blast planning our Ann Arbor wedding, and cannot wait to share our day with friends and family.
As an artist and designer who avidly studied life drawing and fashion illustration, and as a girl with a serious obsession with lingerie, I have always loved the concept of boudoir shoots. Have I mentioned that (one) of my dream jobs would be designing intimate apparel? Had I not gone straight into automotive design after fashion school, I would have most definitely been cranking out the undies (and hopefully still will someday!).
As most designers like to build collections for reference and inspiration, I have accumulated vintage pin up calendars, centerfolds and books over the years. I have been slowly building my lingerie collection for about the same time, and have found some really great pieces. While I’m not prepared to show you my undies, I will gladly share my pin up/burlesque references with you for boudoir shoot inspiration.

“It’s All in the Eyes” by Joe Demers. Scanned from my copy of The Great American Pin Up.
From a life drawing perspective, I love the poses and play of light in vintage pin ups. From a fashion illustration perspective, I love seeing how the hair, makeup, and different fabrics are rendered, especially the sheer fabrics and any embellishment details. From a boudoir perspective, the poses, hair styles, expressions and colors can be a fun source of inspiration.

Our honeymoon, in two words, was amazing and exhausting. We ate so much delicious food, climbed more stairs than imaginable, and saw some of the most beautiful places. While our honeymoon was a dream come true, I am so happy to be home, drinking a Mountain Dew, as my dogs snuggle next to me.
Soon I will share photos and stories from our honeymoon with you all, but I am silly and want to post them in order, after our wedding recaps. Not to leave you empty handed, here are a few teasers from our wedding:

So, a few months ago I knew I was going to get engaged and I started planning my wedding in my head and on The Knot. I already had a good idea of who my bridesmaids would be. I even told them that I would have them in the wedding. I was talking to my one friend about how I planned to include her. Not too long after, we had a huge fight where she yelled at me for some pretty stupid things (like goofing around) that none of my other friends would have ever gotten mad about. We didn’t talk for a month, but finally just said, “let’s agree to disagree,” and put it behind us.
I don’t feel the same towards her anymore, but she went on pretending we were the best of friends after that. I still haven’t forgotten what happened and don’t see her as such a great friend anymore. When I got engaged she didn’t say anything about being in the wedding, but asked if she could plan my bachelorette party, told me how excited she was, that she needed to lose weight for my wedding, and so on. I know she asked one of our mutual friends if she thought she was still in the wedding. I know I have to say SOMETHING to her, but I don’t know what to say. She still acts like she’s my bestest friend and wants to help me plan the wedding, but I really don’t want her that involved.
What do I say!?
