To Say Thank You

May 6th, 2009 @ 5:48 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

One of my goals post-wedding is to not purchase a greeting card for one full year, but to make them all instead. I like to think that card recipients feel a little extra special with they get a homemade card for their special occasion. I make my Christmas cards every year and randomly make birthday cards for friends and family members. With all of the wedding crafting I’ve been doing lately, I haven’t had much of a chance to make birthday cards. I did somehow manage to squeeze in some paper crafting time and put together thank you cards for my bridal shower (which I plan on writing a post about very soon!). Here is what I came up with:

The patterned paper is an Amy Butler print and the solid green cardstock is embossed with an embossing folder and my Cuttlebug machine. I also used the Cuttlebug with a two-piece die cut to make the flower. The “thank you” is hand-stamped onto a strip of lilac-colored cardstock paper. All of the pieces were attached to a sheet of folded and cut white cardstock with an ATG Glue Tape Gun by 3M.

I cut out everything at once and then put them all together. This project took me about 3 or 4 hours one evening and I ended up making 36, enough to send to those who attended my bridal shower or who sent us gifts in advance.

With less than three weeks until the wedding, I probably could have used the time for other wedding projects, but I needed a little break from all of those and wanted to do a fun craft that didn’t involve anything in our wedding colors.

What extra little DIY projects are you whipping up that you hadn’t originally planned on working on for your wedding?

I also plan on DIY everything and anything to do with paper. I have so much card stock and ink that I have purchased for the wedding and other odds and ends that I figure I might as well use it until there is no more..

I love your card. Seeing it makes me want a Cuttlebug even more. My Cricut is getting lonely.

That’s adorable looking. What a goal - to make all your cards! Everything I DIY has been a surprise; I don’t think I knew a thing about what goes into a wedding before I started looking on the web!

wow, I love them! So cute!!! They look professional. (Funny, I actually bought something similar at Target a few weeks back, and the recipient was all head over heels about this card I had “made”. I was like ‘uhh…. sorry, i’m not so talented’. But yours looks waaay better than that target one!

I think it’s a super nice feeling to know that someone took the time to make a card for you. My mom has been doing this for years, and I always feel special knowing she took the time out of her day/weekend/whatever to make me a card :)

They are so cute!!! You are so awesome, I could barely write all of the thank you cards let alone make those suckers! ;)

Mr. Taffy’s grandpa illustrates cards every year for all of his kids and grandchildren, they are so thoughtful. He has saved all of them and I love to look at them.
