About Mrs. French Bulldog

Rays of Sunshine

May 6th, 2009 @ 3:38 pm by Mrs. French Bulldog

I knew from wedding planning day 1 that I wanted my ladies to wear yellow. Especially after our venue was chosen, I wanted to put them in a color that would POP against the green background of the winery’s gazebo.

This was also about the time I nixed the color green from our color scheme. There was already so much green surrounding our venue; why would I add more?

So, with my yellow dress mission, I hit the internet and started searching for tea-length, flowy, yellow dresses. Oh, and I wanted it to something they could wear again.

My first stop was Watters

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Watters04 watters512

Wtoo Style 512 - Sadly, this one didn’t come in yellow.

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Wtoo336 wtoo336

Wtoo Style 336 - Comes in yellow, and a strong contender.

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Watters05 watters4331

Watters Style 4331 - Perfect. Comes in yellow, is flowy, tea-length, and I would totally wear this again!

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Watters06 watters4417

Watters Style 4417 - I even fell in love with this one, and it wasn’t light and flowy.

Next I looked at the very popular J.Crew, but oddly they didn’t have anything the piqued my interest, so I moved on… to Jim Hjelm; more specifically, this Spring 2009 collection.

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Jh59081 jh59081

Jim Hjelm Style JH5908 - Unfortunately, it doesn’t come in yellow.

Rays of Sunshine : wedding bridesmaid dress Jh5909 jh5909

Jim Hjelm Style JH5909 - Also not in yellow. :(

This is when I realized that Jim didn’t get my memo, and he didn’t have many yellow dresses to choose from, especially not in any fabrics I’d want my ladies to wear in August. So, where did I go next?

Did you have trouble finding bridesmaids dresses in the color you imagined?

I like all of those! Too bad you were having trouble in the color department. I especially like #3 and #4!

Watters #3! As soon as I read the first paragraph of your post, that was the dress I immediately envisioned. (I’ve seen it featured in a Watters magazine ad.) What a perfect, soft color of yellow. If I didn’t choose pink for my wedding color, I would have chosen yellow. I will have to live vicariously through your cheerful color palette! :)

My MOH tried on Watters 4417 in yellow and it looked AMAZING on her! It’s not the right look for our wedding, but she’s actually considering buying it for herself to wear as an every-day dress!

I am also doing yellow bridesmaids dresses and I have found some amazing ones!

Check out Thread Designs. http://bridal.threaddesign.com/collections/pages/c72.php

I’m going do do either the liddy or melanie in the banana faille . They are so pretty & the yellow is perfect. a few of the girls tried on the dresses this week… and loved them.

Also, have you seen the jim hjelm occasions one:

It came down to the Jim Hjelm and the Threads dresses for my BM.

We definitely had a harder time than expected but found a dress we all loved: http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=620&sfid=51023&f=

The yellow is much prettier in person and I actually fell in love with the satin yoryu when I touched it. Very flowy!

Oh, I’m totally having the same problem–apparently turquoise just isn’t a popular color for bridesmaids’ dresses. Who knew?

As for yellow dresses, have you taken a look at Dessy?

#3 is my fave! I didn’t pick yellow for my wedding but secretly wish I did sometimes. (All my bridesmaids said “no way” to yellow anyway! I didn’t want 5 unhappy girls)
I’m hoping to be a yellow dress bridesmaid at some point in my life.

Try Jennyyoo.com. She has some yellow, and a showroom in LA.

I like both of the Watters dresses in yellow. I considered that strapless one for my girls in the brown.

You need to check out Morilee.com ASAP! Click the bridesmaid link at the top of the page and then look in their “Affairs” collection. They have lots of flowy chiffon dresses and they have TWO different yellow colors, buttercup and gold. Under each dress picture there is a color chart and if you click on the color you want the picture will change (new dress styles that were just added to the site do not have the chart below them yet).

And Miss SK, they have turquoise as a color option as well.

Mori Lee “Affairs” dresses are what I’m getting my ladies because I was having a hard time finding the right color purple and they have them. And their prices are INCREDIBLE! I’m talking most I got priced are less than $150! And they are totally dresses that can be worn again!

Hope this helps!

I know you said you didn’t find anything at J. Crew that you liked - but that first Watters dress that doesn’t come in yellow, is identical to the J. Crew ‘Juliet’ dress, which DOES come in yellow! ;)

It might be a bit bright, though - I’m not sure if you’d prefer a softer shade. You could check Ebay and find some real-life pictures of the color, though.

YES. And I picked grey, so I thought it would be easy since I wasn’t dealing with different hues of a particular color. Well, some companies don’t even have grey! I really liked Aria, but they went and DISCONTINUED their grey, explaining to me in an email that “it just wasn’t popular”. What a bummer! To top it off, I wanted all different dresses, and one needs to be a maternity style. Well, I could barely find ONE. Haha. I think we’re going to go with a Belsoie dress, even though the color is called “silver” (I didn’t want anything shiny). There’s a maternity option, so they’ll all wear the same dress. With 5 months left, I am learning to let things go.

You on the other hand, have tons of dresses to choose from! Will your girls wear different dresses or all the same? What will they do for shoes?

I love Watters #4417! My sister wore this dress at my wedding. She was my maid of honor. It looked great on her.

I did not have trouble finding my bridesmaid dresses. DB had a big collection of dresses that my girls could choose from in my color - aqua.

Good luck.
