Mrs. French Bulldog's Picture
Mrs. French Bulldog, Orange County Age and Occupation: 28, Administrative Assistant & Interior Design Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Purchasing Analyst Engagement Date: November 8, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: Bernardo Winery About Me: I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas and Laguna Niguel; although I've lived in Orange County, CA most my life, I'm a Southerner at heart. I work full time for a Commercial General Contractor (aka my father) and I go to school for Interior Design at night. I love modern design, music, wine, crafting, DMailing, my family, my Westies, and of course, Mr Frenchie! Mr Frenchie and I met 3 years ago on Match.com and have been best friends ever since. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
About Mrs. French Bulldog

Mama Frenchie and I decided to start our search at David’s Bridal (that’s right I linked to a wiki, not their website muahaha), because I just wanted to see what silhouettes looked best on me. And hey, if I fell in love with a dress there, then imagine the money we’d save! :)

So one Sunday, Mama Frenchie and I went to our appointment at DB. Yes, I made an appointment, and yes, I TOTALLY recommend doing so, especially if you are going on a weekend - three girls came in without appointments after me and were reprimanded and had to wait.

Lemme just run you thought my time at DB…

  • I was told to wait near a podium for my bridal assistant. We’ll call her BA.
  • BA told me to pick out a pair of shoes, preferably the height I was planning on wearing the day of. This is where I had my first “d’oh” moment, because I totally meant to bring my own shoes.
  • I gave BA the printed pages of the 3 dresses I was told to bring in, with an idea of what I was looking for.
  • BA took me and 2 dresses to my dressing box. Sorry, it wasn’t big enough to call a room. But both Mama Frenchie and I managed to fit inside… somehow.

  • I tried on the dresses and then hung out in the room in my bra and panties while my mom went to find BA and more dresses.
  • BA and Mama Frenchie came back with about 12 dresses and put them ALL in the box! I found this odd, not only because THERE.WAS.NO.ROOM, but because I was told when I made my appointment that I was only allowed to have 3 dresses in the box with me at a time.
  • I tried on ALL those dresses and found two I actually kinda liked. Now, I say kinda, because they were okay, but nothing I would have bought. One dress was the right silhouette, but that was it. I hated everything else. The other dress was one that my mom loved, but I knew I could do better somewhere else.

Here is a HORRIBLE picture of me in the second dress, crammed in my box. :)

I cut off my head because Mame Frenchie took the picture mid-smile, and I look ridiculous!

I know tons of ladies have found beautiful dresses at DB. I wish I looked as lovely as Mrs Spring Roll, in her DB dress, but the picture above was the best DB could do for me, so it was time to move on.

* A piece of advice if you’re thinking of going to DB: Make sure to check the box saying you don’t want them to give your name, number, and email address out (unless of course, you do). I did this, and I still received 12 spam emails from DB before I was able to unsubscribe. But at least I didn’t get emails and calls from anyone else.

Did you find your dress in the first store? Or, like me, did you have to keep looking?

I had a similar experience at DB, where I just waited there in my undies while the lady went and got me dresses; and it was the only store where I really didn’t get to pick out any dresses on my own.

I did find one dress there I loved and would have bought, but then after I try it on, she tells me it doesn’t come in extra length. Hmm, kinda wish I had known that beforehand!

I had a fantastic experience at DB….my BA was very sweet and helpful and brought me other dresses she thought I’d like, and I ended up getting one of the ones she picked out.
However, I know that is one case, and I’ve heard a lot of horror stories too. I guess it depends on which store you go to and whether your BA is helpful or not.

I went to DB on a whim with my mom, tried on four dresses, and walked out with my wedding dress. I love it, it’s perfect, and I can’t imagine a different dress.

My experience wasn’t fabulous - but I wasn’t going in with any expectations or plans, so the first few dresses they brought me were not my taste or style at all.

I had a horrendous experience at DB- to the point I will never go there again under any circumstances. I went there to try on dresses to get an idea. I am busty and was prepared to have a hard time finding dresses. My BA was rude and insulting and told me flat out “If you had a better shape up top, we’d have more dresses for you to try on- you might want to think about some personal changes”. I cried and walked out of the store, and she had the balls to chase me out of the store asking if I was going to buy anything. It was horrendous. I ended up finding my dress at Kleinfeld’s in Manhattan at their sample sale- and it was the best experience I could have ever imagined!
I hope you find you dream dress easily!

