Breakfast, Anyone?

May 5th, 2009 @ 12:39 pm by Mrs. Joey

Over the weekend, Mary, our amazing baker friendor, sent me a yummy list of suggestions for the breakfast bar. I’m hungry just looking at it. Here’s what she’s contemplating:

  • Orange poppy seed muffins
  • Applesauce cake/bread
  • Banana nut bread
  • Blueberry muffins
  • Fresh fruit tartlet with vanilla pastry cream
  • Sausage-cheese biscuit roll-ups

Scones (many options there):

  • Maple bacon cheddar
  • Blueberry
  • Ginger pecan
  • Orange cranberry
  • Chocolate chip

(Really, the base dough could have anything added to it.)

I really wanted orange poppy seed muffins. I saw a recipe for it in a Donna Hay cookbook, and I was sold on them.

What do you think? Which breakfast treat would convince you to get up early on a Saturday morning?

Those all sound deliscious but like you, I’m leaning towards the orange poppy seed muffins… and also the Fresh fruit tartlet with vanilla pastry cream sounds fabulous.

Mmm…sounds wonderful. I will have to check out the orange poppyseed muffin idea. One day I was seriously craving lemon poppyseed and there were none to be found. I always like to see fresh fruit and flavored coffee creamers, too.

It all sounds so good! Make sure you have dental floss on hand in case some of the poppy seeds try to misbehave in your teeth!

I love the sound of orange poppy muffins & banana nut bread! Everything sounds delish but are you going to have healthier options for people too? Right now it sounds like carb overload and I know my FMIL would be upset if we didn’t have healthy options like fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal or granola, etc.

I’m a sucker for scones. Blueberry or chocolate chip - I’m sold! Everything on that menu would get me up in the morning. Yum!!

@MissCamera: We’re trying to avoid plates and utensils. We’ll have bananas, apples and other fruit we won’t have to cut up. These are just the items Mary is thinking of baking.

Yummy! You’re breakfast food is kicking my morning smoothie’s bottom. I think it would be cute to do mini-muffins. That way they are easier to eat, plus your guests can try out several of the delicious flavors.

I really like savory scones, so I’m voting for the maple, bacon, cheddar scones! I don’t feel like they’re done a lot, and can be super, super tasty if done well :)

Not on your list but a recent love of mine…strawberry muffins. SO divinely tasty, and I think a little unexpected because you don’t see strawberries in baked goods as much. I made a batch and feel in love!
