Mrs. French Bulldog's Picture
Mrs. French Bulldog, Orange County Age and Occupation: 28, Administrative Assistant & Interior Design Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Purchasing Analyst Engagement Date: November 8, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: Bernardo Winery About Me: I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas and Laguna Niguel; although I've lived in Orange County, CA most my life, I'm a Southerner at heart. I work full time for a Commercial General Contractor (aka my father) and I go to school for Interior Design at night. I love modern design, music, wine, crafting, DMailing, my family, my Westies, and of course, Mr Frenchie! Mr Frenchie and I met 3 years ago on Match.com and have been best friends ever since. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
About Mrs. French Bulldog

Mr Frenchie says he had my ring for THREE weeks before he proposed this past November… if you remember, our trip to Robin’s Brothers took place in JUNE. I was getting really impatient, and he held onto it for THREE WEEKS! If that wasn’t torture enough, three friends of mine got engaged in those three weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t have been happier for them. They’re my friends, and they’re with amazing guys, but yes, I was jealous. Like 98% happy, 2% jealous. You know what I mean? Come on, we looked at rings in June and he had yet to propose by November.

So, when Mr Frenchie checked to make sure we had nothing going on one Saturday, I had a feeling is was finally going to happen. The night before, I even tested the waters… we were leaving dinner and couldn’t figure out what to do next, so I suggested we go to The Montage. “Going to the Montage” for us means going to the public beach behind the Montage, where the resort landscaped up to the cliff and put out benches for people to sit on and enjoy the view. We used to go here all the time when we first started dating.

Mr Frenchie fell right into my trap and said he thought we could go there tomorrow night (Saturday). I was totally on to him at this point, but I didn’t want him to know, or jinx it, so I just said, “Yeah, I don’t have a jacket anyway, so that sounds like a good idea.” We ended up renting movies and going back to my house.
On Saturday morning I woke up and got ready. Like, READY-READY, you know—toe nail polish, exfoliated, and everything. I called Mr Frenchie on the way to Tall Mouse to run a errand, and I found out later this was when he took to opportunity to call my dad, with no chance of me answering the phone, since I wasn’t home.

After Tall Mouse, Mr Frenchie took me to breakfast. I’d been telling him I needed to take him to Dana Point Harbor to get bagels. The Bagel Shop there has the best bagels, and for a guy who didn’t eat bagels a few months ago, he went all in and got a Harbor Special with Lox. (A Harbor Special is a toasted bagel with tomatoes, red onions, and lemon pepper - SO GOOD). This was such a momentous occasion that I had to take a picture.

After the Harbor, we pretty much wasted time until dinner, got his car washed (because some birds attacked it at the harbor), and looked at watches at the mall.

For dinner, Mr Frenchie took me to our favorite restaurant, Park Ave, in Stanton, CA. You may remember that this was a wedding venue option. We sat at the bar (our usual spot) and had some yummy dirty martinis and THE BEST BURGER. It was perfectly “us”.

After dinner, Mr Frenchie drove us to the Montage. Walking to our bench I was so nervous. Most likely not as nervous as Mr Frenchie, but my heart was pounding. We sat on a our bench for a while when he made an excuse to stand up - he tried tickling my feet, and I jerked my very ticklish feet out of the way he stood up to chase them. Then he stood there for awhile, and because I was nervous, I asked him why he was standing… stupid, stupid, stupid. :-/ So, he sat back down. We talked a little longer, and her made another excuse to stand up. This time, he got down on his knee and proposed! OF COURSE, I said, “YES!”

The Frenchies Get Engaged : wedding proposal Best
We took about 10 pictures trying to get a good one, and this was the best we could do. Wow, I must really like you guys to post this on the internet.

Did you sense your proposal coming, or was is a complete surprise?

Awww, you both look so happy! See?! My theory about how we (lovely ladies, that is) try to (unknowingly) thwart our men immediate pre-proposal continues to be proven true!

Oh, mine was a total surprise — and I had waited nearly a YEAR from when we purchased the diamond, so Frenchie, I hear ya loud and clear.

Aww y’all are SO cute!

