About Mrs. Stiletto

On Wars… Err, Bride Wars

May 1st, 2009 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Stiletto

I’ve been absent from posting this last week… work took me out west to Denver. I was working like crazy and was literally inside of my hotel from Saturday evening to Tuesday evening, barely seeing the light of day. Ugh. Needless to say, all things wedding were pretty far from my mind.

Thankfully, my return flight provided me with a wedding infusion through the in-flight entertainment. I was flipping through the channels and was less than thrilled with the 5 options they provided - the Disney Channel, an old episode of The Office, and a couple of other random selections I flipped right by. But wait, is that Kate Hudson? And Anne Hathaway, is that you? Score. Bride Wars.

I’d heard less-than-stellar reviews of this chick flick. But hey, sit me down, and I’ll watch anything that might included a veil or a slice of cake these days… you never know where you’ll find inspiration. Especially on the plane - it’s not like I had anywhere to go. Unfortunately, since more time was spent on feuding than flowers, I didn’t gain any great inspiration.

Oh yeah, and because my flight landed before the end of the movie, I didn’t quite make it to the weddings, where I might have at least found out if the war of the brides ended in two beautiful weddings (judging by the clip I saw on TV where Hathaway is attacking Hudson down the aisle, things probably didn’t go quite as planned).

Anyway, I digress. I’m not here to talk through the ins and outs of a chick flick. Except for little one detail… the impetus for this post. Why didn’t the brides blame their planner?! Yes, this woman right here.

I just don’t get it. I understand that she was supposed to be the best in the business in NYC, and the hookup for the Plaza, but seriously. It was her office that messed up the wedding dates and she offered no solutions for them. And then, throughout the planning process, she did nothing to try and bring the clients together, which you’d think she’d want to do just to make her life easier. I mean, come on, did she really want to produce a wedding where the bride had bright blue hair? Geesh.

Would you be this complacent with your planner or another vendor if a snafu of this magnitude happened, or would you push for a solution?

Ah, suspension of disbelief. I hear ya, Miss Stiletto…I don’t think any of US would stand for that “service.”

I haven’t seen this movie yet, but boy would I be ticked if my freaking coordinator couldn’t coordinate things properly!

I didn’t get that aspect of it either. I would have DEFINITELY insisted that HER office fix it. I don’t care WHAT they have to do - just fix it. Firing the woman who made the mistake was not a viable solution.

Also didn’t they both plan their weddings in like a matter of weeks? And they were REALLY lavish weddings. Craziness.

Yah, the whole movie (barring the end, which I didn’t get to see) gave me kind of an icky feeling about everything, especially that they’re giving brides such a bag wrap! I couldn’t ever imagine turning on a best friend like that. Instead, I’d try and get the most out of the expensive planning service I was paying for, darn it!

And yes, seemed like they planned in a couple of months, and the word “budget” was never mentioned. I can only imagine how much a NYC wedding the Plaza would cost…eeh. Especially if you’re making snap decisions!

Haven’t seen it yet. Should I put it on my chick flick list to watch this weekend? OR is it a total skip?

@Miss Peep Toe - DEFINITELY watch it, its actually a great movie. I saw it in theatres twice. The ending of the movie is great, so if you didnt see the ending make sure you do!!

And, Id be ticked if that were my planner, no way and now how would I try to take those matters into my own hands, especially at the expense of a best friend! Insanity. On another note, I cant wait to buy that and watch it…again =o)

I loved “27 Dresses” so much. I just cannot “get” the premise of this movie. Years ago, when I married my x, my bff and I were getting married (and we had huge ones) within weeks of each other and we were both 100 percent supportive of each other.

I do know of some brides who have been competitive with other brides and if you are a friend, then be happy for the other!!! I just cannot fathom ever hurting somebody else at the happiest time of their life (although I’m 1 million times happier now with my stb-FI!)

I have yet to see the movie yet, also.
But the questionable planner had me wondering from the first preview. I mean, I don’t even have to see the movie to know that SHE was to blame…not the bridezillas.

I would totally push for solutions. Really? Who’s paying who!?

Am I the only one who was more than disappointed at the movie? Bearing in mind that is was a comedy, I didn’t think it would be THAT unrealistic. How many people do you know who would act like that? But more so, and I won’t ruin it for you ladies who have not seen it, was anyone but me surprised by the ending? I didn’t see that coming except for maybe one small scene that didn’t even allude to that! I was very much not thrilled with it. Given my maybe harsh commentary, for renting and entertainment purposes at home it is not so bad. I’m just slightly annoyed I paid to see it in the theaters.

I definitely wouldn’t have been satisfied with the way the planner handled that situation. With a popular as she supposedly was I would have used you’d think she wouldn’t have that kind of bad press.
@flbeachbride: I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie and thought it could have been a lot better, that being said I knew what I was getting into… it wasn’t supposed to be the best movie ever :) But it was cute enough for my Matinee bucks.

Yes Miss Frenchie, I was smart enough to go for a matinee so no harm done. And I did have some fabulously delicious popcorn :)

What I didn’t get about the premise of the movie is that the bride RIGHT AFTER them got the other slot at the venue. So wouldn’t she have been JUST AS MAD that the date changed?? The coordinator would have told THAT girl that there was a mixup and her date was XYZ. So the whole premise of the movie was stupid and totally impossible and I may as well have been watching a movie where dogs talk. (And at least in those movies you always go “AWWW!” at the dogs!)

It’s too bad you didn’t see the ending, because it was actually very sweet, and kind of made me like the movie! I never once treated anything in the movie as remotely realistic, BUT I do think it was an overblown, exaggerated version of what CAN happen to some womens’ friendships when it comes to the big W. But, to respond, one of the girls simply needed to change their date, and the problem would have been solved…..it’s easy to say the planner should have fixed it, but what exactly could she have done to fix it? Some screw ups are big enough that nothing can really be done…..

@West Coast Bride:
Yes, oddly enough I am intrigued about the ending..I was bummed when the pilot announced we were almost in Chicago ;) I also missed the VERY beginning of it, so I have some catching up to do sometime, maybe when it’s on HBO :)

HAHA i just watched it– i forgot that i hounded my fiance to put it on his netflix list (And after putting up a “its going to be a waste of your time” comment, he did!) It was cute… but you are absolutely right..in the REAL world… i would have had it out with the planner first. Sure, i’m sure I would have been annoyed or more if my BFF wouldn’t change the date, etc…. but clearly…its a movie =) LOVED Anne Hathaway’s Dress though!

My girls and I went to see this the day it came out as the first official wedding thing I did since getting engaged (besides picking my bridal party, obviously). That was the first thought I had! I would have been like, “Um, hell no you aren’t going to make us sort this out. That’s you’re job homie!” I would have also pointed out that the girl they let have the date came in AFTER them and should have her date stripped since they signed the contract first. And then I would have probably blogged all about the horrible “service” so the planner would take a hit with business for the next year.

Haha, too much?
