Notice anything different or off about this picture? No? How about this one?

Hee hee. No, Dumpling didn’t eat too much wedding cake at the wedding. I’m pregnant.
Shocked? So were we! You have no idea! I’ll tell you the story below, but go on ahead and look at some belly pics first. The two on top were taken in Hawaii about 3 weeks ago on our honeymoon… which I totally plan to blog about soon!
Outside of our hotel…

At a beach-side restaurant in Waikiki, where we had the most expensive meal we have ever eaten… I was sooo happy to be able to pig out.

Belly shot at 20 weeks… (I am now 24 weeks along… story coming below!)

Alrighty then. So about 2.5 months before the wedding, I started feeling a little bit funny in the mornings and unusually sleepy in the middle of the day. I blamed it on nerves, since I was about to get married. “It’s the jitters and anxiety of too many projects!” I would tell myself. One morning in particular (and sorry if this is graphic), as I stepped out of the shower and wrapped the towel around myself, I noticed that my boobs were a little bigger and that they were slightly sore. ‘Eh, this is weird,’ I thought. I didn’t suspect I was pregnant; I actually thought I was just being a big baby. I started experiencing more and more symptoms of being pregnant… metal taste in my mouth (yep, that really does happen), aversion to smells, etc… and decided maybe I should take a test. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to actually be positive. After all, Mr. Dumpling and I had been together for nearly 7 years and had never had any sort of “scare”. We were careful and I was on birth control.
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
The test said to wait 2-3 minutes to get a result, but after about 10 seconds it gave me 2 pink lines. Mr. Dumpling didn’t believe me, and thought I was playing a joke on him. Luckily, the box came with two tests, so I peed on the other one and let him watch it quickly register a positive result. We still have those tests… isn’t that gross?
Okay, so… I’m pregnant. We have 2.5 months before our wedding, the invitations have already been sent out, the dress has already been altered, and we’ve already spent a gazillion dollars on an all-night open bar for alcohol I wouldn’t even get to taste. NICE! Don’t get me wrong—we were super excited and totally geeking out; it’s just that the reality was really starting to set in. Wanna know what I was most worried about? Ha—mostly I was concerned about my awesome dream dress not fitting me. It was a fitted mermaid style gown, and I was going to be sporting a bump. Don’t judge me!! I was being a crazy pregnant woman!
I had already scheduled an appointment with my GYN for my annual exam for the next week, so I figured I would let them know at that time that I was pregnant… knock out two doctors visits at the same time. When we got there and started talking to the doctor about the dates of my last cycle and what not, he gave us a September due date. Yay! I wouldn’t be too far along at the wedding, and my dress would fit! (Yes, I know, that’s really selfish and superficial. Sorry.)
HAHA again. As we were leaving, the doctor said, “Oh, how about we do an ultrasound before you leave, since the room is available.” We did one, and neither one of us could make heads or tails of what was on the screen. However, after measuring the baby, they upped our due date by 4 weeks! OH NOES!
I let my bratty selfish side take control for the next day or so and worried about the dress. Then, I realized how ridiculous I was being, and felt terrible. We were so lucky to be able to get pregnant so easily, and at that moment I stopped worrying about myself and started thinking only about our baby.
I’ll spare you the details about my morning (all day) sickness and low blood sugar fainting spell at Banana Republic, and fast-forward.
We told our families, and they were all thrilled for us! By the time the wedding rolled around, everyone knew. I had lost about 5 pounds early in my pregnancy because of all the up-chucking I was doing, but I am happy to report that on our wedding day I felt shiny, healthy, and energetic.
Remember this picture? I told you during one of my recaps that I was saying, “It fits!” You probably didn’t know what that meant then, did ya?!

Not only did it fit, I had a bigger rack to fill it out! Score!!
Here are some pictures so you can see that I was showing just a tiny bit on the big day. I’m a thin girl, so of course, I thought it was completely obvious that I was with child.

