What’s not to love about a crazy, spherical updo? That was my thought after both my initial and second trials with Natalie. But several carefully-worded comments in response to my post, mixed with some of my own lingering doubts, led me to wonder if another ’do might suit me better, and so I started perusing for styles.
~~~ Mr. Bruschetta, you know the drill by now! ~~~
I’ve got temperamental hair — it’s fine, and neither perfectly straight nor predictably wavy — so given the wild card weather in late August, I knew I still needed to plan on an updo. And I loved the idea of a bun, but wanted one that was more classic and bridal (and a little less chaotic and messy) than the previous two attempts. I started obsessing about a chignon-like ’do, and gathered my inspiration photos.
Look! It’s the lovely Mrs. Tiramisu!
My hair pro Natalie was more than willing to give my new idea a try, so we met up this past weekend to attempt a chignon fun, yet classic, chignon. And, here’s what she created…
It was a tad sloppy from the side — and I might want it a teeny tiny bit higher — but aside from those minor tweaks, this look feels oh-so bridal to me. (Natalie tossed in a cute hair pin to accent the ’do, but I don’t think I’ll be using it on the wedding day.) I also feel like this style would be a perfect complement to my dress, and am thrilled Natalie was able to incorporate some of the “woven” style from my original inspiration picture.
I’m happy it felt so secure — one of the benefits of a lower-positioned updo — and since I’ll want my dress and veils (a TBD cathedral design for the ceremony and a Mrs. Sea Breeze original for the reception) to be the focus, I’m content with the simple look of the rest of my hair (which will make a good “anchor” for the veil combs).
I’m also feeling slightly silly that it took me so long (and three trials) to realize that a chignon is one of the quintessential bridal ’dos. Coincidentally, Sister Bruschetta kept her awesome ringlets in check with one for her fall 2007 wedding (curly ladies take note!).

Also, I LOVE the pic of your sister’s hair. It looks like she and I have very similar hair. Do you know how long hers is (when curly)? Oh, and can I put the pic in my inspiration folder?

YES! I think you nailed it. My FH’s bestman’s fiance had like 78 hair trials so you’re in good company
I think it looks great! You’re right, if it were positioned a little higher up it would look even more “bridal.” I would love to see a picture from the front/side if you have any.
When you said it was “sloppy on the side” that was one of the things I was unhappy with about my first trial as well. At first I chalked it up to her leaving it that way bc it was just a trial, but the day of maybe just be sure to tell her you want it to be super tight?
I think it looks great, and I may have to steal it for my inspiration- I’m having hair trial doubts!!
@DEGirl: Yup, those were my thoughts exactly. I didn’t really get a good shot of the front/side — lighting was an issue, as well as my stinky camera I’m still planning to replace! — but it was somewhat similar to Mrs. Tiramisu’s (and I linked to her post below her picture), just a bit smaller/less full.
@EAQ219: Sister Bruschetta told me it’s fine it you’d like to save the picture — and her hair (at the time) was between shoulder and boob length (her words, not mine). 
What an improvement! It looked nice before, but it’s gorgeous now!
Looks great! I am hoping to achieve a similar look, but more side-swept.
Much better! It looks so much classier and less like a prom up do–too high on the head and i think it throws it all out of proportion–it really looks soooo lovely.

@Mrs. Tiramisu: Awwww, glad you approve! The front is quite plain, actually, because a “sweep” of hair just didn’t look good on me. No side part, just all straight back with a teeny bit of volume — kinda like how Mrs. Cupcake’s hair looked from the front. I can totally post one, but it’s pretty unexciting.

EAQ beat me to asking about your sister’s ‘do. I have similar hair…and if it’s ok, I would also like to use her picture in my inspiration file! My hair will probably be shoulder/boob length by the time my wedding rolls around!
I loved Tiramisu’s style, so if it looks like that, perfect!! Will you wear your veil further down for this style than you would have for the first?

I think your new do looks very elegant! I also love Sister Bruschetta’s do! A perfect balance of elegant and “oh, I just put this together really quickly… doesnt my hair look naturally gorgeous?”
Oh i love it! I think it is very simple and classic, and who doesn’t want to be classic! Plus, the fact that it felt secure will put to bed any worries you might have had while dancing your little heart out!
I think this is much nicer. I liked your other ‘do at the time, but when I clicked the link back to it, this one is definitely nicer! Just goes to show you should try a few different things.
@Miss Bruschetta: Thanks SO much Miss (and Sister) Bruschetta! Mine should be around that length too by the time of the wedding. My curly hair seems to grow sooo slow.
I love this newer option If I had longer hair I would totally do a chignon too. I think it is very classy and bridal w/o being promy.

@DEGirl: No, I don’t think so. We’ll do the style a wee bit higher (more where Mrs. Tiramisu’s was) and the veil will go just a hair above THAT. Should work out fine!

It looks really great, and more polished, I think than your first trial. I know you don’t like the hairpin, but have you considered other hair ornamentation? I think it really just sets off the style nicely to have a little something there. JMHO ;o)
