Dressing the Maids

May 7th, 2009 @ 2:10 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

Last Friday I received the call that my bridesmaids’ dresses had arrived. Thank goodness, as I was starting to get nervous. See, only 2 of 7 live here in town, and I had to ship everyone’s dresses out to them. I was concerned that we were running out of time for alterations and such.

So, I scurried over to the shop, picked up the dresses, and threw them in the mail. But not before I slipped into my sister’s gown to check it out. I sort of picked this dress out sight unseen. I’d seen the dress in teal, on me, in a way too small size. I’d seen other dresses in our color, but not on anyone, and I hadn’t seen it next to my gown at all.

Pardon the blur. I was having trouble getting my camera to focus that day.

So, I’m totally in love with the color. I wasn’t particularly pleased with the way my sister’s dress looked on me, but it was at least one size too big. And there were no clips to hold it up/in. I was pleasantly surprised when another bridesmaid (the florist) emailed pictures of her in the dress.

Wow, what an improvement over what I got from my sister’s gown. It definitely needs a good steaming, but the bloody thing fits her like a glove.

So, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that Mini CC is wearing the same dress, but in a mini version. I was really perturbed that I had to pay the same price for a tiny version as I did for the full version, but whatever. It was really important to me that she feel like a bridesmaid and not a flower girl. So, this was an easy decision to make, and I’m quite pleased with the outcome, except I have to have it altered. It’s just a little big on her.

Too big!!

I clipped the back of it with a binder clip. It’s much better, but I think we need to take up the straps, too!

I forgot to take a picture of her dress next to mine, but the colors are really lovely together. I’d go get y’all one now, but they are stored in her closet, and she’s sleeping.

Do you have very young bridesmaids?  How did you coordinate their dresses with the adult dresses?

Awww, Mini CC looks adorable! Will her shoes and accessories echo the “big girl” bridesmaids as well?

Mini CC is adorable, as is the dress!

My youngest sister (who is also a bridesmaid) just turned 14, and is very very tiny. I made sure that the dress the BMs got would be something that she could wear too, because I didn’t want her feeling left out! She is even wearing the same heels as the rest of the girls, which she is pretty excited about!

My niece will be a junior bridesmaid in our wedding. She’s 11 so she’s also still in kids sizes and I agree that it’s rediculous to pay the full price as for the adult dresses! Also, I love your dress choice!

Those are really pretty dresses. I like how adorable Mini CC is in her dress that is both youthful and like the adult version!

Hehe. That’s a girl proud to wear her dress!

I’ll have one junior bridesmaid and no adult bridesmaids. I’m waiting until about 5 or 6 months before the wedding to buy a dress for her because with 13 year old girls, you just never know what size they’ll be even 6 months out. I’ve been looking for dresses though, and haven’t seen a single thing I liked. Kinda worries me.

mini cc is adorable… you must be so proud!

we still have 16 months to go… but we’ve narrowed down the bridesmaids dresses to three options… and two of the three have matching jr. bridesmaids dresses…

my cousin who will be 12 next summer is our jb so we’ll probably just order the dresses this fall and get hers a little bit bigger so she can grow into it and tailor it next summer.

I have three FG dresses…one for my niece if my FNIL cannot make it to the wedding. And two matching FG dresses if she can! The single dress is white, but the matching dresses are yellow to match the MOH. I didn’t do much “coordinating” with this one, it was more like “What can I find in their size?”

Beautiful dress! What designer is it from? We were looking at similar dresses because my sister (MOH) says the folds might hide the fat. Haha I think she is beautiful and wears her weight well, but I have also mentioned several times I do not want her or any of the bridesmaids uncomfortable with the dress.

I will also have a jr. bridesmaid. I am hoping that she will be able to wear the same dress or with straps like mini CC. I think that is a lovely idea!

I have 3 bridesmaids (who range in age from 39 - 45) and my 14-year-old niece is a jr. bridesmaid. I wanted all of them to look age-appropriate. The BMs are wearing a long black dresses with straps that criss cross in the back and my niece is wearing a tea length, strapless black dress out of the same fabric.

I just got the call yesterday that the dresses were in. I can’t wait to go pick them up!!!