And now my favorite picture of the night:

That’s Mr. Dumpling with his hand on my belly after I felt our baby move for the first time. I was 18 weeks at that point, and was starting to feel little baby flutters! I’m so glad The Cohens caught that on film!
I really REALLY wanted to tell all of you ladies a LONG time ago, but I felt that it would take away from the wedding planning. It was hard, believe me… I am no good at keeping secrets! The hardest part was telling our church the big news. If you remember, we’re Catholic, and we were sure it was going to be an issue. Surprisingly, our priest and deacon were both very supportive and excited for us. We had our wedding date set with the church for a year, and we both regularly attend Mass and were already going through marriage prep, so maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe not, though.
Regardless, this baby was conceived out of love and will have two loving, supportive parents who will raise it to be a strong and happy individual. We feel so blessed to be having this child, and we pray and thank our God every day that the baby and I are both healthy.
So there—now you know our big secret. The Dumplings are going to be parents. We do know the sex of the baby, and we have a name picked out… but for now, we are going to keep that a secret. Sorry! I’ll update you in about 3.5 months.
XOXO,
Mama Dumpling

Congratulations! How exciting! You’re an adorable mommy-to-be! :o)

I have to admit- when I saw some of the recap posts I was thinking- “Hmm, that dress gives Mrs. Dumpling a bit of pooch…” But I never suspected it was a little dumpling!
I probably should have said “preparing for the baby”
In trying to keep my comment short, that came out wrong and now I have typed more than I would have if I would have proofread it!

CONGRATS!!! You are seriously the cutest pregnant lady ever! I looked at that first picture in the bikini and I was like she’s totally pregnant, but I was expecting you to try to tell us otherwise. I’m so happy for you guys and I’ll be the first to put it out there, I’m thinking it’s going to be baby girl! Can’t wait to find out for sure and the name! Congrats again to both of you!
HA! There is one pic in your recap that made me say out loud “Awww, she’s pregnant” Then when you didn’t post anything I thought I was crazy. I just knew it. It’s the ex-pregnant lady in me. We just know…
Congrats!! Be happy you don’t have to be pregnant during a hot, humid Alabama summer. It sucks! ![]()

congrats! so cute!! can’t believe you were on bc though…that’s a lesson i guess!
“I let my bratty selfish side take control for the next day or so and worried about the dress. Then, I realized how ridiculous I was being, and felt terrible. We were so lucky to be able to get pregnant so easily, and at that moment I stopped worrying about myself and started thinking only about our baby.”
Thanks for this reflection - so many couples (especially same-sex couples!) have to spend SO much time (and money!) and lots of failed attempts to have a child. Truly, thank you for appreciating it! Congratulations!
Congratulations! What happy news! That picture of Mr. Dumpling touching your belly will be an awesome thing for baby to have. Can’t wait to hear more (and I totally went back through your recaps to belly hunt!). You are too cute.
Congrats!!! As soon as I saw the first picture I shouted (in my head! I’m at work and everyone would think I’M pregnant!) “BABY BUMP!!!”. I love the picture of Mr. Dumpling feeling your belly. So cute!!! ![]()
omg omg omg. that picture you got is the most special thing ever… and you will ALWAYS have that memory of his/her (come on just tell us! lol) first kick being on your wedding nite… he was feeling the beat ![]()