I got there 10 minutes before my appointment, along with two other walk ins, and they took the walk ins and made me wait 40 minutes before a sales associated got to the store to help me!!! The woman was COMPLETELY unapologetic, I mentioned to her that my appointment was at 2pm and we couldn’t wait until 2:30 for someone to get there. She basically said, “yeah, what’s your point???” Luckily I had a friend with me who used to manage another DB several years ago and she took over immediately, we insisted on looking ourselves.

We were there for two hours and not a SINGLE person came to see how we were doing or ask if we needed anything. I did happen to find some really lovely dresses, but I’ll be going to a different DB to buy it in a few months.

I also went to davids bridal to find my dress and it was an aweful experience! The lady helping me only brought dresses she said she would wear at her wedding and decided to walk away and help the woman next to me because (as she told my mother) it was a definite sale!

I went to DB, first time I made an appt on a Monday and I got plenty of attention, but the dresses still were not up my alley. I went again on a weekend, with an app’t and having done more research on their dresses, and was treated like garbage, basically told after I tried on three dresses that they didn’t have time for me and I should come back another time. As for the dresses, they were not what I was looking for. I had to go to a TON of shops before I found my perfect dress, so hang in there!

i loathed my 3 hours at DB…..the girl refused to lisen to me about not wanting to wear their store crinny, it was too short so i couldn’t tell what the heck anything would look like, and i didn’t find anything i liked.

but the silver lining, we don’t have a DB in my hometown so we had to drive an hour to get to one…and i ended up finding my dress at another bridal salon in that town!

If you’re looking for better quality gowns in the same price range, try Alfred Angelo. I have nothing but great things to say about their service and I loved the choices of bridal and bridesmaid gown. They also come in SHORT so believe it or not my 5′2″ body didn’t need any alterations!

The key to DB is to give a FAKE phone number and e-mail address. Or if you’re feeling particularly devilish, give out an e-mail of an enemy. But you give out your stuff, and…well, they are evil.

i’m real mad with DB about the whole privacy thing too. even with checking the box about NOT wanting to receive stuff, i still did, and took me months of unsubscribing before i managed to get out of all the lists! gaaah!

I had a horrible experience at DB. And although I know many girls have found their WD there, I would not recommend it. The quality of service I received, along with my whole dress trying on experience was awful. Kudos to you if you had a great experience and got your dress!

I also did not like my DB experience. I went once looking for a dress and did not like anything I tried on, plus my assisstant was not helpful at all. I went to another DB to look for bridesmaids dresses and had an awesome experience. My cousin and mom bought their dresses at that store. I went again with other bridesmaids and hated that experience the most. Most of my bridesmaids picked dresses at DB and I also bought my shoes there. I loved my shoes!

I did not buy my dress from DB. I bought my dress from the third store that I visisted. I loved my dress. Keep searching!

I have to say, I never thought I would be a DB fan but I went in on a whim without an appointment with my mom and her best friend because it was in the same parking lot as the place we had lunch and came out with my dress. My assistant was amazingly helpful. She gave us the catalogue and told us to fold down the corners of dresses I wanted to try and when I told her I wanted to see a specific feature (i.e. corset back) she found one for me. In fact, I told her my wedding was a ways off and this was my first time trying on dresses so I didn’t plan to purchase right from the start but she was perfectly attentive throughout. I also refused to wear the provided long line bra and slip and she didn’t try to push them on me. I didn’t take the dress home that day but went back on the weekend with my parents to try it on once more and purchase and the woman was not as helpful but, I knew I was only trying on one dress and either buying it or not so I didn’t really need help.

I filled out their online form and checked the box to NOT receive correspondence. I have since been receiving so many phone calls and emails that I refuse to buy from them for that alone. I think it is unethical business practices and they will never get my hard earned money.

I checked the box and I still get spam AND calls. That really pisses me off. I had to block a few numbers.

The people there was so pushy too! I didn’t want to buy the frickin’ dress and she kept asking me if I was sure because I couldn’t get the $50 discount if I waited too long. Then she called me and tried to convince me to buy the damn thing over the phone. I’m glad I didn’t, turns out my FH hates the dress. lol.

Oh and the seamstress came over and told me to get the dress altered elsewhere because it would be cheaper. Wow.

I’m still glad I went though since I was able to try on dresses in my size. I was swimming in the dresses everywhere else and it’s just really hard to see what they’ll look like. DB made me feel better about the poofy dresses I loved so much. I wouldn’t have gotten the dress I did if not for my experience at DB.

