Mr. Joey and I don’t have any pets. I really want a dog, but we can’t have them in the apartment. Mr. Joey is lobbying for a Vietnamese Potbelly pig. He says if they are good enough for Clooney (as in George), then they are good enough for us. Even though we don’t have a dog together, I do have a dog — Mieko. He’s been part of the family for 13 years. He’s half shar pei and half lab. Think of a dog that looks like a lab but is the size of a shar pei — that’s him.
When we picked out venues for the reception and ceremony, we didn’t really consider having him be our ring dog. He hates crowds. It turns out that both our venues don’t allow animals inside. It’s no big deal since he wasn’t taking part in the actual big day. The rehearsal dinner was another story. When we visited the house where the dinner is going to take place, I thought to myself, ’Hey, Mieko can come too.’ The group will be small, and he’d know most of the people there. I don’t have to worry about him jumping into the lake or the pool, because he hates water. He’d be happy just smelling all the new smells and rolling around on the pretty grass. Perfect.

Well, this happy evening isn’t going to happen as planned. Our beloved dog has passed away this week. It was hard. It was sad. It was kind of sudden, but it was time. I really wish he could have been part of all the excitement of the wedding, but I’m really glad he’s not suffering anymore. When he passed, his liver was only working at 13% of its functionality.
I don’t have a question for this post, just a request. For all of you who are lucky enough to have pets in your life, give them an extra rub, scratch or hug tonight.

Aw, I’m so sorry for your loss. I will definitely give my puppy an extra hug tonight in Mieko’s honor.
Oh, Joey…Hugs. I my dog like that too!! When our family dog passed away 10 years ago, I cried for two days straight. Sad, but true.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t know what I would do without my wonderful puppy. I recently watched Marley and Me and bawled my eyes out the ENTIRE time!

So sorry for your loss. My family dog just passed away a couple weeks ago, too….he was 12 but it definitely came as a shock. We got him as a pup, and I think a little piece of my heart will always be broken for Maverick. He was the best dog…. and I completely feel for you. My BIL-to-be is putting together a slideshow for our wedding, and I made sure to give him tons of pics of Mav!

Oh my gosh, this one made me tear up. I have a harley-monster (not sure the breed but we think dalmatian mixed with something boxy). We love her to pieces, and can’t imagine what life will be without her. I promise to give her extra treats and lots of love today. So so sorry for your loss.
I’m so very sorry. I will give my cat an extra hug tonight. I still miss the dog I grew up with and he died in 1997.

I was looking at the picture before I read the post, and noticed how his whiskers were turning white, and thinking that he must be getting old, just like my dog. My mutt is turning 9, so he’s getting up there, and I dont want to pretend that I know what you’re going through, so just *hugs*

My fiance and Ilost our 2 yr old pug suddenly this past February. We are thinking good thoughts for you and your family. It’s tough.

I’m sorry to hear that….I can only imagine what you are going through. The thought of the day I will need to put my dog down makes me cry everytime and she has quite a few years ahead of her (I hope!).

We’ve had our first dog for only a year now and I can’t imagine life without him now!

Oh Miss Joey, I feel your pain. FI and I had just gotten our first puppy together about a month ago, and he was living at my mom’s house until we moved back to the country about a month from now. On Saturday my brother found his puppy (our puppy’s litter mate and sister) and ours in pretty bad shape. They came down with distemper and it hit really fast with nothing we could do for them but put them down. So I wish I could love on mine for you, but alas, he’s gone too…
Joey- I am so sorry to hear about your doggie. My favorite cat died last week due to liver failure as well, it’s not a fun thing

Your post resonates with me! We love our Chocolate labrador! We are are all super lucky in that our hotel in Napa & our wedding venue allows dogs! So our dog with be in the middle of all the family bustling and rushing. =o)
However, my 18 year old Himalyan… I am surprised is she still with us. Although she won’t be there. She will be thought of fondly.
Pets bring a special tenderness to the family dynamic. I don’t think a moment in our married life will go by without an animal presence!

I am so terribly sorry for your loss and your pain. Perhaps you can make a little cameo of Mieko and tie it with a ribbon to your bouquet so that he will be with you in spirit during your ceremony.

I’ve gone through the loss of a beloved dog, and besides losing my grandmother, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through.
Mieko is in a better place, and Catch is sending good thoughts!
Omg, you just made me tear up at work! I am so sorry for your loss of your dog and I hope you feel better soon. My dog is half beagle, half lab and looks kinda like Mieko. His name is Meatball and he says he loves you and Mieko!
I’m so so sorry for your loss, Miss Joey. My 14 year old cat is rather sick at the moment, so this post hit very close to home for me. We’ve been giving her extra love lately, but we’ll be sure to give her and our other furkids *extra* extra love tonight.

Ooh, I know how hard this is. I had my dog for 17 years, and she had to be put down shortly after I left for college. It’s nice to know they’re not suffering, but it’s still rough!

I’m so sorry for your loss Miss J, I know what it feels like to lose a pet/part of the family - It’s been years since I lost my sweet angel and I miss him whenever I see any dog that looks like him or acts like him.
So sorry to hear about your loss. Pets really can be a part of your family.
Miss Joey, I am so sorry about Mieko. I know what it’s like to lose a dog, I lost my dog 3 year ago when he was 16. It was also sudden, kidney failure. At least you can take comfort in the fact that he had a great life and was loved by you and your family and he’s in a better place. Brutus will be getting extra smooches tonight in Mieko’s name.
So sorry to hear about this… Our beloved St. Bernard, Dakota, left us Easter Monday, one of the toughest decisions to make ever. I still get weepy when I get home and he’s not here… a heart breaker for sure. When the vet says “you have made the right choice…” it’s only a small comfort. Very small.
I’m sorry. I had to do this with my 15 year old black Lab a couple years ago. It hurts, but you made the right decision.

Oh Miss Joey, I am so sorry for your loss. I became a doggie mama a year ago and I am so in love with my little guy. He is definitely part of my family. I just scooped him up and put him in my lap!!
*hugs* I’m so sorry I have two puppies that live with my parents. Princess, our lab, is 13 and Buffy is 10. I miss them and worry about them when I’m away Why can’t doggies live longer, it’s not fair.
So sorry for your loss I have never been able to have a pet of my own, but my fiance’s bunny died unexpectedly just a few weeks ago. She was the sweetest, cutest little animal and I’m so sad I never got to be her mommy.
