The Best Wedding Present Ever!

May 8th, 2009 @ 10:50 am by Mrs. Joey

What’s the best wedding present ever? No, it isn’t a KitchenAid mixer. And no, it isn’t a lifetime supply of chocolate (but that would be great). The best wedding present ever is someone moving for us. What? I know. So if you remember, the Joeys are building a house right now. Actually the Joeys are waiting for their building permit (any day now!!). If the weather holds up and everything goes according to schedule, The house will be inhabitable by the time we get back from our honeymoon (if not before).

I was really stressed about moving. Mr. Joey goes back to teaching a day or two after we get back from Australia. We won’t have time to move. We thought of using the 4 days between the wedding and the honeymoon to move, but we’ll just be too tired. Plus, we scheduled our trip that way because we wanted extra time with friends and family before they left Seattle. I know the days leading up to the wedding will be stressful and crazy, and won’t leave us much time for socializing.

I told my Mom about my anxiety (and excitement) around moving, and she gave me the best gift ever.

If we pack everything up in the apartment and label boxes, she and my Dad will make sure everything, including the furniture, gets moved to the new house. HOLLA!! We’ll have to unpack, but that’s easy.

This is the best gift ever, and it’s not even on the registry!

Was there a wedding gift you were given that knocked your socks off?

That is awesome!!! Best. Gift. Ever. I hate moving. I’ve lived with my fiance for almost 8 months and still every time I go to my Dads, he finds something that belongs to me. It’s never ending.

A friend of my fiance’s father designs furniture for Crate and Barrel and a few other companies! He’s extremely talented! He’s offered to make us a one of kind custom piece of anything we’d like! So far that’s been the most exciting, hands down!

that is the best gift ever! I would love all of our gifts to be at our new house and our bed to be set up by the time we get back from our honeymoon…but I don’t think that’s gonna happen!

That is an awesome gift! We are house hunting now and although we don’t have any reason why we won’t be able to move, having help would definitely be awesome!

That would be an awesome present….when we finally get a house I’m planning on using that time to purge all the crap I’ve been holding onto so we can start fresh!

That is awesome. And perfectly suited to the idea that wedding gifts help you be a good host to guests in your home together! Love it!!

what knocked my socks off so far has been the brand new stove from my FI’s parents! I came home for lunch one day and our old, VERY OLD stove was in the porch…with a new, shiny one in the kitchen! It was such A GREAT surprise!! FI and I have been getting into cooking so a brand new stove really helps!! :)

That sounds like an amazing gift. I feel that I have been giving my best friend a gift this whole time, and I’m happy to keep them coming. I’ve been helping them do some research to find some Chicago Wedding Bands to play at the reception. It’s actually been a lot of work finding bands that fit their style, but I have a few I found that I think they would love, so the rest is up to them. Basically anything that they need help with I’m happy to assist. I’ve been the bride-to-be’s best friend for about 15 years and there’s probably nothing I would say no to. If they were moving, I’d offer to get a group together to do it for them but they’re staying in the same spot. I have a few more months to find a gift so I’m not stressing. =)