I actually had a great experience with DB so far. I haven’t gotten any emails or phone calls from anyone except to say the dresses were ready, and when I had to take mine back cuz they sewing wasn’t right, they gladly gave me another dress. Also, when we first went we were told to walk around and pick out dresses to try on - oh and of course we got put in one of the boxes too, even though I wanted one of the bigger rooms

I avoided DB like the plague. I’ve heard of wayyy too many bad experiences there and wasn’t even willing to give them a try. Plus, they don’t carry the designer I wanted anyways so yeah.

I originally didn’t want to go to DB. I ended up trying there after not being able to find anything at other salons around town. It ended up being fantastic. I went in knowing a dress I wanted to try. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty quiet in the store. I actually *did* find my dress there! By the time I went there I really knew what style looked good on me from other appointments and a lot more what I was looking for. I think they can be good, but its best if you can go at off-peak hours.

DB has always seemed crazy, crowded and unprofessional so after my first visit I just didn’t return! It is good to get an idea of dress styles though.

Even when I hadn’t I told them I already found my dress so they would leave me alone! I did not like what I experienced there… especially after going to a boutique store and being treated SO amazing.

I had a pretty good experience, myself, at the DB on Barry Road, KCMO. My sister and I went so she could try on a BM dress for a friend’s wedding. I hadn’t tried on dresses yet, so we talked to the lady and she said she could fit me in as a walk-in in 45min.

So we wandered about, came back, and even though my BA knew the wedding was a year and a half away, she was really helpful. I was in the little box, but she brought me only 2-3 dresses at a time, took them away promptly so it didn’t get crowded, and only brought me dresses that had what I was looking for (lace, a-line, v-neck or straps).

I found a dress that I reeeally liked (but it’s not on their website! D:), but I just couldn’t buy a dress before having a reception site reserved. So. :P We’ll see if I go back and get it (if it’s still there!). ^_^

I used to be a BA at a davids here in NY for 2 years and have seen it all! Anyone who does go to one to try on gowns…stay IN the gown you’re wearing when the BA or you mom/friend etc. Goes to pick other dresses so you’re not in your undies! Also now DB allows you to purchase certain gowns online so you could bypass the *rude* BAs.

I had a great experience at DB. Spent about an hour or hour and a half there and found my dress — third one I tried on. It was just a couple days before Christmas, and I was the only girl in the store. The assistant was lovely and helpful, and she just let us browse the rack ourselves and pull off what we liked. Although the one I bought was actually one she chose after getting an idea of my tastes!

Last month I was at DB to try on some dresses for my wedding. It was the first place I had gone dress looking and it was just me and one of my besties. I had absolutely no intentions of buying anything, mostly just getting an idea of what kind of dresses I should get for my petite body. My BA was awesome. I was worried that she was going to BS her way to get a sale out of me but she was really honest in a nice way. Six dresses later and nothing that worked for me, I was going to put DB out of my mind for a dress completely. We walked through one last time when I saw the discount rack. There it was exactly what I was looking for, different original and looking very expensive. It only got better when I looked at the dress right next to it and saw it was my bestie’s wedding dress! Seems like fate! So I ask BA for details and it is a designer that came in for DB, Monique Lou and it was only for a short time, this was the last dress of hers in the store and IT IS $100 original $1200!!!! I tried it on and although it is a little big with the money I saved on not buying an expensive dress I am going to put into making this dress fit like a glove. I never believed in that stuff about the dress choosing you but after trying this on I am a true believer in it.

This is the down side to being there that day. So you know how when you are trying on your dresses it is a happy go lucky, carefree setting??? You are in and out of the dressing room and in this case since it was just me and my bestie our purses were both in the room although we were never venturing far from the room, it was always in my sight. While I was trying on “the one” our BA and my bestie were admiring the dress literally 2 feet from the room when I saw something out of the corner of my eye look like my fitting room door closed. At first I didnt think much of it but to be on the safe side I open my door to find a woman standing over our purses like she was getting ready to either go through them or take them. Funny thing was my room was full of white wedding dresses and she had a lime green bridesmaid dress on. She said I must be in the wrong room. Nothing was missing from our purses but it was obvious what her intent was. So ladies be careful! This is supposed to be a carefree place with and it is easy to get caught up in the moment and not pay attention to people around the fitting room!
