Mrs. Cowboy Boot's Picture
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

We’ve decided it’s time to move houses. Although we’re staying in Santa Fe, we’re opting for a lil’ lower rent and place that’s unfurnished where we can begin building our own collection of furniture (and have a place to stow any wedding gifts). We’ve been in our current place for two years now–it was our first home in Santa Fe–and we’re sad to see it go. It’s the longest we’ve ever lived anywhere together and it really felt like home. (This is starting to sound like a bad poem.)

But, it’s the truth. Mr. Cowboy Boot spent a lot of time planting a vegetable garden, building a compost bin, and fixing up the property altogether. It’s our puppies’ first home and the place we first became “parents” (to the dogs, of course). It’s where we came home to after getting engaged in Italy. It’s our first house, not apartment. It’s where our families stayed when they came to visit. It’s where we’ve had some serious talks about wedding plans, life, jobs, and finances. Essentially, it’s where we really got serious.

Odin and Rio in the front door

As an ode to the place where our love really started to grow, I thought I’d share some funny pictures and moments from the house we’re leaving behind and give you a sneak peek at our new house, where we’ll be living as a married couple after our wedding in October. Oh, and the house we’re moving into is for sale, which may or may not have started some thinking about buying on our part…

Odin in one of his first days home

Rio on her first day home

The view from our yard–I’ll miss that windmill

The dogs confused about Mr. CB’s painting

Weighing skinny-minnie Rio

Mr. Cowboy Boot and Odin as a puppy, sleeping

Now for the new place we will be calling home. Oh, and it has a tiny bit of furniture so we can work on our collection slowly and buy nicer quality stuff, instead of rushing into cheap stuff for the sake of having it.

It will be different, planning a wedding from a new house. I won’t have my comfy chair where I surfed the internet for hours at a time, my spot in the bookshelf where I kept my magazine tear-outs, sample invitations, planning binder and other inspiration, or my corner where I’d been shoving Ball jars, birdcages, raffia ribbon, and other starts to DIY projects. Not to mention, this adds a few extra boxes to our moving load.

But, it’s not only about wedding storage. It’s about change. We’ve moved before. We’ve moved across the country together, before. But this time, we finally felt settled. And this time, change is making me more nervous than it ever did before. I’m just glad to have Mr. CB (and our pups) there to deal with change together. This is just another growing pain: a chance to deal with the ups, downs, and challenges that life throws our way. Yes, it was our decision to move and uproot ourselves from a very comfortable place for the sake of saving a little money. But, together, I have faith that Mr. CB and I can make this new (and weirdly not our) place our own.

Did you move in the middle of wedding planning? Did it change the dynamic in your relationship at all?

I’m graduating in two weeks and it’s becoming painfully apparent that we might not be able to stay in the city we have grown to love. You definitely do grow attached to your surroundings and the memories attached, and it will definitely be harder to plan because we’re having the wedding here so going elsewhere will be tough! Your new home looks nice though, and I’m so jealous that you have a green house!!

It’s hard not to be semi emotional with change, especially when you have memories that are connected to the place you lived.
But your new home looks fabulous! I can picture the dogs (We have a chocolate lab) who would love a new place to explore! That might be amusing just to see the dogs get a feel for the new place!

wow your new house looks rad!
I love the “green room” addition and the breakfast table outdoors!
Are you guys planning on staying in santa fe indefinitely?

We lived in a cute little casita in NM when our relationship started to get “serious”. That house (and the little neighborhood we lived in) has so much good memories for me. When we moved away, I really felt like a chapter of our life was closing. That was our house! Our home. Even though we didn’t own it, that was really where we became a family.
We have a new house where we live now, but it’s still taking some getting used to - partially because it’s way to big for the two of us! When we move again (back to the states) I want it to be for good. I want us to settle down and put our roots in.

You should plant a commemorative tree (or cactus! ;)) at your old house before you leave!

Mr. Bruschetta and I moved from our parents’ houses to an apartment. It’s great being around each other full time, but I’m totally “meh” about the apartment…and really can’t wait until he graduates and starts working, so we can talk seriously about our first big move together.

Wow, you new place is gorgeous! I love the kitchen — and is that a greenhouse?!

Oh wow, your new place looks amazing!
My fiance and I also recently left our first home together–we moved in order to buy our own place. We sometimes get nostalgic for our old place (we lived there for two years), but it’s amazing how quickly our new home became home. I’m sure it will happen for you guys, too!

LOVE the new home! The homes up in Santa Fe are gorgeous! I’ll be moving from New Mexico to Georgia three months before our wedding, so things are bound to get a little crazy around that time. Yikes!

Your new home is adorable! I love it!

My FI and I moved in together before we were engaged- I sold my house to move into his apartment until we found a house to buy together, we found it bought it, and didn’t get engaged until over a year later!

Your new house is beautiful!! I love the green house! and your pups are adorable!! My guy and I moved in together 4 years ago, but for the past 6 months we’ve been apart due to my military obligations… I’ve been in Iraq for the past 2 months and planning our wedding from here on the internet! He bought a home about 6 hours from where we were living before, so when I get home I’ll be living in a TOTALLY new house!

Your new house is GORGEOUS! The vaulted ceiling and fireplace in the sitting room, and the conservatory…swoon! I think you guys are going to be really happy there. I like lots of windows and light.

The first place I lived with the Mr was really beautiful, but the landlords were such assholes that we hated every second. The place we rent now is much more ordinary, but it does have bigger windows and it just FEELs happier.

We’re moving 800 miles from our rented apartment in Dallas, to our first house (we’re not renters anymore, yay’!) on a north Georgia mountain in two weeks! I’m supposed to be making belly bands for our invitations right now, and instead I’m assembling cardboard boxes. But it’s so exciting, and we can’t wait to make lots of new memories in our new home. You know what they say…”life is a rollercoaster, you’ve just gotta ride it”. Your new house is GORGEOUS. Good luck with the move!

Cute house! I cannot wait until we start house hunting…but we’re putting that off until after the wedding, as we are moving cities!

@boothbride: Thanks for your kind words about my dogs! They’re fun! Odin is a mix from a shelter here in New Mexico. He definitely has some Pit Bull in him. We think he might have black Lab in him, too (he LOVES food–such a Lab thing). He’s uber-smart. He learned “doggie yoga” in one day which is essentially just one position: downward dog. ; )