Congrats!!! You are the cutest pregnant lady!!! I can only hope that I look that good one day. You are just glowing!! And those pictures are precious, especially the last one.
So great! I love pregnant brides - really, they always seem twice as happy!
“I let my bratty selfish side take control for the next day or so and worried about the dress. Then, I realized how ridiculous I was being, and felt terrible. We were so lucky to be able to get pregnant so easily, and at that moment I stopped worrying about myself and started thinking only about our baby.”
This is hard to explain, but you can’t always live your life like that. I have and have had some many friends that have had hard times getting and staying pregnant. I had a very easy time {a month after we married} and a great pregnancy by any standards. But, we’ve decided not to have any more and I sometimes feel guilty like I’m supposed to birth them for everybody. I was to the point where when people asked me when we were going to try for another, I would say we are. Just do I didn’t have to talk to them about not wanting more. After your obviously darling child is born, You will still have petty things to worry about. Like when they ding their forehead, you’ll be happy that they’re OK, but you’ll worry about the scar and if it makes them “ugly”. It’s just life. Or when they’re doing good in school, you’ll worry if they’re popular…in PS. LOL You can’t help it. I’ve tried and failed…is it wrong to want a plastic surgeon for my daughter’s forehead at 5? Probably. Did I think seriously about it for a month and still kinda am? Yes!
OMG, congratulations! I love the photo where Mr. Dumpling’s hand is on your belly. It made me tear up.
Yay!! Congrats. Those are some great pictures, and I just love how honestly you tell the story.
Aww, congratulations to you and Mr. D! I didn’t even pick up on the baby bump in your recap pictures! You look great.
Did your doctor mention anything about why the bc may have “failed”? I realize it’s only 99% effective (or whatever the percentage is) but was anything else a factor? Either way, a baby is such a miracle, so congrats again!
Congratulations! You look amazing. I’m so glad that you two had a happy reaction, and that you were still able to have the wedding of your dreams! So many people would have postponed or cancelled, but your hearts were obviously in the right place! I love the tummy-rub picture!
Wow! Congratulations. I’m so happy that you’re happy. But- please tell me- were you still being super-careful about birth control? Were there any missed periods? Now I’m freaking out.
OMG Congrats!! And The Dress would have been my second thought too, don’t you worry! You looked fab however and you can barely see your belly in your stunning gown. And the picture of your husband feeling the baby is AMAZING. God Bless your family!!
Umm @ KateMW - what is your problem? You seem to be awfully critical of all the Bees. Can’t you just say “Congratulations Mrs. Dumpling! You look fantastic!”
(Which by the way Mrs. Dumpling - you do look fantastic and congratulations!!!)
YAY!!!!! i agree with EVERYONE else. you are one hot mama!!!! most gorgeous pregnant lady EVA!
if you hadn’t said anything, i never would have guessed that you were pregnant! there is absolutely no sign of a baby bump in that dress. and look at you in the bikini!!!!! totally rockin’ it! you look fabulous! i can only hope i look as wonderful as you do pregnant.
good luck, dumplings! i know you’ll be amazing parents!

Love the pics — and so happy for you both! Thanks for sharing, Mama D! ![]()
Congratulations!!!! You look so cute and the entire story is adorable. I will keep you in my prayers for a healthy baby!!

You make me WANT to be pregnant. That’s how cute you are. Congrats!
Aww, the last pic of you and Mr.Dumpling made me tear up. Congratulations to the happy Dumplings! Hope all goes well, and keep us posted!
@kpenn: I think KateMW is sympathizing with Mrs. Dumpling, saying that sometimes you worry about petty things, and it just happens, and it’s ok… comparing Mrs. D’s worries about her dress to her own worries about her daughter’s forehead. I think she was saying that sometimes you sweat the small stuff, and it’s just part of life!
ohhhh…..CONGRATS!
I am such a sappy dork but ready this post totally put tears in my eyes.
You can just tell how happy you about about this. And I can’t imagine how hard it was to keep such a big secret!
CONGRATS!!!!
Congrats! As soon as I saw the bikini pic, I was like, Aha! Finally a preggo post that isn’t a fake out! ^_^
Although ah…I had a momentary cringe–on bc and you got pregnant?! Scary! (Well, to me ^_^)
Congratulations! You looked so thin in your wedding photos, you didn’t look pregnant at all - you look gorgeous and glowing!
@Miss Meatball: seriously meatball, I am right there with you. She’s so damn adorable, my ovaries hurt!
Congratulations! As for the “wedding day bump,” that’s the amount of tummy that most of us have on a regular basis ;), so I sure wouldn’t have noticed! so happy for you!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! GAH! You and your cute baby bump!!! And I teared up when I saw that pic of Mr. D holding your belly! SO CUTE!!! Many blessings to you guys! ![]()
Congratulations! That picture of you and your husband on the dance floor is precious.
CONGRATUALTIONS!!! How very exciting!! You are absolutely beaming!
Btw, I want your your wedding hair. Haha So beautiful!
Wow, congratulations! That last pic of Mr. Dumpling trying to feel the baby move is priceless… I’m at almost 11 weeks now and I can’t wait to have that moment with Mr. December. ![]()
And thanks for reminding me that I need to start taking belly pics!
Congratulations!!!!
Thanks for writing about this. I’ve wondered “what if I get pregnant before the wedding? It’s less than 9 months away now!” (I’m on bc but you never know) and it’s nice to know that you still fit into your dress and had a wonderful beautiful day!
congrats! i’m one month ahead of you and i wish i have a picture of my hubby doing that to my tummy =)
How exciting! ![]()
CONGRATS to you both!!!
It’s been said over and over already, but you really do make one cute pregnant mama!
That is wonderful. What a lucky baby to have such wonderful parents! ![]()
aww, congrats! it must have meant so much more on the day of your wedding. like in the pic of the two of you at the alter, looking into each other’s eyes… and love the pic on the dance floor, so cute!
AAHHHHHH CONGRATS!!! EEEEEE!!!! SO HAPPY FOR THE DUMPLINGS!!!
You are the prettiest and cutest pregnant lady I have ever seen! and that photo of Mr Dumpling touching your belly is so sweet it made me tear up ![]()
What a wonderful story! The last pic in your post is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. All the best to you, Mr. D. and baby Dumpling. And if you get a chance, please tell us if your doc gave an explanation as to how you got pregnant on bc…..I think we’re all wondering! (and a little nervous….)