Mine was a total surprise…I never went with Mr. BF to purchase the diamond or go shopping for one either. He chose the perfect ring on his own and surprised me on my bday!

Miss Bruchetta, your theory SO holds true. I naturally did the same thing and made it the most difficult ANYONE could make it lol.

And Miss Frenchie, you guys are too adorable!! You look so happy, how cute!

As for the question, I had no idea - it was a complete and total surprise. EVERYONE around me knew…and I mean everyone…but somehow they all kept it from me =o) He chose my dream ring (with a little help from my sister) and had it shpped to DC where he proposed on teh steps of his old townhouse…where we had our very first kiss!

That bagel looks awesome, I want one!! I had no idea it was happening, which I’m so glad cuz I couldn’t have stood it if I had an idea. We had browsed through jewelry counters about a year before just to get an idea of what I would like and I pushed it out of my head then since I knew it wouldn’t happen anytime soon after that. Which was nice cuz when it did happen I was completely surprised and cried like a blubbering idiot. Wish we would have thought to take pics…

I knew it was going to happen within the next few months but he really surprised me when he did it earlier than I expected and on a day that seemed so normal up to that point! He didn’t show one bit of nerves all day, so I was taken completely off-guard! And we took a million photos, which I’m so happy about. He did a great job :-)

Ladies the bagel IS awesome! You should totally make it at home…
Ingredients:
Bagel (fresh bagels work best obvs)
Cream Cheese
Tomato (sliced obvs)
Red Onion (sliced obvs)
Lemon Pepper
Lox (optional, there is also a version w/ avocado)
Toast the bagel, slather w/ cream cheese, layer ingredients… I’ve found tomatoes first works best… sprinkle with lemon pepper and enjoy.
And that is how you make the Frenchie Engagement Day Bagel aka The Harbor Special

That so happened to me! He bought the ring at the beginning of January and held on to it for over a month! And, the last weekend in January, good friends of ours got engaged!

@Miss French Bulldog: thanks for the recipe. The bagels are the problem. We don’t get good ones here or rather we’re spoiled after the few years in Brooklyn. Oh how I miss Bagel Stop (or was it Store?) in Williamsburg.

I like the part where you asked why he was standing up… poor Mr. Frenchie, hehe!
I knew it was coming but my Mister did surprise me with the actual proposal (day/time, etc.) I had no idea he was proposing. I’m slow. :)

Btw: I’m going to try to make the Harbor Special, thanks for the recipe!

My proposal was a complete surprise! He had picked out the ring and asked my dad’s permission about 2 months before he proposed - and everyone kept it quiet! I was really impressed that all my friends did that :)
After the proposal, he had set up a surprise engagement party too! It was awesome - and just gave me even more reason to LOVE him more!!

I totally knew it was coming, but not for as long as he did. FH got my ring3 months before he popped the question. However in the weeks leading up to it, he (and his helpers) kind of gave it away. First, he planned an entire day of activity. Anyone who knows us knows i am the planner. Secondly, I got a call from my sister (his helper) saying she needed to speak to my grandpa. She never needs to speak to him. Since I had told FH he had to ask my grandpa first out of respect, I figured this it was what it was for. That being said, I was super nervous to. Such a cute story Miss Frenchie, and YUMMM bagels with lox

And Miss Bruschetta, my nervousness caused some seriously poor choice of conversation. Possibly the most unromantic conversation ever. Mutated animals. So add another one to pre-proposal thwarting. FH said it was really hard o turn the conversation back to proposing after my diversion

You’re hilarious, Frenchie. I totally tried to trap Mr. Latte a couple of times…and my friends too. Very cute story!!!

Awwww … what a cute story! I had NO CLUE about Mr. E’s proposal. He thought I was totally on to him, but we had been ring shopping several times and he kept saying he “needed more time” to do well in his job before planning a wedding. So I knew it was coming, i just figured it was a looong ways off (much to my dismay).

He planned a trip to New York for us and I was still clueless — don’t know why I didn’t connect “ring shopping,” “trip to New York” and “staying in a nicer hotel than usual.” It happened in Central Park. It was a year ago tomorrow!!!
