Program Progress

May 6th, 2009 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

I’ve been watching the countdown to “the day” on my Facebook page continue to shrink. I was excited at the 365 mark (only a year… it will just fly by!), and then we got down to 200 days left… and now we’re getting precariously close to the 100 day mark. And then, we’ll be on to double digits!

So… what about all of those projects that 12, 9, or even 6 months ago I wouldn’t even let myself think about because it was “too far off”? We’re about there. Decisions must begin to be made… followed by some major action to make everything happen.

First up - the ceremony programs. I had kind of a leave ’em attitude about programs when I first started planning. We don’t necessary need them. I don’t think our ceremony (which, sadly, I haven’t yet given a lot of thought to, either) will be incredibly intricate. But as I continue to go through the planning process, I wouldn’t mind having a “play by play” of the ceremony, and a place to give extra thanks to our wedding party and family. Besides, we need to keep the ushers busy. They’ll be there to work, people! (I kid, I kid!)

When I saw these poster-style ceremony programs featured somewhere last year, I fell in love. I wish I could have been at that wedding, because if the programs were that great, I can only imagine what other splendid details were at that wedding.

Mr. S loves the programs as well, and we’ve brainstormed different ways we could make this happen for us. But I’m worried that between printing and then folding, we may kill our budget (well, our non-existent program budget, as I hadn’t really factored these in, heh) and would just be adding one more project onto the pile with all of the folding. I don’t know that we’re up for that, but seriously, how great are these?! Of course, we would only be using these as inspiration:

In my search for other cool, less traditional program ideas, I came across these lovelies. You still get the “fold out feel”, with less intense folding. I literally know nothing about printing, so I don’t know what costs would be like for that, but I do know that we could easily design these ourselves.

By far, one of the coolest options was this two-sided poster. No folding would be involved, and I think it would be cool to have the ushers passing out these one-pagers (assuming they’re printed on heavier cardstock). I think I’d change up the style quite a bit and make sure there’s a place to list the wedding party, but overall, I like that these are more casual in nature, and kind of fun. This would also be great to frame after the event.

So, I now have three great pieces of inspiration for the programs I didn’t think we were ever going to do. I think that’s a pretty fabulous start! Now it’s all about making those decisions and implementing them…

What creative elements are you incorporating into your ceremony programs? Where have you gotten your inspiration?

I didn’t have the patience to make ceremony programs because the wedding was only a couple of months after I graduated college, so I also was low on time for little details like that. After seeing all the great options you ladies post about makes me wish I did them, though!

Oh, and have you considered something like Mrs. Cupcake’s programs? I LOVED hers! http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/03/17/the-cupcakes-accordion-fold-pocket-programs/

@Lillindy:
I know, these are lovely! I’m not super paper-crafty, so I hesitate to go pick a project I can’t handle…she obviously has more patience than me :)

Oh, man I still have so much work to do on this aspect of our wedding! I don’t even really have inspiration photos organized yet! :-(

@Miss Bruschetta:
You’re probably moving on a more normal timeline than me, so I’m sure you’re fine! I’ve had these inspiration pics lined up for a little while…I’m just crazy like that :)

So crazy, in fact, that I’ve spend the past two days mocking up a program. Oy, I need help!

I already started mocking up programs too and we have about 90 days left. :)

I’m making a pretty typical book style, but I too felt that while a program isn’t *necessary,* I still wanted them to be part of the day!

We are doing our programs as 4 pages, with a hole punched in just the upper right corner and threaded with a ribbon. As simple as I could keep it. Although I’m lusting after the poster style…

Currently, my vision of a program is just the normal folded booklet ones. Though I’ve found plenty of inspiration (including yours!) I just keep going back to the folded booklet ones. I guess I just want to make it as simple as possible! The programs are definitely something I’ve been itching to do and cross off my list….but FI and I have yet to sit down and decide on the ceremony! Then I want our pastor, his dad and grandpa (both preachers) to look and approve it!

I love seeing my facebook countdown go down too! I don’t know WHAT I’m gonna do when it’s double digits!

I really like those poster size folded do hickies. HHmm…note to self, scratch complicated intricate design and go for simplicity!

I’ve bookmarked the poster ones as well, it’s just an 11×17 sheet of paper, staples or kinkos can print on that size!

I’m going to do a booklet program and include the envelope in the back that says tears of joy. I know lots of people have done this. We also have a gap between the ceremony and reception so we are including a driving map to the reception with points of interest. Does anyone know of a booklet template?

I wanted to make my programs. My wedding is July 18th. I don’t think I have enough time though. I love the poster idea.

We added a line or two of the lyrics of each song the pre-ceremony musicians were playing, which helped explain why we picked ‘em.
