Table Numbers

May 9th, 2009 @ 6:20 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

Ah, table numbers. Such a boring topic, right? Yeah, I know. I thought I’d escaped table numbers (and seating charts) by serving appetizers at the reception. But then we booked our rehearsal dinner, and as of right now, we’re planning a formal, sit-down dinner. So, I had to create table numbers out of something… and on the cheap, too.

I originally planned on using our engagement pictures, but they weren’t turning out the way I wanted them to. I had already bought frames:

(source)

that I intend to use at both the rehearsal dinner for table numbers and at the reception (with signs). So, I kinda had to stick with those. And I had all this great paper that I used in both the rehearsal dinner invites (later) and on our invitations. I got this image in my head (while standing in line at the post office) of antique-style numbers on paper inside the frames, and I just had to figure out how to make it work.

I wanted something quick, easy and cheap. Usually, quick, easy and cheap are mutually exclusive. By that, I mean you can have quick and easy, but not cheap, or vice versa. Anyway, my sister and I hunted around town for something that would work. I considered printing the numbers on cardstock and cutting them out, looked at house numbers at Lowe’s, and browsed the stamp and sticker aisles at every craft store I went into.

Then, I was at Hobby Lobby getting flowers for my fake bouquet, and I walked by the wood signs and numbers. They were perfect. A little old fashioned, just the right size, and el cheapo. Done.

I got them home, and Mini and I painted them with some “antique white” acrylic paint I had from some other project.

This was a great project for her to help with. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

When Mini was done painting, I used Mod Podge left over from the bouquet charm project to finish them and then I also used to it hold them on to the paper. Why, oh why, did it take me 25 years to discover Mod Podge?!

They aren’t that impressive laying on the table. Blah.

7

There are three different patterns on the paper, so I just took a picture of one on each for y’all to see.

I’m not sure why this one came out fuzzy… eh, y’all get the idea.

I love them! So easy!

Those look great! Good plan. But what happened about your e-pics? I hope, if you’re unhappy with them, that you have a different plan or backup for your wedding pics?

Those are super cute and good painting by Mini. Where did you get the paper? I really like it!

Do you call her Mini to her face? We call our daughter Little instead of Lillie sometimes. :) Or my husband calls her Little Kate instead of Lillie Kate…he is not being sweet. It’s usually when she gets a ‘tude.

Those are so cute! I have actually never been to a wedding with table numbers/escort cards. I’m not sure if it’s where I’m from or the formality of the weddings that I go to. I think Weddingbee is the first place I’d ever heard of seating charts, etc. Am I the only one like this? I think they are so cute and add a little extra detail to the tables. I wish I could incorporate this idea into my wedding, but it’s simply not done here.

Oh I love the paper backgrounds. Our tables are going to be more simple, but this would be a great way to get a fun punch of color incorporated!