Congrats!!! Such wonderful news and all the best to you and Mr. Dumpling. So excited to see the update in three months!
That picture of mr dumpling on your belly is so sweet! you looked fantastic on your wedding day! CONGRATS! dumpling wud be a cute nickname for the little one ![]()
Can you give us a little insight and maybe make us birth control users feel a “little better”.
Even though they say BC is 99.9% effective….people do get pregnant. BUT every person I have even known personally who has gotten pregnant on the pill…did “something”.
By something I mean..Something that you can point to as why the pill failed. Most people I knew it was because they missed a pill or were on antibiotics. Though we all know that there is a chance of getting pregnant while on the pill…..most of us like to think that it we use it 100% correctly, that we will be safe.
So this is why I ask. Can you calm to fears of girls on BC who read this and think “oh no! Maybe I could get pregnant”
Do you know “what” happened? Are you really that 1% who did everything right and still got pregnant, or can you point to a missed pill or being on antibiotics that lead to getting pregnant?
I know this is a personal question, but it is scary when girls hear of someone on the pill getting pregnant. If there is something you can point to as to why your BC failed, it would be good to know.
Awww! That is so wonderful! What a lovely bride you made with child! I’m glad everyone was so supportive.
Don’t make me cry at work!
Congratulations! You are by far the cutest pregnant lady ever! Can’t wait to hear the name!

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the most gorgeous momma bride. And you rock that skinny mermaid dress like the saucy little lady that you are.
Congratulations!
And I love that you’re “Mrs. Dumpling”. Who knew that you’d have your own little Dumpling?
Congratulations Again! ![]()
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! YAY CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! I am SO EXCITED I feel like we’re old friends! You are an ADORABLE pregnant and will be the most beautiful momma ever. Congratulations to you two! And the photo of Mr Dumpling touching your belly? Made me tear up and that is a feat.
Congrats Dumpling! What great news! The picture of you and your husband on the dancefloor is precious. What a special thing for your child, to be able to see the reaction of his/her parents after the his/her first movements!
And, I’m with mariahjane20…not to be too nosey, did the doc have any answers on how you get pregnant on bc?
Congratulations Mrs. Dumpling. You looked lovely on our Wedding Day and I’m sure you’ll have an adorable baby. I’m so glad to hear that the church didn’t cause a problem. I’m Catholic also and I always wondered what the church would say if I turned up Pregant after we started Pre-Cana.
Congratulations! We’re going to try for a baby 2-3 months before the wedding so maybe I’ll have a mini baby bump like yours ^_^
Is it a girl? ![]()
Congratulations! Be sure to share more pictures of your little dumpling!
SWEETHEART! Congrats!!! Your dress looks fabulous, and I bet no one knew!!!!!!
eek! Congratulations!!! That picture of him touching your belly is adorable! What a precious memory caught on camera. I wish you all the best.
@kpenn…you obviously didn’t read all the comments.
@MrsPenguin…yes, what you said.
Thanks! I was just saying that mothers worry about what seems like small stuff and it’s OK.
I’m so excited for you! I cannot wait to see all the Dumpling baby pictures! ![]()
Wow! Congratulations!!!! What incredible news for the two of you! You’re the only person I’ve ever personally heard of who has gotten pregnant while on BC, what crazy odds. You look totally beautiful btw ![]()

