About Mrs. Apple Cider

I was lucky to spend the weekend with my beautiful grandmother. She has been a huge part of my life and seems to be very excited about our upcoming wedding. While I was perusing the house, I came across something amazing. Someone took my grandmother’s wedding invitation and created this gorgeous drawing on top of it.

THE WORDS:
Mrs. Clyde Raymound Jordan
requests the honour of your presence
at the marriage of her daughter
Carolyn Huntington
to
Douglas Hendon Clark
Lieutenant, Medical Corps, Army of The United States
Thursday the eleventh of September
at four o’clock
Elizabethtown Baptist Church
Elizabethtown, North Carolina

After seeing this, it makes me want to incorporate some family wedding pictures into our wedding. I am going to start that process… SOON. I did find this gorgeous picture of my grandparents:

I am going to ask my grandmother to write the story of how my grandparents met and their wedding story down for me. Wouldn’t that be special to have?

How are you incorporating your family stories into your wedding?

Beautiful! I love the flowers in the illustration (calla lillies and maybe a gardenia?). Did you grandparents have these varieties at their wedding?

I spend a lot of time looking through my grandparents’ wedding album, it would be awesome if they had an invite like this! Beautiful!

I love the drawing over the invite, but that bride is blonde and it looks like your grandmother had dark hair! Weird-maybe someone was just practicing their drawing skills or is the blonde bride someone else they knew?

That is beautiful! I recently went searching through my parents’ house and found some lovely pictures of their wedding. I’d love to do a guestbook with pictures of our parents’, grandparents’, and great-grandparents’ weddings, but there are some touchy divorces.

I’m also considering making huge family tree posters mounted on foam core on both my and the groom’s families for the rehearsal dinner. I think it’d be fun for each side to get to know the other family that way.

@Sakoro: I caught that too Sakoro - I asked my grandmother and she said that the artist envisioned “bride” as dark blonde and she wanted to be one so she thought it worked.

I was at at wedding where each table was “named” after a married couple in the bride and groom’s family. The escort cards had the guest’s name next to a small picture of the couple on their wedding day. That same picture was in the center of each table (so you could find your table) along with the relation to the bride/groom. I know it was very touching to the grandparents who got to sit at their own table.

Very cool! We’ll have as many family photos as possible at our cake table! I also hope to have family bouquet charms. (I love that old fashioned B&W photo look!)

This is gorgeous! What a great find and fabulous thing to incorporate!

I recently found the marriage certificate and the vow booklet for my maternal grandparents wedding (they went to a justice of the peace)…so special! I’m working on ways to add some of these special elements in to the day, too :)
