A Place for Booty Shaking

May 6th, 2009 @ 1:11 pm by Mrs. Joey

So, a while back I asked for the hive’s advice about having an after party. We knew we wanted to have one, but didn’t know the who, where,, and when. We decided to do a late evening event. The reception ends at 4PM and we’re thinking the after party will start at 9PM. We want some time to take in what just happened (the getting married part), enjoy the fancy hotel room, and maybe take a quick power nap.

As for location, we decided on something central in/near downtown Seattle. We want somewhere accessible by bus or cab, and somewhere away from stadium area of town called SODO. It turns out that there’s a sold-out Kenny Chesney concert that night, and it’s going to be madness.

The guest list? This was a little more controversial with the hive. Should we invite friends who weren’t invited to the wedding, or not? I asked friends who are and are not invited to the wedding, and they all unanimously said that we should invite everyone. There are going to be a few people who might be upset that they aren’t invited to the wedding, but I think there will be so many more who will be happy to just be able to celebrate with old friends.

After many emails sent, we finally found a place for the after party. We’re doing it at a bar called the Rendezvous. We know the place well; Mr. Joey’s band plays a lot of shows there. The price is right (free) and we get a private room (the Red Velvet Lounge) with control over the music. While parking isn’t the best in the neighborhood, it is accessible by many bus routes and cabs. You can find parking if you look. Also, there are tons of bars and restaurants in the area, so if people want get the party started early, or carry on later, they have that option.

I’m so glad we can check our last venue task off the to-do list. Are you throwing an after party?

lol, Kenny Chesney is playing a sold out concert in our wedding city the day of my wedding too! He is giving me a headache wondering if traffic will be a major issue for our guests.

We really want to do something with our friends, wedding party and any guests that want to keep the fun going…but haven’t really firmed up any plans yet. It’s on the to-do list, though, along with 100+ other tasks!

Sounds like it will be a blast. What did you end up deciding about the guest list? Also, for those being invited, do they cover their own drink costs and such?

We rented a luxury B and B near our venue for our immediate family and wedding party. Our wedding will be the dance/cocktail type of party, but we’re looking forward to a more intimate, relaxed kind of night-cap by the pool afterparty :)

Absolutely! The hotel where everyone is staying has a bar downstairs, and they do karaoke on Saturday nights. Since we got engaged at karaoke, its perfect for us - low key and fun!!

Sure am. At the future hubby’s parents house. Our reception ends at nine, and the house is only 5 miles away if that, so it gives people the option of going back to their hotel room, or heading to the house for more drinks, music, etc.

yes! we’re having one at a “duelling pianos” place, but we’ve been surprised by the number of guests who said they’d be coming (we didn’t expect such a high turnout) so now i’m a little nervous that the venue’s too small. eeeeks