Congrats. You are seriously the cutest pregnant lady I have ever seen!
you are a drop dead gorgeous mama bride!
congratulations X 10000000!!
the belly pictures are perfect!
Can I tell you how happy this post makes me??? Our wedding is in July…. In mid March I started to feel a little icky and then was about a week late. Just to be sure I took a test- completely convinced it would be negative. SURPRISE! Positive test. I’m not going to lie. For the first week or so I was like S***. I was terrified my dress wouldn’t fit and mad that I wasn’t going to be able to drink at my wedding. But those feelings went away (mostly) and I’m so excited now. I’ve lost about 10 pounds from morning (all day) sickness and at last check the dress still fit:) Our families are so excited for us and we can’t wait to meet our baby in November. Just a little FYI- I was taking BC too and hadn’t missed a pill and wasn’t on any medications that interfered with it’s effectiveness.
PS- I’m so relieved to see how wonderful you looked on your day. You give me great hope
Even though I’ll be further along than you- almost 24 weeks on the big day…. I’m going to keep the faith- and stay away from the junk food until then!!
CONGRATULATIONS! I think this post more than any other post on the Hive that I’ve read ever, has made me feel so joyous for someone else! What a blessing! Keep us updated!!!! ![]()
That is so exciting, looking at your wedding pictures, I had no idea, you were so gorgeous and I am in love of the shot of you and your husband with his hand on your belly. That is seriously the most beautiful wedding photo I have ever seen! ![]()
Oh my goodness! Congratulations! Kudos to you for keeping it all a secret for so long! You look gorgeous and SO RADIANT in all your pics!! ![]()
Congratulations! And seriously, you did not look pregnant at all!

@ Everyone with the birth control question: I use NuvaRing. It’s not as effective as the Pill. I wasn’t taking any medications that would have interfered. With NuvaRing you insert it for 3 weeks, take it out for a week to have your period and then get a new one from the pharmacist. I think what *might* have happened was I didn’t put it back in quick enough. My period was unusually long that month so i kept it out an extra few days. Maybe that screwed up the cycle…who knows? I wish I had a better answer! Ive been on NuvaRing for 3 years and never had a scare, even when I skipped a month due to lapse in insurance. Sorry if I scared anyone!
Dumpling-CONGRATS! I am sooo happy for you both. And there is no way you can tell you were “with child” in your wedding pics. You are a gorgeous pregnant lady!
@Mrs. Dumpling: I use nuvaring as well and I believe it IS as effective as the pill… and (wow TMI here), even if I’m still on my period when youre supposed to put your new one in, I still put it in.

@Mrs. Penguin: Hmm, my info is probably 3 years old. That’s what they told me when i first started on it. It might have been even longer than that! My period only lasts a couple of days and that time it was still going after a week so…i dunno. I actually never even thought to ask my doctor. I just figured I either screwed something up or I was the 1% who got pregnant. I’ll ask him in 2 weeks when I have my next appointment. I mean, sometimes it just happens that way, i guess.

Also, two of my girlfriends who used NuvaRing also got pregnant. But that was a while ago and they might have changed their formula or something since then.
@Mrs. Dumpling: Holy crap! 3 people you know (including you)… wow! I’ve been on it for less time than you (2 years), so perhaps things have changed (dang I hope!).

