My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! About Mrs. Bruschetta

Secrets

May 11th, 2009 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

Sure, I have my share of wedding-related secrets. Mr. Bruschetta’s made it clear I should conceal every aspect of my wedding day look from him, and I’m happy to comply. Daddy Bruschetta and I will be the only two, prior to the father-daughter dance, who know the song to which we’ll spin around the dance floor. And I’m definitely planning a few surprises for the Bruschetta ’maids and bridal attendants.

So I suppose it’s only fair to expect some secrecy directed my way. See, recently, I haven’t been able to shake the feeling that my gals — and even my mister — have been working to keep something from me. I’m intrigued. I’m nosy. I’m wondering when they’re going to let the cat out of the bag.

Secrets : wedding bridal shower Catin

And I’m speculating exactly what they’ve got in the works.

I’ve been replaying conversations in my head, looking for clues. Yes, I did tell the girls that Mr. Bruschetta and I wanted a co-ed shower; no, I didn’t give too many specifics about bachelorette party preferences. I’m also paying attention to telling behaviors, like the night Mr. Bruschetta was muttering, obviously irritated at his computer, but repeatedly saying he couldn’t let me know what issue he was having with it.

I don’t want to be presumptuous by assuming there even is anything being planned in my honor. But until I know definitively, I’m also fighting off bouts of bridal guilt. Because I know firsthand how challenging it can be to organize a surprise shower, having hosted Sister Bruschetta’s the summer before her autumn wedding. At the time, Mama Bruschetta and I struggled to find the time to discuss the soiree, and Sister Bruschetta seemed to pop up at the most inconvenient times. (Although hilarious in retrospect, this really did get to be extremely frustrating; when the phone would ring, we’d check the caller I.D., see it was Sister Bruschetta, and actually moan aloud.) And you know what they say about karma. Sister Bruschetta walked into her bridal shower wearing a bathing suit under her shorts and tank top, so clearly expecting an afternoon in the hot tub with friends.* Will I be similarly hoodwinked?

Is anyone else in the same position as me, theorizing that your nearests and dearests are planning surprise pre-wedding festivities?

*Don’t worry, though, we’d planned ahead and had a cute new dress at the ready for her to change into!

That’s awesome you guys had an outfit for her to change into. I’m very hard to surprise, I pick up on clues easily!, but I’m trying to stay oblivious for my brides. I know their working hard and I don’t want to ruin it!

This has been a problem for me. My FH keeps telling me there’s a surprise during our wedding and to “just trust him” (I HATE surprises). Unlike you though I hvae no hints whatsoever and it’s been KILLING me! Good luck figuring them out!

That’s funny that your sister showed up in her bathing suit and all, but really sweet that you guys had a nice outfit ready for her :) My grandmother asked my aunt to help her paint the house to get her to come over for her surprise shower, and she showed up in paint-spattered clothes, no makeup, baseball cap - she definitely bought it, and there was no cute outfit for her to change into!

Just enjoy the suspense. I’m sure whatever it is they plan, it will be perfect. As for your mister, be glad he can keep a secret! Last year I got my Christmas present at Thanksgiving because he was so excited…

@Miss Marine: Ah, the “be prepared” approach. You weren’t once a Girl Scout, were you? ;-)

@pvaulter718: Awwww, that’s cute though. Mr. Bruschetta used to give me such a tough time when I had wedding-related surprises, but he won’t have any of MY complaining about his secrecy! :-(

I’m really terrible at allowing myself to be surprised, my MOH said it’s going to be a surprise - but I’m terrible at allowing myself to be surprised!

ps. That picture is adorable, between your post and the Dog Whisperer I’m really missing our pets in the US!

I was the same way. I totally figured it out and showed up wearing the dress I bought for my bridal shower. They wanted to kill me for it but I did have the super amazing surprise of my two aunts who flew in from Chicago and North Carolina. so, they still got me there. I have to say I miss the anticipation of it but they’re getting started on my bachelorette… So thoughtful to have the dress on hand.

I am also terrible at letting myself be surprised - HELLO, did your remember my proposal story? So, I cannot begin to tell you to let yourself be surprised haha.
I think that was really sweet of you to have a back-up dress for Sister Bruschetta, I’m sure they’ll do something similar for you :)

Lol about your sister in the bathing suit and how cute of you to have a dress for her! I guess she was very surprised! My mom and I have already been talking about a bridal shower and who to invite and my MOH asked me for our guest list! And I already told my MOH I dont want any crazy bach parties! Maybe a trip to the spa or something! But our bridal party is her and my two soon to be stepdaughters so there really wont be any crazy parties! I actually would like to be surprised with something…selfish me! But I kinda already knew I was getting some kind of shower since my older sister had one a few yrs ago! Is it selfish to want a shower!! LOL! Maybe!
