Notice anything different or off about this picture? No? How about this one?

Hee hee. No, Dumpling didn’t eat too much wedding cake at the wedding. I’m pregnant.
Shocked? So were we! You have no idea! I’ll tell you the story below, but go on ahead and look at some belly pics first. The two on top were taken in Hawaii about 3 weeks ago on our honeymoon… which I totally plan to blog about soon!
Outside of our hotel…

At a beach-side restaurant in Waikiki, where we had the most expensive meal we have ever eaten… I was sooo happy to be able to pig out.

Belly shot at 20 weeks… (I am now 24 weeks along… story coming below!)

Alrighty then. So about 2.5 months before the wedding, I started feeling a little bit funny in the mornings and unusually sleepy in the middle of the day. I blamed it on nerves, since I was about to get married. “It’s the jitters and anxiety of too many projects!” I would tell myself. One morning in particular (and sorry if this is graphic), as I stepped out of the shower and wrapped the towel around myself, I noticed that my boobs were a little bigger and that they were slightly sore. ‘Eh, this is weird,’ I thought. I didn’t suspect I was pregnant; I actually thought I was just being a big baby. I started experiencing more and more symptoms of being pregnant… metal taste in my mouth (yep, that really does happen), aversion to smells, etc… and decided maybe I should take a test. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to actually be positive. After all, Mr. Dumpling and I had been together for nearly 7 years and had never had any sort of “scare”. We were careful and I was on birth control.
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
The test said to wait 2-3 minutes to get a result, but after about 10 seconds it gave me 2 pink lines. Mr. Dumpling didn’t believe me, and thought I was playing a joke on him. Luckily, the box came with two tests, so I peed on the other one and let him watch it quickly register a positive result. We still have those tests… isn’t that gross?
Okay, so… I’m pregnant. We have 2.5 months before our wedding, the invitations have already been sent out, the dress has already been altered, and we’ve already spent a gazillion dollars on an all-night open bar for alcohol I wouldn’t even get to taste. NICE! Don’t get me wrong—we were super excited and totally geeking out; it’s just that the reality was really starting to set in. Wanna know what I was most worried about? Ha—mostly I was concerned about my awesome dream dress not fitting me. It was a fitted mermaid style gown, and I was going to be sporting a bump. Don’t judge me!! I was being a crazy pregnant woman!
I had already scheduled an appointment with my GYN for my annual exam for the next week, so I figured I would let them know at that time that I was pregnant… knock out two doctors visits at the same time. When we got there and started talking to the doctor about the dates of my last cycle and what not, he gave us a September due date. Yay! I wouldn’t be too far along at the wedding, and my dress would fit! (Yes, I know, that’s really selfish and superficial. Sorry.)
HAHA again. As we were leaving, the doctor said, “Oh, how about we do an ultrasound before you leave, since the room is available.” We did one, and neither one of us could make heads or tails of what was on the screen. However, after measuring the baby, they upped our due date by 4 weeks! OH NOES!
I let my bratty selfish side take control for the next day or so and worried about the dress. Then, I realized how ridiculous I was being, and felt terrible. We were so lucky to be able to get pregnant so easily, and at that moment I stopped worrying about myself and started thinking only about our baby.
I’ll spare you the details about my morning (all day) sickness and low blood sugar fainting spell at Banana Republic, and fast-forward.
We told our families, and they were all thrilled for us! By the time the wedding rolled around, everyone knew. I had lost about 5 pounds early in my pregnancy because of all the up-chucking I was doing, but I am happy to report that on our wedding day I felt shiny, healthy, and energetic.
Remember this picture? I told you during one of my recaps that I was saying, “It fits!” You probably didn’t know what that meant then, did ya?!

Not only did it fit, I had a bigger rack to fill it out! Score!!
Here are some pictures so you can see that I was showing just a tiny bit on the big day. I’m a thin girl, so of course, I thought it was completely obvious that I was with child.

And now my favorite picture of the night:

That’s Mr. Dumpling with his hand on my belly after I felt our baby move for the first time. I was 18 weeks at that point, and was starting to feel little baby flutters! I’m so glad The Cohens caught that on film!
I really REALLY wanted to tell all of you ladies a LONG time ago, but I felt that it would take away from the wedding planning. It was hard, believe me… I am no good at keeping secrets! The hardest part was telling our church the big news. If you remember, we’re Catholic, and we were sure it was going to be an issue. Surprisingly, our priest and deacon were both very supportive and excited for us. We had our wedding date set with the church for a year, and we both regularly attend Mass and were already going through marriage prep, so maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe not, though.
Regardless, this baby was conceived out of love and will have two loving, supportive parents who will raise it to be a strong and happy individual. We feel so blessed to be having this child, and we pray and thank our God every day that the baby and I are both healthy.
So there—now you know our big secret. The Dumplings are going to be parents. We do know the sex of the baby, and we have a name picked out… but for now, we are going to keep that a secret. Sorry! I’ll update you in about 3.5 months.
XOXO,
Mama Dumpling
