A little over a month ago, Mr. Deviled Egg and I had our engagement photo session with our photographer, Ticia Mangino of Ticia Mangino Photography. We decided to take our photos in Pittsburgh, because that’s where we met. We also thought it would be nice to have the photos taken there, since the wedding photos will be taken in New Castle, PA.
We wanted to use the Pittsburgh skyline as a backdrop, so Station Square seemed like a great location because of its views of the city and its interesting layout of old train cars and newer brick exteriors.
About two weeks after our session, Ticia posted about 50 images from our session on her website for us to view, and we had a very difficult time narrowing down favorites for our guest book (included in our photography package) and to frame for display at our reception. There were so many that we loved!
Here are some of my favorites from the session. (All photos are courtesy or Ticia Mangino Photography)

I really liked how the images were a perfect compromise between candid and posed. The direction she gave us during the engagement shoot helped to relax us (no fake or forced smiling for us!) and I think the angles and poses worked wonderfully.
Ticia’s style was a major draw for us in selecting her to shoot our wedding. I initially learned about Ticia from my hairstylist, who suggested her after I mentioned having trouble finding an affordable photographer who took the type of photos I liked. My hairstylist gave me her contact info and told me I would be pleasantly surprised—I sure was!
With my career in a media-based field, I’ve always been drawn to photo-journalistic wedding photos, but also understand the need for having some posed shots in the mix (family portraits and such). With Ticia, I think we get everything we were looking for in a photographer.
While traveling with Ticia to and from the photo shoot, I was surprised to learn that a lot of her business involves traveling to shoot weddings. She said she shoots weddings in places like Texas, Arkansas, Nevada, Ohio, and Arizona, in addition to weddings in Western Pennsylvania. (I think the Deviled Egg wedding will be the closest-to-home wedding she’ll shoot this year.)
I’m really looking forward to working with Ticia on our wedding day and to seeing how the whole day looks through her lens.
