About Mrs. French Bulldog

One very rainy morning, Mama Frenchie, Sister Frenchie, and I met BM F for my appointment with Lynn at Jinny’s Bridal in Huntington Beach. Knowing in advance that Jinny’s didn’t have Anastasia, printed out a couple dresses I liked and brought them with me.

And of course, Anastasia, just in case.

Lynn immediately showed me a dress by Maggie Sottero that had been very popular and flattering on a couple brides in the past. I wasn’t a HUGE fan of this dress, but I told Lynn I would try on anything, and off we went. While Lynn helped me get into dress, Mama Frenchie, Sister Frenchie, and BM F found more dresses for me to try on. They also checked out the BM dresses. At one point, Mama Frenchie even found a dress for another bride in the salon.

Ultimately, my favorite dress was the first dress Lynn had shown me - I loved the way it fit, and how skinny it made me look. I tried on about 10 other dresses, but I kept coming back to THAT DRESS. Sister Frenchie and BM F really liked the dress, but Mama Frenchie didn’t like it very much… because she really liked the dress that was discontinued, and thought my new love was “too busy” and “too fancy” for my venue. So, to please her, I tried on 2 more dresses which were pretty, but just weren’t me. I really like the first dress.

Since Lynn had another appointment, and I still had to get my deposit back from La Soie before I could purchase another dress, Lynn wrote down the three top contenders for me, and I planned to come back.

Did anyone in your entourage dislike your favorite wedding dress choice?

Yes and it was annoying. Because there was always a tie between two dresses. And it’s exhausting trying on dress after dress analyzing what you do or don’t like about a gown- especially with other girls opinions being floated around.

@Sparkles: Yeah and especially when those 2 dresses are both corset back. I felt so badly for Lynn having to tie and untie me from all those dresses. Plus, she didn’t believe in half-assing the tie-ups, she wanted me to get the proper fit, which I really appreciated, but still.

Ack, come on! I wanted to see your new love!

Luckily no one seemed to dislike the dress I chose. I know my sister and her hubby preferred my second choice, but they didn’t mind the one I chose either.

my mom & sister didn’t like any of the dresses i picked out… the only one my mom liked was the one i tried as a joke (it figures)
however, i was on the fence about one dress when my mom (who still wasn’t crazy about it) mentioned adding cap sleeves to the lace jacket. as soon as i saw what it would look like, that was it, it was my dress.
so while my mom had the strongest opinions about not liking my dresses i ultimately picked one because of a change she suggested.
opinions can be helpful and frustrating all at the same time : )

The dress I chose in the end is not one my mom or sister particularly likes. They both have a certain picture of what a wedding dress should look like (big and poofy) which doesn’t fit with me. It is frustrating at times and I wish that I could have found a dress that the three of us all liked, but in the end I had to go with what me and my checkbook wanted. At least my friends are there to tell me how awesome the dress is.

Interestingly though, the dress I ended up buying was one that when I saw in the magazine and on the hanger I had doubts about, but loved it when I tried it on.

I did it by sending photos of me in the dresses - no one liked any of the dresses I liked. I ultimately went with the dress that made me happy to put on - regardless of what anyone else said / thought.

My mum lives in the Netherlands, and I in Canada, so unfortunately she wont be doing any wedding dress shopping with me. While this breaks my heart (because we are so close)…after reading your post I have a slight sigh of relief that I will not have the issue of her not liking something I love…cause she certainly wouldnt tell me after I buy it! hah….

But still…I’d rather have her opinon.. :)

And to sort of answer your question…aside from me liking the dress, my biggest concern is my fiance…I want to pick somethig I know HE will melt for…which may or may not be something my BM’s love.

Not yet! Both of my top two choices are a favorite of my mom and the two bridesmaids that have seen them. Now it’s just a matter of either trying some more on or choosing between those two!

Yep! I tried on the 1872 and loooved it but my MOH didn’t and I’m glad I went with the other dress I loved because the 1872 just wasn’t as flattering! But, I say go with your gut!

I had a similar dilemma, and my decision ultimately came down to which dress looked better on me in pictures. Although the choice seemed tough at first, after I saw the pictures . . . there was no contest. So if you’re not 100% confident in your decision, I would take a digital camera with you the next time . . . hope this helps!

When it came to the dress I chose, I no longer wanted or needed anyone’s approval. I knew it was great and that was that!
