Shower Us With Love

May 6th, 2009 @ 11:24 am by Mrs. French Bulldog

For a while I’ve been thinking about when we could have our guests throw stuff at us. I guess “toss” is a better word than “throw”. We’re not getting married in a church, so we can’t do the classic toss outside the church. Plus, I always wondered how the logistics worked on that one. I guess in the past, the happy couple walked down the aisle before everyone else, then hung out in a room until the guests have emptied the church, and then they left being showered with rice.

But did the guests just chill outside and wait for all the family pictures to be taken in the church?

An option for us is to have the send-off at the end of the evening, with the ever popular sparklers. I just love these pictures.

However, I’ve been to too many weddings where most the guests have left before “sparkler time”, and I want as many people there as possible. Also, our venue closes at 9, and we’d (the Mr and I) like to stay as long as possible and enjoy our party.

With those options out the window I thought, ‘well would it be weird if they tossed stuff at us as we came back down the aisle?’ I’ve never done it, but I know it’s been done, right? RIGHT!

Now, I have no idea what they are throwing here, as I cannot read that teeny tiny print in the bottom corner, but I love it! I just love the way wider confetti like this falls, especially when it flutters in the air. *swoon* So far, the only eco-friendly confetti I’ve found it much smaller, like this.

ecofetti

Which, I’ll admit, looks pretty cool.

So, that isn’t a bad backup.

But, can you help a doggie out? Do you know where I can get wider, eco-friendly confetti?

Are your guest tossing stuff? When, and what are they tossing at you?

That last shot looks like a snowstorm — love it! Are you aiming for larger as in the third picture from the bottom? Because that (and it looks awesome) just looks, to me, like paper cut into the right shape/size!

Oooh, I love the look of the sparklers and the eco-confetti! Hmm…maybe you could do both. The confetti after the ceremony & the sparklers after the reception!

Hmmm. I thought about that too. But I don’t know if I want to be pulling confetti out of my hair the entire reception. I may skip it. Maybe we can do it at brunch the next day, haha.

Mrs. Avocado had eco-friendly confetti tossed at her wedding - maybe you could check out her re-caps!

for a wedding I was recently in, the bride left bubbles at everyone’s seat along with the programs, and as they walked back down the aisle they were showered in bubbles. I think it was very sweet, and they have some cute pictures of the flower girl just being sooo happy and amazed, cause lets face it, who doesn’t love bubbles!

At my FSIL’s wedding they had the guests throw… ahem TOSS…. petals at them as they came back down the aisle after “you may now kiss the bride”. We’ll be doing the same only our guests will blow bubbles! (We can’t throw birdseed/rice/confetti but our venue contact ok’d bubbles.) FI used to blow bubbles all the time (especially during rain storms) so it fits in with who we are too. :)

That last shot is the inspiration for our petal toss. I actually just purchased some freeze dried petals!! The set up at our garden ceremony site isn’t conducive to showering us with stuff, so we’ve decided on the petal toss as we enter the cocktail hour (which is actually on a hill forty feet away from the garden). So after they get their drinks and see us coming up from picture-taking in the garden, they’ll prepare to toss!!!

I think I saw that photo in the latest Martha Stewart Weddings. I am trying to find something similar to that and will let you know if I find it.

@msashleymarie: but finding pieces of it later is the main reason confetti is fun!

I’ve been contemplating putting cones filled with rose petals on each chair that is on the end near the isle. Then, after we’re pronounced and during the recessional, guests will shower us with petals on our way out. I’ve seen this done and it’s so beautiful!

I don’t know how you feel about lavender, but we did a (dried) lavender bud toss - eco-friendly, smelled great, and for me was the ‘right’ size. :) And we did as we came back down the aisle, and my brother-in-law instructed those sitting on the aisle to ‘pelt’ us. Got some great pics!

Ohhhhh I like your ideas! We’re doing an outdoor reception and had considered bubbles, but I’m not so sure how I feel about the “sticky factor”. The eco friendly confetti looks so nice though…

Just remember that whatever you have your guests toss at you, you have to pick out of your dress/hair/veil/decolletage before the reception!

I always see the wide eco friendly confetti in magazines but have not ran into that yet. Just google the hell out of google and i’m sure you’ll come across it at some point.

