Tux-ing Up

May 6th, 2009 @ 10:57 am by Mrs. Beagle

Although my heart melts for a guy wearing a suit, Mr. Beagle desired to wear a tux on our wedding day. We’ve gone to look at tuxes at a couple of different places, and have finally settled on the Men’s Wearhouse for our tux supply. Mr. Beagle likes the look of a two-button coat similar to this:

Here is where my dilemma begins. Mr. Beagle will be wearing a white/ivory vest/tie combo, but we can’t seem to make a decision on the GM’s vests and ties.

Here are the options:

1) Basic Black- Black Vest/Black Tie:

2) Black with a Twist- Black Vest/ Purple Tie (although the right, and by “right” I mean a cheap, purple tie might be hard to find):

you can find the ties here.

3) Go Dark- Purple Vest/ Purple Tie (my concern with the dark purple is if it doesn’t match exactly, it might look odd):

4) Go Light- Light Vest/ Light Tie (My bouquet will tie in this color):

If you remember, the BM’s dresses look like this:

I like the idea of his look tying in with your bouquet — and actually, Mama and Daddy Bruschetta will be doing something similar with THEIR attire! :-)

I think the light vest/tie combo with the darker BM dresses will look amazing! Very put together, yet still not too matchy matchy.

I like the last two. The dark purple will be fine - even if it doesn’t match exactly. My BM dresses and GM are both brown - but they are not perfectly matched. Brown is SO hard to match!

The lighter color is nice because you’re intentionally not matching - and you’re just complementing the BM dresses.

Good luck - no matter what it will be beautiful!

colored vests and ties are very prom. i’d stick with black tie only. no vest or cumberbund. if you need ideas check out j.crew and GQ.

We are doing all black! But with bow ties. Black will look good years from now, it is so classic! I do like the lighter shade of purple though.

go with the light purple — it’ll look great in pictures. black vests might be a little dark, esp. with darker purple BM dresses.

I really like the black vest because it is a classic choice, and would still look very nice if they all took off their jackets. A purple tie would be a great punch of color, and if you don’t need to match anything else, would likely make your life much easier.

I second the tiebar.com I bought my gm’s ties from them and they are pretty good quality and come in so many colors.

We’re actually doing a black men’s warehouse tux (calvin klein shadow stripe) with a white shirt, black vest, and a purple tie that I bought him a few years while I was in Italy for the summer.

I saw some really nice looking purple ties on Overstock.com recently actually!

Crap. I meant to click on #4. Disregard one vote for #3 and move it to #4. Thank you. :) I love the different shades of color.

You can find a lot of purple ties at thetiebar.com and they’re all $15.

I picked #4 with Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear in my head saying, “It doesn’t have to match, it has to go.” So it will go with the BMs without trying to look too matchy matchy & it keeps it simple so you don’t have to go hunting for ties.

I say light purple! I think the slight difference in purple shade will add some dimension to your bridal party.

tiebar! tiebar! tiebar! Everytime I got to recommend something on Weddingbee, some clever bees have already done it. I LOVE my ties from tiebar! They look great, match perfectly and you can’t beat $15. I chose these: http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp?pn=11356&orderPageReturn=/categoryPages/Purple_Pink_Ties.asp&pg=5&i=51&xlOnly=&boysTiesOnly=

Now I just have to make a similar decision as you … what to go with the ties?

What if you did black ties, nice and classic, but paired them with a really pale purple shirt? Or would your man kill you for suggesting that?

I like the light version. It really complements the BM dresses!