I think it’s supposed to be 99% effective (same as pill)
Thanks for awnsering the BC question.
I hope you are feeling all the love from the hive today! ![]()
We are all so excited and happy for you and yes….you are the CUTEST prego girl ever!
Like I said….feeling the love today? haha
I hope so!
I hope having to keep your secret was worth it by the huge response your post has received today. Everyone is sending you wonderful thoughts and I think YOUR good news made a lot of OUR days!
I know it did mine. I love happy news like this

Congratulations Mama!! You looked absolutely beautiful on your wedding day and the picture of your husband touching your belly is the CUTEST!!! All the best!
@rosychicklet - quite a rude thing to post ‘your pooch’ - I’d be interested to see what your belly looked like on your wedding day. I agree with some of the other statements, Mrs. Dumpling preggers is about the same as some other women not pregant!
And Mrs. Dumpling - I hope you get that last picture blown up and framed - so sweet, it literally brought tears to my eyes. You guys are gonna have one hot baby dumpling!!

Mrs. Avo and I were talking about how adorable you are and I said I don’t want to get pregnant till I’m as slim and as adorable as you are! I’m so excited for the two of you and your baby dumpling, the last photo had me welling up with happy tears! ![]()
Oh wow! Congratulations, Dumplings! Your bump is so cute! (I love preggy bumps).

@Miss D’orsay: Agreed! Time for some pre-pregnancy dieting for me!
I just love you to pieces, but I think you know that. I hope hope hope to meet little Baby Dumling sometime soon! *crosses fingers*
YAY! Congrats!!!!
I’m not sure where else to post this, but I’ve heard recent news that the Nuvaring can cause blood clots? Not the happiest place to post this, but woman to women, it feels important to share!

YAY! Congrats!!!!

I’m not sure how accurate it is, but it’s worth asking the doc about!

@Miss D’orsay: I was totally thinking the same thing!! LOL!
Congratulations Mrs. Dumpling!! That is going to be one seriously gorgeous child!
@Mrs. Dumpling: & @Mrs. Penguin: I’ve also had a few (2) friends become pregnant while on ‘the ring’. Its a very scary thing for me (not-baby-ready-at-all) to think about!!
Congratulations from a former bride who experienced this exact same thing!!! Only difference for me was that we had to move our wedding date up two months so I wouldn’t be almost ready to deliver when I was walking down the aisle and I still looked very pregnant at 6 months and even after having to get a new dress to accommodate my expanding girth. And as blessings come in strange disguises, I was lucky enough to have it all very well documented (for network television at that) as the producers of Whose Wedding is it anyway recruited my husband and I because they got a real kick out of our story. Our little girl, Amelia, is almost a full year old now and though it made for a lot of challenges with wedding planning changes, I seriously love how she was right there with me through our wedding. Congratulations and welcome to something even more exciting than wedding planning - BABY planning and joining the ranks of motherhood!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!
To chime in about birth control, another factor that can reduce effectiveness is if you get sick, even if it is just the flu, a fever, or a cold, because your body chemistry changes. As a reproductive ecologist, I felt it necessary to constantly update anyone I was dating on ANY possible changes to my health (which I admit, did get annoying). You don’t have to be that diligent, just aware of any illness that lasts for over a day.
Oh my goodness, that picture on the dance floor is precious! Baby Dumpling will love it when he/she grows up.
It finally clicked… THATS what you meant when you said the photog did touchups to make you look thin! I was like “WHAAT? She’s already thin!!” haha

This is so awesome! Just curious, with your ceremony, did they still let you have full mass? It sounds as if the priests were very happy for you, so hopefully they just went on with the service as planned!

Miss Dumpling! I’ve been married over a month and came back for your recap — and found this! It makes me heart you even more!
I was also preggers on my wedding day — though we found out in December — and were married in May. We decided to go forward with the wedding too — a triply-sweet celebration!
Congrats!!! I’m so happy for you, and so happy to see another bride flaunt the blessing of a baby!
WHOO-HOO. I love the shot of your DH touching your belly - love…
ABOUT NUVARING! AND THE PILL. It is SO important to put the ring back in on time whether or not your period is still going. it is the same as the pill- you need to start a new pack after your sugar pills, even if you are still bleeding. the first days are the most important in preventing pregnancy!
I prescribe birth control and you would not believe how many patients I see who make this mistake.
Always restart birthcontrol after a break on time, no matter what.

About Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