I DONT recommend the small one though, because then you will have pix right after the ceremony and it will be a chore getting it all out of your hair!

even churches don’t let you do the tosses anymore. mine won’t at least. it leaves too big of a mess they said. And the regular Saturday night mass is after my ceremony, so they don’t want those churchgoers seeing the mess.

@Miss Bruschetta: Good point, I guess I could just by biodegradable paper and make it myself.
@Mojito: Good Idea! Both would be fun :)
@msashleymarie & @mrsbear: To me, that would be fun and make some great pictures :)
@L: Unfortunately I’m allergic to Lavender, but that sounds like a great option.
@Miss Perfume: That sounds like a great time for a toss :) Coming up from the garden will look beautiful.

Didn’t really consider a toss that important. I know that a lot of places near the ocean don’t allow rice because of the birdies. So that is out, I know we would have to clean the confetti up and that just doesn’t sound like fun. I was considering bubbles (especially since no kids means we won’t have to worry about stick messy soapy hands). Not really sure. The confetti looks great though (if you don’t have to, or don’t mind the clean-up)

It’s a shame that some venues won’t let you throw confetti/petals, I get that it’s a pain to clean up. But I remember going to church after some weddings and seeing petals outside the church, it always made me smile. (Sorry, kind of out of left field there)

Flutter fetti!

That’s what is in the picture you like, and I know that because that’s I used flutter fetti for my wedding. It moves “softly” because of the way it’s shaped, and it’s biodegradable. So, it’s not a clean-up concern.

Oh, it’s also flame-retardant. No need to mess with trying to make it yourself. We “ran” outside at night, and it looked even more beautiful in in the pictures than I had imagined.

We’re not allowed to throw anything that has to be cleaned up. I love the idea of putting bubbles on the seats for the ceremony! We’re having an outdoor ceremony and I think it would be perfect!

Could you maybe buy some eco-friendly paper of your own and run it through a shredder to hopefully make it the size you want?

the pic with the wide confetti is actually eco-friendly/biodegradable confetti, if i remember correctly. i think that’s in the recent martha stewart weddings?

hahahaha i remember when we were walking out of the ceremony room, our friends were slamming petals at us like it was dodgeball. i wanted that romantic petal-tossing shot, but instead Mr. M got pegged in the eye and he said he saw ppl with expressions as if they were on a mission to attack. lol!

I was able to read the words on the picture you like. The website is http://www.artistryinmotion.com and it looks like the have a paper called ‘cleanfree’ which is eco friendly. I love the larger confetti!! Hope this helps.

We’re getting married in a garden and using dried petals in our wedding colors as we exit after the pronouncement. About $1/cup off of ebay, and from a local source. Using origami cups as vessels (also using origami cranes as place cards).

Our ceremony site will not let us toss or throw anything in or outside of the venue, which is fine. I guess if we really wanted something, we could opt for bubbles…but I think they are a bit overused.

I was at a wedding where the confetti cones were hung on the back of each chair, so that the guests could pelt the couple as they walked down the aisle. The officuant warned them first, of course, that that was when they should do it!

We’re doing bubbles on the way back down the aisle and sparklers at the end of the night. A friend of mine suggested staging the grand exit sometime after the major festivities (cutting the cake, bouquet toss, etc.) so you get the most amount of people in the photos. Then you just casually go back inside to the dancing portion of the night. I guess it makes sense to do that (maybe not for all). At my FSIL’s wedding, people were too plastered from the open bar to be trusted with the sparklers and many didn’t even bother to come outside to send off the couple….

We did eco-confetti at my wedding. It was a hot humid (Australian) day and I got alot of it down the -very stiff and very fitted- bodice of my dress. Eco-confetti breaks down with water, so with a bit of dancing I had a big lump of half broken down eco-confetti down my top that I couldn’t get out without taking off my whole dress! Also, my beautiful white bouquet (which was still a bit damp) turned pink from the confetti too. Sorry, but wouldn’t recommend it to others.

Just a warning: I have heard that some of the colored eco-fetti can bleed onto your white dress if you were sweaty or anything else got it damp. I am not sure if its true though. Just something to think about.

Artistry in Motion is where they got the large white confetti. It was on the Martha Stewart Wedding Website as well. I visited their website and they have all sorts of options and they are also biodegradable! YAY!

Have you checked out wedding wands? We are going to have these ribbon streamers, as they are attached so dont leave a mess. End up being a kind of favor as well!
