My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Bridal Bonus!

May 7th, 2009 @ 3:22 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

The Bruschetta wedding is easy fodder for small talk — and, as I learned at a recent dental appointment, may lead to pleasant surprises!

During my cleaning, the hygienist was particularly talkative. When possible (’cause, ya know, my mouth was sorta occupied) I happily gabbed away as well, mentioning my love of wedding blogs and plans for our modern-meets-classic summer soiree. We were still chatting when the dentist came in for his portion of the appointment.

Now, for a little dental background. At 19, I had a gum grafting operation on seven of my lower teeth. My receding gums (partly due to genetics, and partly to orthodontics) if left untreated, would have eventually led to exposed roots — and the possible loss of these teeth by the age of 30 — so I didn’t really have a choice.

The surgery was a success, but because of my sensitive gums, I won’t ever be able to use whitening strips to brighten my smile. Drinking red wine or coffee means I’m either brushing my teeth soon thereafter, or chasing the beverage with water. But I still get irked that my pearlies aren’t as white as they could be.

Meanwhile, back in the dental chair…

“Oh, you’re getting married? At the end of the summer? Well, I’ll tell you what…

Make an appointment to come in a few days before the wedding, and I’ll give your teeth a complimentary polishing. How’s that for a wedding gift?”

This little Bruschetta was super thrilled when my dentist offered this option. I think this August will be the first time I’m actually looking forward to a dental appointment!

Have you received any surprise freebies or other “bridal bonuses”?

How cool is that!? Good for you, B!

I’m getting free shipping, alterations, and an additional 15% disc. on my wedding gown b/c I used to know the owner. Considering that’s about $300+ of savings, I will say that’s an awesome bonus that I wasn’t expecting!

That is great!! Today I actually visited my dentist for my last cleaning before the wedding. The only “bridal bonus” that we have received so far is that when my FI went to buy the e-ring he went to a local jeweler where one of his childhood friend’s Mom worked. She helped teach him about diamonds and all that and ended up giving him a 70% discount on the ring. He was so thrilled on how much he saved that he ended up telling me the cost =)…

My dentist just informed me of the same option only it would be about $20 each for FI and I. Not bad for a beautiful smile on the big day!

Our dentist told us she would give a discount for teeth whitening to the bridal party. Unfortunately, only one bridesmaid is local.

This isn’t really a bonus, but after reading about people’s experiences at the post-office about handling invitations, I was a little anxious about asking for hand canceling them. I told the postman that I had 50 invitations + 5 going overseas, but he was so patient and nice! He helped me with the different stamps I needed, the special return postage for the foreign invitations, and hand canceled everything. After all was said and done, he wished me good luck with the wedding and the marriage.

That’s awesome! Aren’t dentists the best? My husband and I go to the same one, and the first time he went in after our wedding, they sent him home with a bottle of champagne. How sweet is that?!

I’m one of those crazy people who loves going to the dentist (perhaps only because I have such ridiculously strong gums that I had 9 teeth pulled in childhood - bad for then, but good for now)! If only I had dental insurance…

Aww that is such a cute story! Go Dentist Go! My dentist told me I might need some work on my gums too but then the cleaning specialist told me that my gums were fine! OK! We actually just bought a 2007 used car which was selling for higher than we wanted and we told them we were getting married and couldnt afford what they wanted for it and the guy was like, “Oh your getting married…let me see what I can do!” And when he brought the price down to what was good for us he said, “I better be invited!” :)

My dentist did the same for both of us - and gave us free whitening pens! My nail place gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure, too.

The world needs more nice people like that! My reception venue upgraded out napkins from the standard to nice satin ones for our wedding. We didn’t want to pay for it, but she said she would make sure they would cover the cost because she “saw our vision” and wanted to make sure it was executed how we actually wanted! She ended up saving us like 200 bucks so we were VERY grateful!
