Mrs. Yorkie's Picture
Mrs. Yorkie, Miami Age and Occupation: 30, Graduate Admissions Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Asst. Professor Engagement Date: July 3, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2009 Venue: Red Fish Grill About Me: I’m an East Coast girl with a crafty streak who loves traveling, photography and being outdoors (barefoot, if possible). When I do have to wear shoes, I prefer Mizunos, and have worn out a few pairs running marathons. I have a thing for chai, crossword puzzles, Apples to Apples, The Office and my real-life Yorkie, Bella. My West Coast transplant, Mr. Yorkie, roots for the Buckeyes, loves baseball, and climbs mountains for fun. We’re planning a fun little seaside wedding filled with handmade details and vintage charm. I can hardly wait!
About Mrs. Yorkie

Greetings from sunny South Florida!

It’s with a beaming smile (and wagging tail!) that I introduce myself to you as Miss Yorkie! (Wow, that sounds different!) I have to admit, when I first received The email, I was in total disbelief. Could it be? Me… a Bee?!T hat’s what it says! Well, as soon as the reality set in, it’s like a switch went off and I could barely sit still! Yeah, I’m quite certain I did the human version of the “I’m-so-excited-I-could-pee-a-little” dance that my dog, Bella, greets me with every time I walk in the door. (Good thing there was no one in my office to witness the joyous jig!)

With a little more than five weeks until I scamper down the aisle, I’m excited, honored and blessed to be able to share the last leg of my journey with you. Since I don’t have too long before becoming Mrs. Yorkie, I’d better get down to business and tell you a little bit about myself!

Unlike a real Yorkie, my pedigree isn’t exactly “pure bred”. Nope, I’m a curious combination of Cuban, Scottish, and Irish, with a dash of German thrown in for good measure. (In other words, I’m a mutt… and a proud one at that!) Also unlike a Yorkie, or at least the one in my icon, I’m not quite prissy or high maintenance. Nope, my daily beauty regimen consists of mascara, blush and Carmex. Oh, and I can’t forget the ponytail! My lifestyle is a little too active (and I’m a lot too lazy) to spend time gussying myself up every day. Or at least, that’s my excuse! (I know I should really try… and I will, without too much whimpering. I promise!)

Anyway, it’s that active lifestyle that actually brought me and Mr. Yorkie together. While we’ve worked down the hall from each other for the past five years at the BEST university in the country (my completely biased opinion, of course!), we barely exchanged more than an occasional “hello” until I decided to attempt the impossible and run a marathon. You see, Mr. Yorkie belonged to the same training program that I signed up for, and it didn’t take much more for our relationship to “hit the ground running”. Yup, it was when I was drenched in sweat and without a stitch of makeup that the love bug – er, flea – bit us. :)

We share much more in common than just marathons, of course. We both love baseball (I’m a loyal Twinkie and he’s life-long Giants fan), dislike avocados (ick!), and we’re major genealogy geeks (I’m talking archive-searching, cemetery-exploring kind of passion here!). Our families mean so very much to us, as do the histories that they each have. It’s with that in mind that we came up with the idea of a “family tree” theme for our kid-friendly, fun-loving little seaside wedding. We plan to celebrate the merging of two families, while honoring the generations and marriages that have preceded ours.

I really can’t wait to share all of the details and DIY projects that we have planned, and hope to make new friends along the way. So with Bella at my feet, Mr. Yorkie by my side, and my laptop, well, in my lap… I say “Hello Hive! Let’s do this thing!”

With a woof and a smile,
Miss Yorkie  ^._.^

P.S. - In case you’re wondering, Bella is a Yorkie! She’s oh-so-sweet, but like me, she’s anything but a prissy little lap dog!
